Blue Beetle wins its opening weekend at the box office

Blue Beetle has finally made its way to the big screen and won the top spot in its opening weekend.

As the opening weekend of Blue Beetle draws to a close, the box office estimates have rolled in. Domestically the film took in $25.4 million over the three-day weekend. For comparison, The Flash opened to $55.1 million over three days, while Aquaman opened with $67.87 million in the same time frame. The former went on to a domestic total of $108.13 million, while the latter took in $335.06 million.

In the foreign markets, Blue Beetle took in $18 million. This brings the global opening weekend total to $43.4 million.

Using the same comps as before, The Flash took in $160.03 million from the foreign markets over the course of its run for a worldwide total of $268.16 million. Aquaman did very well in the foreign markets and took in $808.69 million for a global total of $1.143 billion.

Blue Beetle is now in wide theatrical release.

  Why are you so personally offended?
  It's good that generic derivative movies like this flop, it might give them a little more motivation to put a little effort into their blockbusters and not just lazily copy plots and themes from other films and just try and sell their movies on "representation"
  Though more likely they will just come to the wrong conclusion that "Superhero movies" or that movies starring latino actors don't bring in money.

I would just say DC for now as WB just got their 1 billion plus from Barbie so they probably are still on a high from that.
But yeah DC is probably in the lowest it's ever been, I expect Aquaman 2 to also be a giant bomb I would just cancel the movie to save further embarrassment 🤷

I don't know about u guys, but when I rewatch VOD Black Adam, Shazam 2, The Flash at home, those films really funny and exciting to watch. People just mad because DCEU going out soon so it's pointless to continue after so many years following. If u lower expectation, don't compare with Marvel, don't judge by box office collection, you find each DC film is pure entertainment for a beautiful day.

  and even without the comparison, these films are just mediocre at best. (I would say, TV movie standard, but I have seen many made for TV/streaming movies that have much better quality and writing)

Interesting to see much they’ll market it. Too much would be silly as they’ve already sunk loads of money into filming and a thousand reshoots, plus the fact that it’s the final movie of a defunct universe. Too little and you’re guaranteeing another flop. What a mess of WBs own making.

      You know how much that would have ballooned the budget? The film was already 200M+, replacing Ezra and reshooting everything would have added 100M-150M+ to it, combined with marketing it would have ended up costing 500M-600M+ with no chance in hell getting that back.

Not that Momoa seemed that enthused by the concept of making this one from what we've been hearing about the sequel

Is anybody surprised? Lowest opening for any DC film. What a great start for the first DCU character. The best plan, if WB are intent on a connected universe, is to cease production on all DC Films including Joker and The Batman 2. Wait for at least 5 years and start COMPLETELY from scratch. Not a “Soft Reboot”, where for some reason you keep Viola Davis, Your Wife, John Cena, when they have all played major parts in the DCEU and interacted with those characters. It honestly isn’t that difficult!

  Oh I feel exactly the same, I can’t wait for both of these films. The issue is they naturally make it more difficult for audiences to care for or want a shared universe. So what is the point of the shared universe? Having 3 universes going on at the same time for one IP is completely absurd.

Why would they delay Joker 2? The first made over a billion, won endless awards including Oscars and was very well received by audiences. Its pretty much a sure bet the sequel will do insanely well especially with the inclusion of Gaga's Harley and lack of any BTS drama that could put people off. The Batman 2 will do well because the first one did and its Batman.
People just want great films not bad or decent ones. Its why Guardians 3 and Spider-Verse done well while Ant Man 3 failed and why Barbie and Oppenheimer have dominated the summer.

That's not saying much since there's really no competition at the box office at the moment. Barbie & Oppenheimer have been out for a month now and have made there money. Demeter bombed and I doubt Strays will make a profit, so there only "competition" in the next two weeks are Gran Turismo & Equalizer 3.

Numbers-wise a flop, but oddly enough, a much better film. Unfortunately, BB's numbers are a product of the DC crap that has come before it. But BB is a good, fun film with solid story and a lot of heart. Loved the cast.

Not terrible, not great, but not terrible. It is certainly more on the cheaper side of things in terms of costs, so it making half its budget back opening weekend is not bad. Not to mention there was no marketing push at all for this movie, so marketing costs are pretty low. Certainly nothing like Black Adam or Flash that had massive budgets and even bigger marketing costs that doomed those movies.

With any luck, it keeps going at a steady pace. Elemental was considered a flop and it slowly became the second best selling animation movie this year, beating out Spider-Man. Blue Beetle really does not have much in terms of competition, so it might get a steady push. Only time will tell.

What is with this site? It's the second time you're referring to a box office "win" for a movie that looks like it's going to be a total flop. The first was The Flash.

As a massive DC fan I just want good movies like The Batman and Joker, because let's face it this shared universe stuff has run its course. If they're going to reboot DC it needs to be with great standalone movies that don't need other movies, or to hype other movies, in order to stand on their own. Otherwise you're just a production line without artistic integrity, which is ironically what Marvel has become as of late.

The Justice League won't sell by name, it requires us to have an attachment and relationship with these characters and the world they inhabit. I don't need the five year plan. I need one good movie at a time plan.

And that should have been Gunn’s plan. All this “ten year plan” stuff is just DC making the same mistake with Gunn that they did with Snyder. They’re putting all their eggs in one basket because they just assume Gunn’s plan is going to succeed. And if and when one of Gunn’s movies fail, they’ll panic and scramble just like they did with Snyder, leading to the mess similar to the one DC is in right now.
