Wonder Woman 3 officially greenlit with Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot

It's official: Wonder Woman 3 has been greenlit and it is reportedly being fast-tracked at Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. announced on Sunday that it has officially given the green light to Wonder Woman 3. Patty Jenkins will return as director, while Gal Gadot will return in the title role.

“As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of Wonder Woman 1984, we are excited to be able continue her story with our real life Wonder Women — Gal and Patty — who will return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy,” said Warner Bros. chief Toby Emmerich.

No potential release date has been announced as of yet, but the film is said be fast-tracked at the studio. That does raise some questions as Jenkins has committed to Star Wars Rogue Squadron at Lucasfilm with a release date of Dec. 25, 2023. There is a chance Wonder Woman 3 work could be closer to being ready to roll than you might think, but it still would be a tall order to pull off a third outing for Wonder Woman in this window of time.

I haven't seen 84 yet but based on what I'm hearing, I really hope she and the rest of the crew will be able to stick the landing of this trilogy. Whether or not I end up liking 84, I'm really happy she'll be able to finish her trilogy.

Same here. The rumor going around is that J.J Abrams will be taking over Superman, but whether or not it's a sequel or a reboot remain to be seen. Batman got a trilogy from Nolan with another one on the way from Reeves, and now WW is wrapping up hers, why can't Superman get one ? MOS should've gotten a sequel years ago.

  I'd be fine with that too, except I know for a fact that WB has a mandate that they "have to" get a female director, which wouldn't necesarilly bother me... except female directors, especially when it comes to these types of "female empowerment" movies, are so much more likely to delve into the typical, tired "GIRL POWER! MEN ARE TRASH" themes which is about the last thing this franchise needs. Patty understands that treating male characters & the male audience like garbage is not necessary to push genuine female empowerment. She's not an ideologue like Cathy Yan, who WB had to stop from making a wickedly political movie about the "evils of the patriarchy" if you've seen her interviews. 99% of directors, especially female ones, believe in that type of asinine pandering... Patty is that 1%, and she's also a good director on her own. So I doubt they can get anyone better to replace her.

I can one up you on that one -- they did the exact same thing a week before BvS came out. That was approximately when the floodgates of the internet started to crack and the word started to come out that the movie was bad. WB panicked and announced that it was moving forward with the same creative team for JL immediately.

    “Most that saw it liked it.” I make no more claims than that, and all the numbers we have for determining that do agree. Box office drop can be explained through a number of factors, including the fact that while most who saw it did like it, there was still a very significant number of people who really didn’t.

      You've specifically stated the general audience loved the movie, but lets go with the claim you've made here for simplicity.
      1) If most who saw it liked it, there would have been positive word of mouth and not negative word of mouth. Word of mouth is directly what led to the dropoff in sales.
      2) If most who saw it liked it, that sampling would have been indicative of the larger population, and it would have continued to attract people who also would have liked it. The exact opposite happened, and it did far, far worse than MoS which was already a polarizing movie.
      3) The idea that most people saw it liked it is inconsistent with the idea that there was a significant number of people who didn't that led to the drop off sales. The majority of reactions is what would establish if the box office decreases or increases, and we know the majority of reactions were negative. That is inconsistent with the majority of people liking the film, as you claim here.
      There is absolutely no way to reconcile your claim with the numbers we have.
      I'll tell you what though. I know you don't want to trust or believe me. How about I post your claim and the numbers on a site like https://math.stackexchange...., and we can get numerous answers from numerous different people with high reputations on that site explaining why your claim can't be true?

Keep the Snyders as a producer, better get rid of Geoff Johns and introduce Artemis, Donna or Nubia. See you in 2025 Patty. 2026? What is time anyway? BvS took 5 years to get a sequel and Shazam 2 will take quite some time too. Unless this is more vaporware. So much of that going around with WB. We´ll see but I am hopeful.

Now for that other JLA movie or two. And how about a one and done Batfleck Begins. HBO Max can need all of these. My wish and I will not renounce it.

Well, in Wonder Woman 1984, Patty Jenkins has officially delivered her first stinker. The script was incredibly weak. The premise was ridiculous, and that just goes to show that not everything translates to the big screen. I didn't really need Trevor back, either. They had good chemistry in both films, but I feel like fixating on their romance is really only hurting Diana.

Contrary to many other opinions, I didn't like either Lord or Cheetah. The actors are great, but the script failed them. Surprisingly, Gal was the movie's saving grace. She had a lot more to do in this film, and she's done a great job IMO. It was her best acting to date. The score wasn't great. Should've stuck with Rupert.

The movie was a real letdown overall. Would've loved a better story, and I want to see Diana kicking ass and being totally brutal. I hate it that Patty has essentially made her the female counterpart of Superman. And now rumor has it that they're going to bring back Trevor again for the 3rd one. God, I hate it already.

The thing with Trevor is why not just bring him back in his own body? The story beats would be the same, she would still have to give him up. The whole thing with him possessing that dude and it not being remarked on once is super weird.
Agree though this movie was a stinker. It wasn't as bad as BvS and only marginally better than Birds of Prey.

