Wonder Woman 1984 takes fourth in its seventh week at the box office

Wonder Woman 1984 is wrapping up its second weekend of theater exclusivity with a fourth place finish.

Having left HBO Max in late Jan., Wonder Woman 1984 just wrapped up its second weekend of theater exclusivity. As the first of Warner Bros. films to launch in theaters and on HBO Max at the same time, it's a huge test of how this program will work out financially.

Last weekend the film took in $1.3 million, this weekend it took in $950,000, but with no screens lost in North America. It now stands at $40.3 million domestically and $154.5 million globally.

Normally we end box office report coverage before this point in a film's run, but with the new release model, we're giving this one a few extra weeks of reports. With The Suicide Squad following a similar release model in Aug. of this year, we'll have some idea of what to expect from that film. The day-and-date plan of Warner Bros. is going to be interesting to follow. The second film to follow this model is The Little Things which took first place this weekend, its second since release, with $2.1 million.

The next DC film to be released will be Zack Snyder's Justice League on March 18 on HBO Max in the U.S., and The Suicide Squad is due to hit theaters and HBO Max on Aug. 6, 2021.

In all fairness, Fisher using comparisons of those other phrases is not really the same thing. Yes the phases he chose to use are known for been linked to their respective heroes but the heroes are not "known" by those phrases, and the characters not uttering them in the movie detracts nothing from them.
Where as Cyborg and Booyah are synonymous and as such having him not say it, at least once, is a very strange call. Pointless and a slap in the face to his fans.
Before you say its a cartoon catchphrase not a comic one, i am aware, still doesn't change the fact all his fans know him for saying it and as such will notice its needless omission.

  I don't know, Superman's catchphrases are AT LEAST as famous and linked to him as Cyborg's "booyah" is, if not more so, I'd say. I mean, Superman's are so iconic they've become mainstays in everyday speech.
  I also wouldn't say Cyborg and booyah are synonymous at all, by definition, since he didn't even ever utter it once for many, many years of his existence in the comics at all. So I would disagree 100% there. Perhaps a slap in the face to fans who only know him from the animated series...? Even that seems a bit extreme though; to me a "slap in the face" wouldn't be unless he like outright had Cyborg say I hate the word booyah or something, lol ...but actually that would be more of a joke than anything, so I'm not sure that would count as particularly insulting ether necessarily...

It didn't make money like it should have or result in new subscribers, so yes, it's a flop like BvS was a flop despite it making some money.

    Not "well liked," just liked. I don't presume to assign a specific degree of like to it, especially since I am sure that many only barely liked it, or didn't feel very strongly at all. But yeah, I do say that, because it is a reasonable conclusion supportable by evidence. Not "making stuff up" by any stretch.
    As for WW84, what I say about BvS shouldn't matter. The only thing that should matter is the evidence presented. And the cold hard fact of the matter is that critically, the reception is by definition not a flop. Most of the critics liked it. That is the definition of not a flop. Financially, you have even agreed it has done well. GA-wise, again, I invite you to check out RT, IMDb, Metacritic, and CinemaScore. The results look mixed, with CinemaScore suggesting an edge toward the positive end. A "flop" would suggest consistent, predominant negativity.
    That article might be true. It would be worth looking into. But as it stands, that seems to be a minority opinion, so I am slow to accept that. Certainly the box office alone was good enough to transcend "flop" territory, too, considering how it was record-setting and such.

      Yeah that's, I don't think he would be sneaky about it. Not to the extent of getting someone to do what Fisher was doing. On the other hand, I do think it was incredibly scummy to constantly be leaking images from his unfinished cut, and never speaking up despite all the reports of the toxic behavior from his fans. People like ninja can deny the toxicity, but there has been several articles in mainstream outlets written about it, it's hard to ignore at this point.

      This is exactly my point.
      Snyder was just given 70mil additional dollars to make a 4 hr long, R rated version of "his" box-office bomb film that he probably had no hope of actually getting made, with complete creative freedom.
      He got what he wanted, and it was unprecedented.
      And after this, he has an entirely new franchise to look forward to at Netflix.
      He has no reason to do this. And nor does he have a history of going after his superiors.

