Return to the DCAU this May in the digital-first series “Justice League Infinity”

Are you one of the legion of fans who became a DC junkie thanks to Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, and Justice League? If so, have you been longing for a return to that world, with moves like Justice League vs. the Fatal Five and comic series like Batman: The Adventures Continue whetting your appetite but making you want more?

Well, friend, do I have great news for you, as DC Comics have announced Justice League Infinity, a brand new digital-first series that will take place in the same continuity as the DC Animated Universe.

That’s all well and good, and enough to get me excited for this, but what about the creative team? Who are the writers and artists that have been tapped to draw us back into the animated world of the League?

Do names like James Tucker, J.M. DeMatteis, Ethen Beavers, Nick Filardi, and Tom Napolitano ring any bells? Oh, and how about some covers from Francis Manapul, Scott Hepburn, and Ian Herring?

Yeah, that’s some good pedigree.

The print run will total seven issues, so I think it’s safe to say that there will be about fourteen digital chapters, which will be plenty of great content for fans of all sorts. The first chapter of Justice League Infinity will hit digital platforms on May 13, with print issues coming to comic shops on July 7.

The DCAU is my favorite version of DC, but I'd prefer to leave the past where it belongs and see completely new content made instead.

Agreed. The finale of JLU was a freaking masterpiece; we don’t need this story to continue.

  I'm always amazed anytime I re-watch Destroyer how much content they were able to fit in 20 minutes. The DCAU was truly ahead of its time, and for a lot of fans the rest of DC still lives in its shadow.

    Amen. The animated movies and video games are the best adaptations of the DCU IMO after JLU.

Reminder that DCAU tie-in comics aren’t technically canon, anyway, so don’t be bothered by this if you’d rather JLU be done with. The way I see it this is just a fun side thing

Interesting! I was excited when I saw this in my RSS feed and thought it was a new animated series, slightly disappointed that it was'nt. Still, I guess this pairs well with the BTAS comic. I wonder if they will reference each other at all?

Wish we had some more info on BTAS returning to HBO Max

That'd be awesome, as long as it's not Bruce Timm anymore...don't get me wrong, I LOVE the original BTAS, but he's way to in to making batman sleep with everyone. Look what he did with his allowed freedom and input to "empower" Batgirl in the animated Killing Joke. I love that movie, but skip the 1st 20 minutes EVERY time after finding that skip-to point the first watch-through lol

I hated how that cartoon ended. Very weak. They could have done so much more with the Legion of Doom. Half the villains died. Darkseid couldn't kill anyone when he invaded Earth. Nobody got a proper closure or anything. Wish there was another season.

To me the real ending of JLU was Waller explaining to Terry his origin.

  I'm in the minority of one on this, but I never cared for Terry McGinnis or anything having to do with Batman Beyond. That guy was a blatant rip off of Peter Parker and the show's version of Bruce suggests this terrible depressing take that he is meant to die alone. Fuk dat. He's got kids and he's got Selina. If not Helena Wayne, then Damian will inherit the cowl. McGinnis can be Batman in some other universe I don't care about.

    I’m with you. The idea that the great Bruce they established in that Universe with an enormous amount of allies and affiliates and the absolute respect of everyone he comes across would end up like Ebenezer Scrooge is Beyond absurd, imo.
    The only reason they made that show was because all the cartoon execs wanted kids as heroes. It’s why X-Men Evolution was created around same time too. I would gladly wipe Beyond storyline out of existence, despite enjoying the comic book series which has an older, better trained Terry.

    I mean, the DCAU IS that “other universe.” Damian exists in the comics universe, not here, so that critique would apply to the mainstream DCU (or Earth-Two, in the case of Selena and Helena Wayne) more than the DCAU

    Oh I agree. I never cared for Beyond. It wasn't Batman at all. I still liked the episode with Waller explaining things to him though.

That final season was never intended to be made, it was done so after Cartoon Network renewed the show so the creators had no choice but to continue. With that said, after everything they did up to that point, there wasn't much more they could do.

I just want the JL reunion movie honestly. And make it a sequel to JLvsF5 to close some of that movie’s loose ends.

That movie was really good, I wouldn't mind a series focusing on Jessica Cruz.
The Hal Jordan focused show was fine, though I wasn't a huge fan of the CGI animation.

  Yeah I generally can’t stand when shows do that CG thing. Though I did like the style better in Green Lantern than Beware the Batman; that one was so stiff and weirdly proportioned...

    It was less noticeable on the Green Lantern show because it mostly took place in space or on alien planets, but it's kind of hard not to take note when your entire show seemingly takes place at night on an apparently mostly deserted Gotham City. (Also didn't help was that there were barely any colors on that Batman show)
