Doom Patrol season 3 trailer takes us through the looking glass

The Doom Patrol is back for a third season of unexpected shenanigans.

Doom Patrol is the second original series to make the move from DC Universe over to HBO Max in the shakeup of streaming services. When last we left the team it was in a truncated season finale due to the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Judging by the trailer it seems that issue will be dealt with fairly quickly.

From there, with this team, you just never can be quite sure where it's going to head.

Go through the looking glass with a super-powered gang of outcasts (including Matt Bomer as Negative Man, Joivan Wade as Cyborg, Brendan Fraser as Robotman, and more). Last seen at a decrepit amusement park where Chief (Timothy Dalton) witnessed his metahuman daughter, Dorothy (Abigail Shapiro) engaged in a fiery face-off with "The Candlemaker," an ancient evil deity who will stop at nothing to fulfill his world-ending destiny, join the #DoomPatrol for an action-packed third season.

Doom Patrol season 3 will debut on HBO Max on Sept. 23.

So as we guessed it would TSS has sadly bombed. Being honest i don't think its a big loss because the reviews are strong and audiences seem to like it with good buzz online, if Covid was never a thing i'm willing to bet WB could have had a Deadpool sized hit but as it is the world is to much chaos for going to cinema. I doubt WB will turn on Gunn and i bet he gets the same amount of freedom for his next DC film. So yeah a loss for WB sure but overall it won't change anything.

contrary to popular belief in some circles, WB has a history of often supporting directors they really like that do good work even if it doesn't always make the most money. Look at Denis Villeneuve.
It is a real shame though. I thought it was awesome personally. Been buzzing about it myself a lot since I saw it a couple days ago.

  Yeah Denis Villeneuve films aren't really hits yet WB still gave him a blank cheque for Dune. Snyder fanboys like to think WB get in the way when really they don't, look at Nolan he was allowed to make whatever he wanted for any price he wanted.

unfortunately it's kind of a big loss for WB, since in HBO Max (unlike Disney+) people don't have to pay extra to watch new movies.
so the new money coming in is only from NEW subscribers and I don't know how many The Suicide Squad will bring in.
Obviously there's the issue of retaining subscribers and bringing back people who stopped paying after watching Mortal Kombat (really?!) but I don't know how that's going to factor into their calculations of how much money THIS movie brought in.

  Its going to lose money but i don't think WB will blame Gunn or the film, when even Marvel are struggling i think its clear an R-Rated Suicide Squad wasn't going to do well. I think though its going to do well in home video and get a nice following that way.

I do think the current state of this pandemic is affecting people going to the cinema "but" i dont think thats the only reason for its Box Office shortfall. The trailers haven't been that great in my opinion plus a lot of people are unsure if its a reboot or sequel to a very polarising movie. Its only rated as 16s not 18s here in Ireland, so i think it is a bit more accessible to a larger audience but still dont think that will save it. For some reason people just haven't responded to this movie. I'm seeing it today myself but even as a DC fan, I'm not bursting to see it, so a casual movie goer would be even less so.

Oh well, Birds of Prey did well in PVOD. I guess TSS will do even better in PVOD.

Another reason is family movies do well during the pandemic, not so much R rated movies, in the States anyway.
