According to a new report, Dwayne Johnson did indeed look to change the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe recently.
Variety has released a new report detailing that Johnson had some big plans for himself and Henry Cavill as Superman. According to sources at Warner Bros. Discovery, Johnson pitched CEO David Zaslav on a multi-year plan that would have intertwined his Black Adam character with Cavill's Superman. The story would have finally resulted in a showdown between the characters a few years down the road.
However, it seems that the way Johnson went about it didn't sit well with some executives at the studio with him bypassing several people he should have spoken with first.
Finally, Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairs Michael De Luca and Pam Addy agreed to the Cavill cameo in Black Adam as a test of the idea. With the film having grossed $391 million globally off of a combined budget somewhere in the area of $235 million, and future relations with Johnson over Black Adam seem to have come to a close.
The article goes on to mention that current DC Studios co-chairs James Gunn and Peter Safran are preparing a multi-year plan that the first parts will be announced soon. The degree of reset is still unknown for the DCEU, but apparently Flash, Blue Beetle, Aquaman, and Gunn's own Peacemaker are not off the table for continuing in the new story arcs.
Gunn has said we should expect some news in January, so hopefully we'll know more very soon.
