Warner Bros. Discovery is planning to crackdown on Max password sharing before the end of 2024, and a broader rollout in 2025.

During its earning call on Wednesday, Warner Bros. Discovery once again shared that it is ironing out its plans for a crackdown on password sharing to its Max streaming service. The company mentioned it was planning such a move back in March, but things have been quiet ever since.

The reiteration of this announcement is not that surprising as Netflix has seen a significant increase in subscriptions following its crackdown on password sharing. That service said it had upwards of 100 million accounts sharing passwords before the crackdown, a number that surpasses Max's total subscriber base.

Warner Bros. Discovery disappointed investors with its earnings this quarter, so it's not surprising that it wants to show a path to getting revenue back on track.

Each streaming service seems to be taking a different approach to how it is cracking down on sharing, how Max plans to implement it remains to be seen. The Netflix method has been based on your account being tied to a 'home' IP address with options to say you are traveling to free the service's use temporarily at another location.