Where's Ninja and his minions??? Just yesterday he said that Cavil is "in demand", and that WB can't wait to do MoS2! Of course, he completely ignored the fact that I said that if the studio wants to do a film, it just goes and does it (as opposed to waiting a decade between films). And now WB greenlit a THIRD WW movie. And for the record, the first one came out in 2017, four years AFTER MoS.

And that just goes to show that a movie doesn't have to be good. It only has to be good with the GA. BvS and MoS were universally hated (on top of being appallingly bad), and Cavil's dour, brooding Superman was an utter failure with the GA. And THAT'S why he isn't getting a sequel.

Go look at every source we have to determine such a thing; Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb, Metacritic, and CinemaScore all confirm that the majority of not only general audience members but also even critics liked the movie. And financially it was successful (hence immediately spawning a 5-movie deal with Zack Snyder). MoS is the least debatable one of Snyder’s DCEU films. It is clearly a winner. BvS is a more complicated story, but MoS is quite simply a settled argument.

      It's profit was less due to it's budget. But if we just look at the box-office, then MoS still had a relatively positive reception. It's box-office numbers were on par with the first 2 Iron Man films.
      And much better than the previously released superman Returns.
      Even today, when adjusted for inflation, it ranks as the 2nd highest grossing Superman film ever.
      On any website, the audience rating of MoS has always been more than 70%.
      And MoS bluray sales in the US, even today, rank as the 24th highest ever. Even outselling the likes of Infinity War.
      Considering all these facts, it's very easy to see that most of the GA really liked MoS.

  MoS I strongly dislike, but a lot of that is due to script decisions. It's mostly competently edited and has clear acts, which is the only reason it's higher on my list. I can't put WW84 as high as you have because the more I think about it, the more I think of problems with it, to the point I put it below Zack's first JL film.

    Make no mistake, 1984 is a bad movie, but it wasn't all bad. The movies I ranked below were just worse (for me). MoS is, IMO, a terrible movie because of the depiction of Superman as a brooding MF, and also the strange decisions he makes (letting Pa Kent die, but saving a piece of a$$ he'd never seen before in his life).
    Also, his and Lois revolting sibling chemistry. Also, they're making out on the ashes of tens of thousands of casualties. Also, Cavil is a bad actor. Also, Pa Kent was terrible and annoying AF.
    I can go on, but I'll spare you the full-on scathing, lol.

      Nah I agree with all of that lol. I was trying to rank based on how well mde the films were versus my personal preferences, otherwise MoS would be much lower for me. Honestly I think JL, MoS, SS and BoP are all pretty similar in how bad they are, but there is still a ranking. But actually I just changed my order around anyway. I still put JL above WW84 though.

  Shazam is unquestionably a better film than MoS, and I think the best in the DCEU. I don't like it that much and have no desire to rewatch it, but I'm not talking about personal preferences. I think it's the best made, best directed and best scripted. It has clear character development over the course of the movie (the characters are not the same at the end as at the beginning), there is minimal exposition (following a rule of good films, show don't tell), the action sequences are believable and further the plot, characters don't act out of order or do things that don't make sense, the pacing is on point, and the themes of the message are clearly communicated.
  That's true to a lesser extent of WW and AM, and most of that stuff is far from true for the rest.
  I expect this sites biggest troll to reply basically plagiarizing my paragraph and negating it without really understanding it, but that's OK. People do all sorts of things including lying to themselves to deal with real world issues.

  It's ridiculous that WB/DC Films hasn't bothered to prioritize Superman ( as opposed to say Harley Quinn, New Gods, etc), when CLEARLY there is a demonstrated interest in DC characters on film in more classic, crowdpleasing less grim manners. They saw it with Aquaman and Wonder Woman and the fact they are putting so much into keeping Flash afloat shows it doesn't matter if the characters were introduced in previously dodgy/ polarizing/questionable films like MOS Justice League or BvS. Fans / audiences will respond if they can see Superman is being handled by people who respect the source material and who DON'T treat Superman as a problem thst needs 'growing up'. Dump the dreary, pretentious Watchmen-obsessed worldview, and make it fun FGS. Allow Cavill to charm and interact like Clark in the books. Drop the tired Christ allegories. Portray the world of the comics like Aquaman and WW and that's a WIN for DC and the fans. I don't care how many other characters they try to throw at us, there can be no healthy, functioning cinematic DC Pantheon without Superman. They should make sure the big three are done right.

