Been loving it in the trailers so dead excited to hear it in full.

The softer part is very mythic. Good job Giacchino.

Indeed, it suggests there's more than brooding and punching bad guys.

I know I'll get hate for it, but Idgaf... this is a really disappointing theme. I thought there would at least be some progressions & Idk... an actual THEME?? But no, the build up "motif" we've been hearing for years now is literally all there is to it. 2 notes looped for several minutes, with zero variation and a simple creciendo to end it. I really wasn't expecting all that much, but this is absolutely barebones, even by Giacchino's standards. His work on superheroes like Spider-Man & Dr. Strange (even things like Incredibles) are SO much better. Batman deserves a lot more than this.

By no means is this going to ruin the movie for me, but this is easily the worst Batman "theme" to date... because there's literally no theme. Even Junkie's monstrosity had an actual theme on top of it that Zimmer wrote. I do think this particular score is less offensive to my ears simply due to the fact that it's nowhere near as bombastic, but melodically speaking, it's generica & lazy.

I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling like this. I mean, I like what I'm hearing but I expected more, and that "crescendo" is eerily similar to what Zimmer did in TDK trilogy (Batman's leit motif) and to what Holkenborg did in BvS (Men are still Good)

Very disappointing. I was one of the optimists reminding others that Giacchino did a great job in LOST and The Incredibles.

But this track is an atrocity. It showcases bad writing from A to Z. Just consider the chordal progressions, which are at the level of any 6 year-old toying around on the grand (if I can speak for myself, at least). The orchestration is mediocre, at best. And don't get me started on the tone. This has absolutely nothing to do with Batman. If that track is any indication for the tone of the movie, then I can write off Batman films for the next 10 years.

I'm currently teaching at two universities courses on film music. In one of them, I have students focus on the Batman franchise. Giacchino's score is certainly going to cause discussion, but an analysis does not seem warranted from what we have heard so far.

Being a Batman an film music fan, when I hear somebody truly f****** up on Batman, it hurts me. And this overly sentimental c*** ... oh my. Anyway, if this is any indication for the movie, I might watch it once (perhaps on streaming) but never again. Some movies are better unseen. From the sound of it, The Batman might be worse than Batman & Robin (1998), which at least features a stellar score by Goldenthal and apart from that *can* be somewhat entertaining for its campy elements and the terrible acting (*Schwarzenegger shouting when falling into the cryo pit* lol - "ööhhh ähhhh uuurrggghhh"), provided there is enough vodka in the cupboard.

Really, all the time Giacchino and Reeves had on their hands (thanks to the pandemic) and this is what they come up with? Overly sentimental, simplistic straight chords without any rhythmic intricacies and motivic development? Apparently, COVID infections do not only affect the sense of taste in the olfactory but in the auditory modalities, too. Otherwise I cannot explain how people can like this joke.

Apologies for the rant. I'm just very disappointed.

Completely agree from a musical standpoint... It sounds elitist and pretentious, but the mediocrity of this score is really apparent to anyone who's actually studied music, which as far as people on this site are concerned, aren't that many. And I'm not saying that as a moral judgement, but merely an observation. Frankly, it's an extremely lazy "theme" (again, if we can even call it that).

That said, at worst, it's still just servicable background music and it's not really going to "ruin" the movie... at the very least, the movie looks really good from a writing, directing, cinematography and acting standpoint, so writing the movie off completely based on the score alone is a bit overblown imo.

Yea i dont buy this for a second, youre really focusing this to be something its not supposed to be. Its a detective film and gives of perfectly correct vibes, its only a little piece that most likely is different than in the film or cut differently. Before judging this based on all the previous themes, you must realise that this movie cant be compared to the previous ones which means the tone has to be different! From this commentary alone, you dont seem to know a lot about movie themes in general and wrote this as biased on your own liking which doesnt really mean anything.

This article has a lot of info on the film:

“This story is, in addition to being almost a horror movie, and a thriller, and an action movie, at its core, it’s also very much a detective story. It’s very narrative.”

“What Pattinson didn’t know was that Reeves had begun writing The Batman with him in mind.”

“There’s an element in the other iterations of the story where Bruce goes off, does his training, masters himself and then comes back to Gotham as a fully realized character and the delineation between Bruce and Batman — the public Bruce, the private Bruce, and the Batman Bruce — are very contained and he can control them more easily,” says Pattinson. “And in this, the lines have totally blurred. His self as Bruce is sort of disintegrating.”

“He’s still stuck, to be honest, emotionally stunted at being 10 years old, because that’s a trauma you don’t get past—witnessing your parents murder in this place.”

I liked Kravitz's remarks about his directing. The level of detail he pays attention to.

It really sounds like this is going to be something special.

Nice, the private Bruce is what Keaton said he wants explored; basically a third persona.

This is nothing like what I expected - it's such a melancholy piece but with an almost hopeful tone that makes me insanely curious about where the story will go

This is not at all what I expected. I mean I sort of like it. But now I'm really confused about the vibe this movie is going for.
I thought this movie was going for a dark, angry maybe noirish vibe.
But the theme became almost like a 1940s films sentimental orchestral score in the middle.
I guess we'll wait and see, but I feel like this movie will be way more sentimental that I initially anticipated.

      Knowlson

We've only heard the theme, which is a recap of all the different moods of the film. It sounds like something that will play over the closing credits.

We'll be hearing other tracks soon; tracks specific to certain scenes and characters. Some action themes, some more moody.

I didn't think it was going to be like a 1940s film. I thought it was going tonbe like Se7en.
But the score kind of threw me off.

lol... I've been kinda lucky in the sense that I really only have to take a leak twice a day, I could probably get it down to once a day if I really wanted to. Everytime I see ppl going to the restrooms during a movie (in theaters), I always feel bad for them, hehe.
