Finally watched the movie over the weekend and i just wasnt that impressed at all unfortunately. I really was expecting it to be a lot better, especially after all the postive reviews.
I thought the script was very hit and miss, as was the delivery from some of the actors.
Some of the song choices just didnt really work.
The cgi for Starro was too cartoonish in my opinion.
The 3rd act final battle was laughable, with Bloodsport literally ripping off Caps tactics speech from Avengers 1. It literally made me role my eyes. I mean really Gunn??
The humour was very hit and miss as well.
Overall a 6.5/10 for me. An above average movie, that didnt really do anything new or bring anything special to the table going forward for the DCEU. I'm happy to discuss my thoughts more in detail if any of you guys are interested.

I was disappointed with it but i am going to rewatch it again to see if that opinion will go up, down or stay the same. I know a lot of you guys really enjoyed it though, so thats what i meant when i said I'd be happy to discuss things 😊

I know I'm probably in the minority but it just didnt click for me. There are parts i really enjoyed but taken as a whole, i was a bit let down. I'll definitely have to rewatch it soon just to see if i was being fair or too harsh.

You're not necessarily in the minority.
Looking at the audience reception for the film( Imdb, cinemascore, RT), majority of the general audiences think the movie is just good. Some where between 7 to 7.5 out of 10.
So your almost in line.
This film, as much as I like it( a solid 8 for me) is not as universally beloved as some people would believe it precisely because of the reasons you mentioned.
Thanks for the info i wasnt aware of all that. If I'm totally honest the conspiracy theorist in me thinks a huge lot of the of the postive reviews for this movie, were because people went easy on Gunn. I mean for me there are a lot of small issues with the movie but taken as a whole they really take away from the movie and DC movies are usually shredded for this type of stuff. Gunn it seems got a pass though.

When it's safe to go, see it in theatres. The experience usually change your mind on a movie.
On a tv. Couldn't see myself shelling out cinema fees to go see a movie i already didnt particularly enjoy. I dont disagree it may have skewed my reaction a bit more positive if i had seen it on the big screen but not by much.
I liked from watching on my computer and then I went to see it on IMAX. The sound was way better in the theatre.

These were exact thoughts when I watched it 2 weeks ago in the UK. Think we have had a conversation about it on another article. Watched it on the big screen as HBO Max isn’t available here. Wasn’t massively impressed.
Yeah me too. I liked it but i didnt love it and too much off the stuff that i didnt enjoy kept pulling me out of the movie. I posted another reply about more of the things i had issue with to someone else in this thread, if your interested to join that conversation.

I am a Christian yes. Thats not why i chose the name though haha. I was a pc gamer when i was younger but crossed over onto console only for my late teens to early 20s but then i built a gaming pc and havent needed to buy a console since. Thus the name.

Very surprised by this. You and I usually line up on subjects. I agree about song choices and hit or miss humor. But I give it a solid 8.5. I watched it for the 5th time today. I still love it.
You and me both dude. I was really expecting to have a great time watching this movie. Instead i found myself just picking flaws in it and being let down by it.
Like we are suppose to believe Bloodsport, the guy who had no problem putting a hero like Superman in ICU but by the end of the movie, is feeling all altruistic and wants to do the right thing and kill Starro despite the threat of death to himself. It doesn't fit his character. He had the drive and his leverage for freedom so didnt need to do the "hero" thing.
Cena's character was just tough to watch, maybe that was the point but i really wanted him to bite the dust especially when it was him or Flagg.
Harley was better written in this movie than any other appearance but wasn't really utilised the best and really you could drop her and the movie wouldn't change that much.
I did like all the unexpected deaths but would have liken to see a bit more of the characters and their abilities before so many of them bought it.
Its a well made film no doubt about, but it all just didnt mesh together, i kept waiting for it to click and it never happened. By the end of it i simply felt "meh it was ok". I wanted to love it and as i said I'll rewatch it to see if i was being too harsh.
All valid points. If it didn’t work for you, it is totally understandable. For me, I felt like it leaned into the comic book feel, paced it well with good action, made me care for the characters, and left me wanting more. None of the deaths surprised me and the plot was almost exactly what I expected to see, but man was I still entertained the entire way.
It did fail financially. It will go down as biggest comic book film flop in history, so maybe your feelings are more the norm than mine. Hopefully Black Adam and Flash will both be home runs in our eyes.
I want to love "all" DC movies as i am far and away a DC over Marvel guy. I dont want to copy the MCU but i do want the DCEU to become as big, successful and loved as it is.
I seem a rrally interesting article on screenrant.com thst says since the snyder era ended DC movies have gotten better critical reception but made diminishing financial returns. DC seems to need to get the GA excited and interested in the franchise again, as well reviewed movies dont seem to be bringing home the bacon for them. Hopefully the next few movies get them back in action.