      Come on. I think that's a bit of a cop-out. WW is almost as strong as Superman, no one had any issues with her in the film in terms of physical challenge. Plus in all of the animated movies and the wildly successful animated series ( which are deeply informed by the modern comics btw), they had no problem presenting physical challenges to the character. And the fact that its live action in this case isn't a barrier with the resources they have.
      The source material literally contains all the answers- the comics from the last few decades (Superman's personality/character, tone, humour, challenges/villains, supporting characters, etc.). The problem is that Hollywood refuses to reference any of it meaningfully/treats it like toilet paper, then they find someone who THINKS they know better than the source material ( i.e. Zack Snyder or Singer) and tries to 'reinvent' the character. They overthink and fail instead of just deferring more to the source material and trusting their product like they did with Aquaman. This is why Superman's portrayal in the animated series/movies was much better received …

      WW was considerably depowered compared to the comics. Superman was not. Remember how in JL he kicked the entire league's bottom? Or at the end when he was virtually "playing with his food"? SW demolished the league (WW included), and then comes Superman and effortlessly brushes him away.

I seriously question PJ's ability to helm this franchise after WW 1984 being the second worst (BOP obviously) DCEU film in recent memory. What was she thinking? We can only hope that the third movie in the franchise is up the quality of the first or better. Lord knows I wish Aquaman 2 had been fastracked instead.

Aquaman 2 was fast tracked, the problem is that the director had other projects so they couldn't get it out before 2022. WW3 will most likely take the same amount of time to come out as Aquaman 2 is, 4 years.

Interested in seeing what direction they go in with the 3rd movie. Ww84 had its issues but i am still excited to see more of the character.

I think DC Films is doing a deep disservice to Superman fans while they apparently focus on literally every other league member-it's practically a slap in the face. It literally took them a microsecond to green-light Wonder Woman 3 despite the more mixed reactions. Meanwhile Superman fans have been waiting for years to get even a coherent idea as to whether or not DC films even cares about getting Superman right in a follow up film. Cavill hasn't lost interest and he's already expressed that he wants to do something closer to the comics. The fact is if they actually wanted to do it, a soft reboot with Cavill that corrects previous bonehead mistakes, they could have done it years ago. Hamada has been in the driver's seat for a little over two years now. If he gave a $#it he could have done it or have something to show for it. And no it's not like there is no interest from the audience for this character. Every time there is even a credible whiff that it's happening and the internet explodes. Tired of this BS. Ineffectual, indecisive, backwards management.

I don't really think it's that surprising. He's a white straight male savior figure, all of which are "problematic" at this juncture in time.
Look at the MCU. They basically killed ironman and captain america. Thor will be a girl in the next one. Hawkeye is training a girl replacement. They removed any sense of masculinity from the hulk and before Chadwick passed away the rumor was already circulating that shuri would be the next black panther.
It almost looks like they all are trying to place male superheroes on the back burner. We'll see how that works out for them.

      No I don't believe that. Bruce was already smart but if you hadn't noticed neither bruce or mark ruffalo for that matter exude masculinity. It was all coming from the hulk.

Really well said. I feel exactly the same. Either recast Cavil and reboot the character or keep him and do a course correction, either way just greenlight another Superman movie. Having him benched like this is a disgrace in my opinion.

  Benched is the right word (Kevin Smith used the same analogy) It really is a slap in the face to Superman fans.Nothing is stopping them from making it happen ...(look at how hard they pushed Flash despite MULTIPLE public setbacks...NOTE...Cavill has NOT appeared to choke fans on camera). I think a lot of people want to see a Superman movie with this guy as long as its more fun and it's closer to the comics-look at animated flicks like Unbound,Public Enemies,Death and Return...even the writers of AVENGERS ENDGAME publicly expressed interest. Did ANYONE at DC Films follow up on this? NO ONE?
  DC Films is putting thier heads in the sand ( perhaps hoping Cavill will just go away) but a course corrected fun Superman movie that skews to the books will do a LOT more to restore the franchise than ANY of the peojects they have lined up. Senseless.

    I myself just have completely failed to see why they have utterly neglected the character recently. The majority of all DCEU movies have all gotten sequels greenlit very quickly after the first movie released. I fail to see why WB has no confidence in the Superman character.
    There is so much untapped potential and with the right script that truly understands him and a director with the right vision, the next Superman movie could be one of the greatest comic book movies ever made in my opinion. Cavill is great in the role and just needs another chance to really shine in it and make it his own. Its gotten to the stage now though if they dont want to use Cavill, I'd rather they just recast and be done with it. Superman should be front and centre of the DC movie universe along with WW and Batman. A comic accurate Supes with a really great story and todays special effects with easily stand side by side with Reeves' Superman movie.

So, Warner is now officially insane: trying the same old ____ and hoping for a different outcome. The most interesting thing to come out of Warner was Kevin Tsujihara's talk at USC where he said his Japanese American parents had been locked up during WW2 by Americans. THAT is a movie. These wonder woman BS movies are just that BS

I enjoyed the HBO Max debut stream but WW84 is lackluster in my opinion. The first one was better. WW84 really takes you back to the cheesy 80s. Action sequences were fragmented. The lasso gets a lot more screen time and yes Gal Gadot can fly like Tarzan swinging and wrangling clouds and planes to get around. They better get serious on the next film and get rid of this soft nostalgic bull cr@p.
