Warner Bros. Discovery is considering shifting release dates for the end of the year including Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
According to a new report from Variety, Warner Bros Discovery is exploring some options of what to do with its remaining films for the years. As the Writer's Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes continue, studios are already turning an eye toward the end of the year and beyond. Should the strike last until the end of 2023, as some analysts are predicting, this would mean actors would be able to promote their movies. It would mean a large gap in 2024 of new films hitting theaters.
Warner Bros. Discovery is apparently analyzing Dune 2, The Color Purple, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom for potential delays into the new year. The trickiest one would be moving Dune 2 as it would also require Legendary Pictures to agree to the decision.
No decisions are final at this time, but some are saying that Labor Day will be a crisis point for the studios. Should the strikes last past that holiday weekend, then all new movies in 2024 would probably be delayed by six months are more, leaving a very desolate summer season for the studios akin to what they saw during the pandemic.
No final decisions have been made at this time, but we will not be the least bit surprised should this happen.
