Despite some rumors in recent weeks, Warner Bros. Discovery is saying Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will keep its Dec. release date.
As the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes continue, studios are having to start having discussions about any films remaining on their release schedules for 2023. It looks as though Warner Bros. Discovery is the first of the major studios to blink when it comes to release dates changing due to the strikes. While Sony Pictures had already changed some dates, waiting for the major studios was a sure sign that things won't be settled in the near future.
On Thursday, the studio announced that Dune: Part 2 will now be moving from Nov. 3, 2023 to March 15, 2024. This date was previously occupied by Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, and that film will now move back to April 12, 2024. The animated Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim has vacated that spot and will now be released on Dec. 13, 2024.
In all of this news, the studio confirmed that, for now, its films slated for December releases will all be keeping to that schedule. The three films are Wonka (Dec. 15), Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (Dec. 20), and The Color Purple (Dec. 25).
It should be noted that there is still time for those dates to change, and with Wonka being the only one of those three films to release a trailer thus far, that would make it even easier.
For now, keep your calendars marked for Dec. 20 for the return of the King of the Seven Seas.
