HBO has announced that The Penguin will no longer be exclusive to MAX, but will instead be shown both on the streaming service and the linear HBO channel.

Warner Bros. Discovery announced in June that Lanterns, Welcome to Derry, and Harry Potter would become HBO originals while also streaming on Max. This left The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy as question marks as they were still labeled as MAX originals. That confusion is now at an end as both series will be moving over to HBO.

Oscar-nominee Colin Farrell reprises his role as Oz Cobb, the titular Penguin and a scene-stealing favorite from Matt Reeves’ The Batman. With the second teaser that was released, we got a lot more hints at the plot in this trailer and it's clear that Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone and Clancy Brown’s Salvatore Maroni will play significant roles in the story. The cast will will include Rhenzy Feliz (Victor Aguilar), Michael Kelly (Johnny Viti), Shohreh Aghdashloo (Nadia Maroni), Deirdre O’Connell (Francis Cobb), James Madio (Milos Grapa), Scott Cohen (Luca Falcone), Michael Zegen (Alberto Falcone), Carmen Ejogo (Eve Karlo), and Theo Rossi (Dr. Julian Rush)

Craig Zobel (The Mare of Easttown) signed on to direct the first two episodes of The Penguin. He will also be serving as an executive producer on the project.

The Penguin project has been discussed for some time and was ordered straight to series shortly after the premiere of The Batman in March 2021.

The Penguin is currently set to debut in Sept. 2024.
