Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are opening up about they reacted to the news of Batgirl being canceled, and their attempts to capture some of the footage.
Speaking with Skript, Arbi and Fallah shared their initial reaction to the news that
“Adil called and told me, ‘Go ahead. Shoot everything on your mobile. I went on the server … Everything was gone,” said Fallah. El Arbi added, “We were like, ‘Fucking shit!’ All the scenes with Batman in them!”
While the news was still heartbreaking to them, Fallah said it wasn't all bad. “First, when I heard the news, I was shocked. I did not know how to react. I wanted to break stuff, cry. But seeing all this support on Twitter, even big directors, from Edgar Wright to James Gunn, sent us supporting messages.”
In the days that followed, Warner Bros. Discovery explained the decision. “The guys from Warner told us it was not a talent problem from our part or the actress, or even the quality of the movie,” said El Arbi. “They told us it was a strategic change. There was new management, and they wanted to save some money.”
The directors did add should the studio ever change its mind, the film is in a very unfinished state with no visual effects yet in place, and additional shots being required. It would take some work to put it into a presentable form.