So, What's your opinion about it's box office?...Looks like i was right about predicting doom and gloom.TSS from start had no hype and the biggest reason for that was bad marketing.Starting with a weak red band trailer which only limited audience can watch was a big mistake.First impression is everything.Even if everything worked out, $300 million box office was the limit for this movie as audience is not in a mood to try out something new.Then, r-rating, No star power, Bad release date also did not help.They also mistook James Gunn for Nolan.They hyped James Gunn like his name will sell tickets.It's pretty obvious now that only twitter cares about James Gunn.
I think Covid, people put off by cinema's due to Covid, HBO Max and R-Rating are to blame. If Covid wasn't a thing it would have been a hit but when Marvel struggle this had no chance.

Some jokes were hella corny.
I didn’t like that they killed captain boomerang & flag. Being a rated R movie really kept me interested because I knew anything could happen.
The Harley Quinn fight scene blew my mind this time!!!
I’ve always found cena annoying in other roles and besides some lame jokes in this movie he was koo.
Over all this felt like another Shazam,ww84, birds of prey and a bit of SS old music hits sprinkled throughout the movie.

Saw it IMAX. Almost felt like I was in a theme park watching it all happen on that big screen. It's The Suicide Squad on acid. What Gunn does well with TSS is heightened realism balancing comic source material. It carves out a new lane for DC in the type of films they can produce but seeing most of these villains battle established characters in DC Films is tough to imagine. I suppose under different direction it could work, but it'd still be mostly an odd fit if they were to try.
If it was toned down similar to the animated films like Assault on Arkham or Hell to Pay, I would've been perfectly fine with that because I feel that's The Suicide Squad in its best mainstream medium for all people. Any viewer can engage with that and it turns nobody off. That's what makes David Ayer's version appealing. But this was definitely DC allowing Gunn to let loose with one of their properties. It's the closest thing to Deadpool for DC. The good thing is though, this was the right film and comic property to do that with.
An irreverent mood naturally fits this comic & its characters. That's why it's different and that's why the movie works. I feel James ultimately understood the assignment.
I give it an 8 out of 10. It's solid. But OVERHYPED for all the months I read its praises post after post and article after article before it was released. It has a couple minor flaws that irked me, mainly being that WAY too many members were killed off in the beginning.
I was frustrated by that in particular because I follow one of the actors on Instagram and they die almost immediately in the film. Even if some of the characters were killed quickly, they should've been given more time on screen to have part in the story, have their lines, and show their character before being systematically/randomly taken out.
Clearly won't be everyone's taste. With some core knowledge of The Suicide Squad comes understanding for what you're getting into. But for the average moviegoer not like us, it's a total crapshoot.
On a side note, how is it that Margot's Harley Quinn fights so well?? It always stands out to me in every film she's in. Her Harley has been designed to be ninja-level entertaining.
To me, when I imagine Harley Quinn's fighting style, it should be virtually non-existent. Practically accidental. The use of her bat, her hammer, maybe some basic kicks & punches, but more geared to an entertaining, slapstick comedy in a way for fighting.... comedic fighting to give it a name. She's a nut, psycho, a looney tune.... with a touch of humanity. She isn't a legit beast with full-on martial arts & combat training. The real Harley Quinn shouldn't be as skilled as Margot Robbie's Harley. But she's fun to watch.

Because apparently the Honest Trailer for The Suicide Squad is news worthy but the weekend box-office performance for the film, it's massive weekend drop or it's HBOMax performance.
