   So after the dreadful reviews for Indy what are the chances he's dropped?

      I'd believe the movie just gets cancelled before they drop Mangold from it and hire yet another director. They keep doing that, and it's one of the reasons their budgets get so bloated to the point to where the resulting movie doesn't have a chance of turning a profit, and they're already so strapped for cash there's a decent chance Discovery sells WB in the near future. A new director means new writers, a new approach to casting, new production design, art direction, yada yada, while still fulfilling the contracts of the former crew and whatever cast has been signed (if any), to the extent the contracts specify. All of the starts/stops for The Flash are one of the reasons the budget ballooned like it did, because all of the money they'd spent developing the film over the years was rolled into it.

      Mangold is untouchable. He directed LOGAN, one of the greatest comic book movies of all time. His The Wolverine is actually one of my most favorite films ever.

      and who knows how much Disney/Lucasfilm handcuffed him on the movie. Indy seemed an odd choice for Mangold anyway who prefers making gritty violent movies that are grounded and more intimate. He usually doesn't make popcorn flicks.

         Logan is a masterpiece sure but the rest of his work is pretty mixed. Look i like The Wolverine but it suffers from one of the worst 3rd acts in any superhero film and its a pretty meh adaption of one of the best Wolverine stories out there, again i like the film but its not a great film.

            Thank you. People are acting like Mangold is one of the GOATs. Logan is a very good film but also has some serious flaws (some of the exposition is some of the laziest I've ever seen in any "good" CBM) & there's also an aura of self-importance to it that has always irked me.
            Ford V Ferrari was a very good movie too & I really liked 3:10 to Yuma (might be my favorite film of his) but beyond that his movies are mixed. I don't think he was a "bad" choice for Indy 5 necesarilly, but he also wasn't a "sure bet" like ppl were making it out to be. Some of the creative choices (I've read the leaks) are baffling to say the least & the way he responded to criticism on his social media was pathetic & typical of another Hollywood snob with his head too far up his own a$$. Didn't give me any confidence either.

               Yeah i think Mangold is a solid enough director whose made 1 or 2 excellent films, i mean i love Logan and its easily up there for me with The Dark Knight films, the Russo MCU films, Spider-Verse and Joker as my favourite comic book films but Mangold has had misses and he's not a sure fire bet like Nolan or Matt Reeves who have never really put a foot wrong, That said i think he's a decent choice for Swamp Thing and i am interested in this Jedi origins film he's meant to be doing.

               Speaking off Indy i'm just numb to it now, Disney have just wasted Lucasfilm and Rogue One and Andor aside have done nothing good with them. The ST is awful with even its best entry aging badly, Solo is pretty bad and pointless, Mando is overrated fan service that wastes a great idea of a simple bounty hunter show, Book of Boba is awful and forces Mando viewers to watch it considering how hard it ties in and the various animated stuff barring The Clone Wars is pretty mid at best. Indy 5 being the worst Indy is just expected.

      seems more like something Disney might do tbh. Who for all we know could be to partly to blame for the reviews of that film. I mean Mangold is a great talent with oscar nominated/winning films. If he is passionate about Swamp Thing, I don't see why Gunn would let him go just because of Indy 5. Kind of feel the similarly with how some are saying Muschietti is a bad choice for BatB because of Flash. Like come on...of all the things to blame for whatever issues that movie has, and you want to put it mainly on him?

         I have a feeling Muschiettii will be dropped. Finally seen The Flash and yeah yikes, some good performances (don't like Miller but they sure can act) and action scenes aside i thought the film was messy, didn't feel like a Flash film, wastes a good story and shows a lack of understanding for its characters. The film is going to bomb, WB will be WB and Muschiettii will "leave" over "creative differences". Gunn has power sure but WB will override his choices if they want too.

            I guess. I mean it’s not like the movie has bad reviews even. Far from it tbh. I still see plenty of people saying it’s great. I haven’t seen it and don’t plan to until it’s on streaming since I’m tired of thinking about this franchise. So I can’t speak on it personally. But like I said, it’s hard to say if Andy is really the problem here when the movie was in development hell for so long.

   Is this really bad news? It means people who have been waiting for a Swamp Thing film might get one good film with a beginning, middle, and end before the character is forced to merge with the DCU. Because let's face it, the "universe" part is not the strongest side of DC's film legacy and even trilogies usually have one weak entry.

   Would anyone shed tears if we heard Swamp Thing was being reclassed as a single elseworld film? I wouldn't.

      I would very much agree with this.

      Too often, films connected as part of a larger 'universe' can feel like nothing more than chapters of a book, with the individual heroes and villains involved sometimes feeling rather incidental. Considerable time is often spent dealing with the fallout from a previous film, or setting up events for an upcoming one (not to mention cameos!), and the single film's own merits can often be lost along the way.

      I'm by no means saying that shared universes aren't a good thing, but with a character as unique as Swamp Thing, putting full effort into a single DEDICATED story with (as you say) a beginning, middle and end, is surely the best way to go.

      If the film does really well, and there's sufficient demand, they can always explore making a sequel, and then perhaps even some subtle integration into a wider DCU....but approach the film as a standalone for the best results.

   Considering their stand-alone films have been doing better than their shared universe films, I'd say that's not a bad thing.

   Agreed. He does seem like a very good fit. Perhaps he can do Killer Croc..... or Solomon Grundy.