      Thats why Snyder changed his five film plan( with a 2 parter JL) to a single film with a definitive end.
      Snyder was already ready to let go of DC after JL. That's why he even started working on a new franchise after JL.

      After JL, He was out of job for 1.5 year.Then, Netflix hired him.He had no choice but to go to Netflix and make zombie movies.No other legit studio hired him and WB hated him.His only chance at a legit studio which can let him make big budget blockbusters was HBO max movie division which was recently taken over by Toby Emmerich.
      Also, He is likely to leave JL at a cliffhanger in hopes for a return.

      Dude, just read his recent interview with cinemablend.
      He purposefully took a break to deal with his family situation and his own mental health.
      And he's not making some small film. He's creaing an entire franchise under his own leadership. And Netflix gave him a 200mil for his film which is a lot.
      And nowadays Netflix is as legit as any other studios. Some of the biggest name directors go to Netflix to make their films.
      And just like last year, this year once again Netflix will be the biggest Oscar contender.

      Netflix is famous for pretty much greenlight any idea regardless of how trash it is.Cause of that, 90% of their original movies are trash.B/W, Many of us would love nothing more than him leave for Netflix.They can make him the head of movie division at Netflix and we would just be glad that he left DC alone.

      End of the day if Autumn didn't tragically die and none of the Whedon stuff happened then his cut back then would have been a 150min PG-13 film with at the very least some mild studio interference. Now he gets to make the film the way he wants it and he can make it as "adult" as he wants and a long as he wants, why risk losing that by going after WB like this? It makes no sense.

      Snyder new before the whole fiasco that he was done after JL. That is why, by his own admission, he changed the script to be a single film with a definitive ending instead of the planned 2 parter with a cliff hanger before the shooting even started.
      And besides that, Snyder has no history of going after his bosses. His films have always been cut down theatrically. Even during the time before ZSJL announcement he never bad mouthed or demonized any one.

      For me these people who make Snyder conspiracies are just as bad as the people who claim Johns and Whedon were leaking Snyder plan to Marvel.

I tend to stick with those who report news with their own take on it so with gaming its Yongyea for instance or i follow those what do film or game essays and documentary's. Videos of angry men really stretching the truth, making up stuff or believing every rumour i can't stand.

    I'm gonna watch again soon. I didn't dislike the movie. It was alright, probably a similar quality to BoP in my eyes. I remember particularly liking the family theme. But it was pretty Hallmark budget feeling at times, I can see the complaints that Zachary Levi and Asher Angel weren't sufficiently alike, and I don't remember laughing as hard at anything in that movie as I have at some of Sandberg's tweets lol

      I honestly found the film to be very funny and entertaining.
      Yes, the jokes were a little Childish but that is to be expected of a film focused on young characters.

      Watch the flashback scenes to the fair when Billy was little again. I don't remember the movie super well, but those still stand out to me in my memory as looking identical to every Hallmark movie I have ever seen in how it was shot, looked, acted, etc.
      I can't remember how funny I found it. I'm sure I laughed. But I do know for sure I didn't find it nearly as funny as Sandberg's tweets are lol. He just has fresher, more unique, clever, meme-ish humor that I can really appreciate on his Twitter that I don't remember being at all present in the movie. This tweet is actually a poorer example compared to some of the stuff he's posted. He's off-beat and original, but the humor from Shazam was more vanilla from what I remember.
      I also can't remember the comparison between Levi and Angel too well. I just see that comment from time to time and think to myself "Yeah that feels more or less right," certainly as far as appearance goes at the very least.
      We'll see how things change on second viewing. I do also remember really liking the Seven Deadly Sins; like I was super impressed by their design and creepiness. That stands out in my memory still, too.

Also I just realized how Sandberg's simply editing a pic for a meme looks better quality than the actual costume in the movie itself did LOL - love that magical smokey effect being emitted from the symbol, way better than mere cheap frosted plastic and LEDs

I don't think it will affect things too much. The pandemic is the factor, not their strategy. I don't think their strategy makes sense but they are not losing anything by doing it. It's no different from cams being available on a day of release. People who want to go see movie in theaters are still going to do so.

  Yeah but right now theatres aren't an option for many places. Difference between cam recorded stuff and stuff taking directing from HBO Max is cam stuff looks terrible while stuff from HBO Max can be up to 4K and not be a recorded image.
  Personally i think they should have delayed everything until the end of the year and next year. Disney might get away with Black Widow on D+ because its D+ what is getting huge now but HBO Max is well HBO Max need i say more.

