Two-Face to get his first ever series in December

Gotham's most famous criminal lawyer finally gets a title all his own. Starting December 4th, writer Christian Ward (Batman: City of Madness) and artist Fábio Veras are coming together to bring us a limited series exploring the intricacies of Harvey Dent's split psyche. Created as part of DC's "All In" initiative, the story will see Harvey's noble side defending the rights of the very same criminals he was once part of, including Victor Zsasz. All the while, his evil side fights for total control of their shared mind.

After falling in love with writing the beautiful, complicate, Harvey in Batman: City of Madness, I couldn't be more excited to be, or prouder, to be writing Two-Face's very first solo series! Two-Face is without any hesitation not just my favourite Batman villain but my favourite character in all of Gotham, and I'm thrilled to be taking him, together with superstar artist in the making Fábio Veras and the legends that are colourist Ivan Plascencia and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, to some wild places you might not be expecting. The first of which takes Harvey Dent back to the courtroom.
In our series, Harvey is trying to use his criminology skills to resolve the conflicts of Gotham’s weird and dangerous criminal underground…all the while he has his eye on a return to civilized society and perhaps reconciling with his old friend, Bruce Wayne, so all rise, court is in session, Harvey has tossed his coin and judgment is about to land

I am so inexpressibly happy about this. I was afraid that Harvey would be regressed to a villain after the current run of Detective Comics. I couldn't be happier to see that Ward is writing this new series. I absolutely loved City of Madness. I felt that Ward understood Harvey Dent better than most writers and was very sympathetic to him. I have a deep appreciation for writers who bring out Harvey's more heroic qualities and attend to his background in law enforcement and his desire for justice. Perhaps they'll let him leave behind the Two-Face persona and become The Judge...

I'm also eager to see what Ward has planned for the not so sympathetic Victor Zsasz. He's a villain I know from only a few stories but I've felt there was more to tell about him.

They did this to make me look dumb for declaring All In a failure last Saturday.

I thought City of Madness could be getting a sequel since Ward will be included as the CoM creator in the NYCC Batman panel. I did not expect an in-continuity Two-Face solo, but I'll take that, and gladly. I've been pleading for something like this for years.

I'm split on how I feel about redemption arcs, but Harvey perennially tops the lists of DC characters who deserve/need one. And like Madeleine pointed out, The Judge is a thing.

(But where is my Red Hood solo?!)

(Also, not to be mean, but it's getting too funny that practically every major Batman villain is more likely to get a series than Aquaman.)

Because there have been specials and minis focused on him.

It's a "limited series", which the press release compares to Tom King's The Penguin. You're right that whether or not it counts as Two-Face's "first series" is a matter of semantics, but DC considers this different than a one or two shot.

I think the difference is that in Ward's comic Harvey will be the undisputed main character in an in continuity story that is not an origin story and does not split the lead with a Bat.
Harvey shared the lead with Bruce in Crime and Punishment and Two-Face: Year One as he does in all versions of his origin except the TV series Gotham Knights, Paul Jenkins' Two-Face: Jekyll & Hyde, One Bad Day: Two-Face #1, and so on. If you want to get really technical he also co-lead Task Force Z with Jason so you could say he's had a starring role in an in continuity maxi before. This comic by Ward feels different to me.

What a great surprise! I love this team and character.
The writer explained that it a planned 12-issue maxiserie... but it depends on the demand.
I think that bat-villains are great characters for mini or ongoing series. Some examples: Catwoman (when it first began), Poison Ivy (with GWW), Harley Quinn (with some writers), Penguin, Two-Face...
Others villains that need an ongonig/mini are Lex Luthor and The Rogues.

I've been waiting for something like this. It's a great opportunity to move Harvey Dent forward while digging into his past and what makes him tick.

Two of those variants are stunning. But lord, why would they curse the very first issue with that boring, static, retrograde, TAS-inspired main cover? It's the most generic Two-Face cover imaginable. Nothing about it suggests a breakthrough, or modernization, or anything about the story, when that's what's needed.

I'm not jazzed about this tbh. Tired of Villains getting thier own books while they keep pecking the heroes and deconstructing them into the ground....maybe ok for a miniseries but I see a trend happening. Is it because these writers are finding actually supporting the actual heroes to be less gratifying?

This IS a limited series.
I find most of DC's heroes horribly boring. If it weren't for the villains and anti-heroes, I'd have almost no reason to read the comics. For once, DC sees a real market for characters who are usually stuck having their narratives dominated by "the actual heroes" (blech) and has decided to cater to that actual market instead of producing reams of stories about lame, redundant good guys for hypothetical markets.
The vast majority of DC books are about these boring-ass heroes. Just read those. Let the rest of us have our books.
