Walter Hamada says James Gunn will return for another DC project

It seems that DC Films isn't quite done with James Gunn yet if Walter Hamada has anything to say about it.

Gunn is an in-demand director at the moment, and it seems like he is only becoming more so. With The Suicide Squad opening in more countries this week, everyone is speaking about his future, and it seems DC Films wants to work with him again.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, DC Films president Walter Hamada said, “Gunn is always welcome back, whatever he wants to do. He really has a vision and he’s a great partner with us. Whenever he wants to come back, we’re ready for him.” Hamada went on to add, “He’ll be back. We have more stuff planned.”

Gunn is currently editing the HBO Max Peacemaker series while also prepping both the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for Marvel Studios.

From comments Gunn has made over the press circuit for The Suicide Squad you shouldn't immediately suspect it will be another outing for Task Force X. Gunn has said it will be something "unexpected," so you can let your imaginations run wild on what that could possibly mean.

The Suicide Squad is due to hit theaters and HBO Max on Aug. 5, 2021 in the U.S.

Give him Harley Quinn, she was great in the film and his style really suited Harley and Robbie clearly loved his vision of Harley as she gave her best performance.

  Going by the set photo its hard to tell, better then JL but that's not saying much. Like the Supergirl costume i'm waiting for a proper full reveal before i give too much thought into it.

    Fair enough. I just like that it looks so much closer than the scrap metal nonsense we got in JL. With all the leaks I think something official will come soon.

      The amount of costumes in that film are really adding up. When all is said and done, there may very well be more than JL.

      I've heard reports Cavill may be cameo, being honest though it appears that's false i could see it happening if Supergirl is Lara and not Kara. I actually hope he does appear mainly because it would give us a chance to see how he is fully away from Snyder.

      I think it will for sure. They already have two Batman, Seemingly two Flashes, Supergirl and maybe Wonder Woman and Superman. I suspect much more is on the way.

This is to be expected. It's the most successful DCEU film to date (RE reception) and hasn't even been released yet.

I'd like to see him do someone else, and something other than a group of misfits. Given his humor I think Plastic Man would be a fantastic fit.

Like I said before this dude is killing it with Marvel AND DC. I am so excited to see what he will do with Guardians of the Galaxy 3 after coming to it from Suicide Squad and especially considering that Guardians 3 will have to deal with the fallout of Avengers Endgame AND Thor Love and Thunder. And considering Guardians 3 will be the final Guardians movie Gunn can practically do anything to these characters now. Probably not gonna be as drastic as Suicide Squad (as this is still Disney we're talking about) but gonna be a crazy ride nontheless. Gunn is on fire right now.

I'm still wondering if Thor will be in Guardians 3 considering how Endgame ended and the fact both Peter and Nebula are in Love and Thunder.

So as it naturally hasn't been reported here has anyone seen the rumours of who the big bad is of The Flash? Well its meant to be Barry himself well another version of him and yeah i'm beyond p*ssed if true, The Flash has a rogue's gallery up there with Batman and Spider-Man yet they chose a bad version of Barry. Yeah sure The Flash's having bad versions of themselves is nothing new, Wally had The Dark Flash arc what was fantastic and Barry had a mediocre N52 story of a darker version of himself but this is first Flash film so you know you expect someone big like Thawne or The Rogues or even Grodd not Barry but evil. If they wanted an evil speedster why not the most evil of them all in Thawne, he's up there with the best of DC Villains and is one of the most personal villains a hero can have, he killed Iris, he killed his Mom, he ruined his childhood by killing his childhood best friend and even his pets, he messed with the Flash Family, he's obsessed with Barry and he's extremely powerful and scary, he should be the villain here not Barry himself. Hopefully this stays a rumour or have it that Thawne is posing as Barry hence why people think Barry is the villain, Thawne posing as Barry and looking like him is again nothing new and played a major part in the legendary The Return of Barry Allen.

  He did during The Return of Barry Allen where he posed as Barry. They could very well be doing that and that's why people less informed are thinking Barry's the villain, hopefully it stays that way and could give Miller a chance to push himself.

    I'm fine with either explanations for 2 Barrys. The TV show did Barry as Savatar. They blew the reveal but it was good. They should had just made Barry go crazy for being trapped in the speed force for so long.

      I didn't like the Savitar stuff in the show mainly because the actual Savitar of the comics is a much better and more interesting villain. Having the reveal be 2 or 3 episodes before the final was a poor move as well. Being truthful i'm not a fan of Barry becoming evil, its never really worked and its just another speedster enemy to add the already too big speedster villain list. Really though i'm just annoyed they aren't picking an actual villain from his rich list of them for his first film, i'm guessing the film will deal with Nora's death considering she's in it and time travel is playing a part so why not use the one villain linked so heavily to both.

I think the rumors are BS. All of the set photos of the alternate Barry show him having a cheerful conversation with regular Barry. Plus, there was the leaked photo of alternate/long haired Barry in Keaton's Batcave looking around in awe. Not really villain vibes.

It'd be interesting to see if he can find the right balance for a Supes film. So many people label directors to be one-trick ponies as do studios at times. But I wonder if he has it in him, especially when I think of Idris Elba's Bloodsport and that character's connection to Superman.

So, an obvious one that stands out to me is Booster Gold. I personally have no desire to see a Booster Gold movie, but Gunn would have great fun with a character like Booster and would flesh him out really well. But that's too on the nose for me. So I'm just getting that out of my system.

In an effort to not typecast his directorial work and pigeonhole him only into certain movies and characters, I'd love to see James' take on a Green Arrow movie.

Ollie has great wit and charisma but the character has always dealt with serious themes in his backstory and throughout his crusade. There are a handful of great villains to flesh out and it's a strong action/adventure with a transformative story. Plus, there's a whole Green Arrow family to build out of it (as well as the Black Canary connection, of course). We've been clamoring for this movie for years and need someone to jump on the bandwagon and flesh out this franchise. I think he has that right balance in his work and all that is needed for GA to deliver a strong, fun action-adventure film that hits the target dead center.