    Theaters are active in more countries than not, Asia for sure, Australia, NZ, etc. Even plenty of states here in the US have them open. And cams look pretty good these days on day one. You can tell it's a cam, but it's not blurry like they used to be 20 years ago. Telesyncs became the norm some time ago. Agree HBO Max stuff is obviously better I just don't think it really makes a difference in this case. People who like theaters are still going to go to theaters, people who were going to get it for free are still getting it for free they just get something better.
    The thing is AT&T are in so much debt, I don't blame them for trying to use WB to get money, but they re doing it all wrong. For starters they should be doing way, WAY more animated stuff since that can be done from peoples homes, they could be doing small budget TV shows and put on HBO Max, there is so much they could be doing if they were creative, it doesn't have to all be about blockbusters.

      So you're right that having it available same day on download sites does not bode well for WB in terms of recouping money. People who would otherwise not bother with a cam/screener because of quality aren't going to have the same problem with a full HD or 4K download.

    King of the Monsters most watched trailer has 371k likes while Godzilla vs. Kong trailer has 1.6 million likes so nowhere near it.
    Views can be artificially inflated with paid ads so pay attention to likes on a video.That should show people level of excitement.

Depends on how well they do on Hbo Max.
I read a report that said that hbomax max needed to add 15 million subscribers in 2021, to make up for the possible loss from the films with date and day release on HBO Max.

  They would really need more than that, and they would also need those subs to actually stay subbed for at least a few months. And I think that is really the problem. Sure people will sub to see a film that they can't see in theaters, but will they remain subbed after so that HBO can pull in similar numbers it would from the theater?

I don't think it matters how good the movies are, streaming simply can't replace the revenue from theaters for a blockbuster over the long run. If it were just 2 or 3 services, then I might see people subscribing and then remaining (which is how HBO Max could make up the revenue). But with all of the services there are now, more and more people are strategically subscribing and then cancelling after they see the content they want. So you're not making up that 500+ million dollars that you would get from theaters for even a mediocre blockbuster.

Director Zack Snyder revealed on Twitter when fans can expect a new trailer for his highly anticipated cut of Justice League, debuting on HBO Max on March 18.

"On the goal line," Snyder posted on Feb. 7, referring to the evening's NFL Super Bowl LV. "Trailer drop 2/14/21 [at] 9:14am PST."

How nice of him. he must be taking into account that the vast majority of his fans don't have girlfriends. Truly considerate in giving them something to take their minds of that by dropping a trailer for a heavily fetishized film.

I hope its a trailer what isn't bogged down by a cringey song. Just make it around 3 mins, have standard trailer music and focus on getting us hyped, something like the Comic Con trailer for BvS what was actually a great trailer.

  Yup. Let us see some of the new footage...out of 4 hours I would expect he can spare 3 minutes of completely new footage. Show us the story. Show us some finished CG. Show us how it is so radically different from his first attempt.
  I dunno though. Given how he paces his films I'm not expecting a stellar trailer.
  He included a clip of a football scene from the film, and guess what? It was in slow motion lol.

    Being honest i think the trailers for his films 9/10 are pretty great, MoS and BvS have some fantastic trailers as does 300 and Watchmen.

      But he didn't do the trailers to his other films. The studio got a company that specifically does trailers to do them. When he does the trailers we get black and white footage set to Hallelujah.

      He did outsource the upcoming trailer to trailer companies. Several, in fact. My friend’s company lost the bid, but they were only one of many who submitted trailers to Zack and HBO. Not sure who won, and I can guarantee Zack and HBO had influence and gave them notes to change or add or take away certain parts, but it was definitely done by a trailer company.

      Good to know. I genuinely hope the trailer is good and that the movie is as well. Even if I don't like the movie I will probably still like the trailer.
      It will be interesting to see how it compares to the other trailers for his films that likely had a lot more studio input and say.

You can literally go back to the comment section in 2016 and see my comments. I met my wife exactly a month after the film came out and got busy with life. I recently came back on this site because Snyder was finally releasing his cut and I wanted to stay up to date.
