Artist and writer Rafael Grampá finally releases new information about his harrowing Batman adaptation, Gargoyle of Gotham. If readers have a hard time remembering this Black Label book, it is because the last issue came out December of last year! We should know, I reviewed it. At long last, Grampá reassures fans at #SDCC24 of its return with a brand new visualization by Gorillaz co-creator Jaime Hewlett.

A Lil' Different

Premiering during San Diego Comic-Con's DC Comic's Gotham Panel, Vsions Studios brings Grampá's world to life with Jamie Hewlett's distinct style. Notably, the team fully visualizes Hewlett's Gorillaz-like variant cover. Also, the teaser spookily animates the series' brand new antagonist "Lil Joker" featured on the main cover. Lil Joker noticeably shares similar stylization with Grampá's other grotesque rogues like Crytoon or Killer Moth. Additionally, the clip utilizes a haunting original score by the Emmy award winning team at DAHOUSE Audio. All of these elements blend together to create a punk atmosphere of decay and degradation.

This isn't DC or Grampá's first animated trailer. In fact, Gargoyle of Gotham's original announcement trailer once featured a 3D animated sizzler among other creative teases. Initially, DC reported Gargoyle of Gotham's release date to land around May 28th of 2024. Yet, the date came and went without further updates. Afterwards, the release has repeatedly faced ongoing delays, currently speculating availability September 25th or some time in November. Sadly, despite the brand new visualization, the trailer only teases the third issue is simply "coming soon."
