The release of Wonder Woman 1984 is finally almost upon us, and the first critical reactions are starting to roll in. It sounds as though the wait will have been worth it.
Here are a few of the first reactions.
Even when someone doesn't like it as much as the first film, they still enjoyed it.
Wonder Woman 1984 will release in theaters and on HBO Max in the U.S. on Dec. 25. Select international locations will see the film released on Dec. 16.

Not terribly excited about this film but I'm always happy to see whenever DC and its movies are succeeding. With WW, Aquaman, Shazam, Joker & now WW84, DC seems to be on a decent streak. Pretty sure Suicide Squad 2 is gonna be a blast & The Batman looks freaking awesome. Good times to be a DC fan.

The # of deaths is only 6% of what you see on the news according to the CDC.
The pandemic is being used to control people. All you have to do is look at CA; MI; and NY to see that.

Dont understand the down votes. There is absolutely misinformation being spread by the media about the virus. The amount of false positive tests alone have hugely inflated the case numbers. There is definitely more going on than meets the eye in my opinion. Having said that i wish everyone well and keep safe.
This is absolutely true. False positives and questionable cycle rates with PCR testing are contributing to the current hysteria and supposed "massive increase" in positive tests in the U.S.
The truth is, more people have probably had COVID than realize. Instead, the media has had an agenda and they've scared everyone silly.

Big Tech benefits the most from the lockdowns. Look at Amazon, for example. The lockdowns are ravaging U.S. small businesses. The only ones gaining from it all are Big Tech and the big box stores.

You get my upvote for preaching some truth. The veil is slowly being removed from this nonsensical hysteria. It's a real shame so many young people have cowered in fear over a virus that the majority of them will beat with little to no problems. For the worst off with comorbidities or other underlying health conditions, it'll be a bad flu.

“The cheese” was not something that made the first film great, it was one of its failures, so that’s not too encouraging...
However, a No Man’s Land type scene and Zimmer’s best score sound promising for sure!
I was sort of on the fence with the direction WW84 had started to take some things, and questioning if I was as excited anymore, but I was gonna go see it on good faith because I love what they've done so far with Gal's version of Diana (and Chris Pine was fantastic in the first one).
... Then I heard Zimmy's music in the new trailer and **** my pants. I'm ready to ride now, if only for that sole reason. lol
Fingers crossed everything else lives up to it.

I’ve been generally looking forward to it, as I hadn’t seen any reason to really doubt it would be at least as good as the first one. I am still curious to see how Kristen Wiig will play a serious role like this, but I reserve judgment till I see it.
Haha, maybe you and I are think of 2 different types of cheese. The only real moments that I would genuinely consider cheesy and thus inadequate were, for instance, when Ludendorff and Dr. Poison laughed maniacally like cartoon villains for no apparent reason after gassing the German war room, and a couple of the painfully cliched lines Ares belted out unnecessarily mid-fight with Diana that just didn’t even seem to fit his motivations or anything.
Perhaps you and they are talking about the humor, like coming from Diana’s unfamiliarity with man’s world (or this time coming from Steve’s unfamiliarity with the 80’s). I don’t have a problem with that, as long as it’s handled realistically. I liked that too.
The moments you list as cheese are no cheesier than several moments in Mos and BvS. I guess cheesy moments cease to be cheesy for you if the colors are dulled?
Jesse Eisenberg overacts annoyingly at times, I could potentially agree to that.

I had actually forgotten about those samples you didn't like, and I guess while they didn't bother me too much in the grander scope of the film, I can see what you mean too.
Ares was definitely under-baked (my biggest gripe with WW1, and a concern with WW2), so maybe those lines could have been applied more powerfully with better rounded context.
WB: "Hey, do you want to see an early preview of WW 1984 and give it a stellar review?"
Critic: "You bet I do. I'm leaning towards a 9/10."
WB: "Great, I'll have the film sent over to you tomorrow."
I'm not sure if critics think like that.
Most critics love trashing movies. They love tearing shit down. That's why they're critics.
But I'm not talking about most critics. There are a ton of people who simply review a movie based on its merits. But you and I will never hear about most of those people. We'll never see their tweets promoted on Twitter. We'll never see Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot retweeting and thanking those critics for their honest reviews (which I saw them doing in another article about these early reactions). And these are the same types of reviewers who end up as "verified" on Rotten Tomatoes with "certified fresh" scores (usually for some reason OTHER than the quality of the film itself) for movies that we know are mediocre at best.
I trust these access media types as much as I trust game reviews from video game "journalists" at Kotaku and the like.

I was talking about more mainstream critics. They're the ones who love trashing movies. They also worry about their reputation among their media cronies. If they overpraise something that turns out to be a piece of shit, they'll lose credibility.
But yes, the media types you mention might actually be working in public relations rather than real film criticism.

I don't mind if I disagree with a reviewer if their opinion is based on what they genuinely think of a film. We're not robots and my opinion is obviously going to differ from someone else's. But when some of these people interject things other than film quality into their reviews, it irks me.
I would be the worst, most frustrating critic ever. Which reminds me of one of my favorite shows from like a decade ago. The critic with Jon Lovitz.
Very excited for the film and hope its great but these comments mean nothing as they have no choice but to give positive responses.
I'm sure this film will be perfectly pleasant, and equally forgettable. The same way most recent DC films and most MCU films are. Not even a bad thing, since they are made to be enjoyed and consumed rather than made for artistic purposes.
Only good thing about this might be that it shows a female friendship in close examination, which a lot of films fail at.

LOL, hardly. It was an adequate but forgettable super hero flick that made several mistakes, such as treating WW1 Germans as though they were evil nazis. It didn't have much in the way of depth at all. But then, BvS is your idea of 'deep' so...

Also yeah the depiction of WWI was a bit more simplistic than it could have been, but actually exploring themes like the inherent morality of mankind is more than most MCU films bother to do at all, are you kidding me? And the love and loss of Steve and Diana was very poignant. A large percentage of the MCU are comedies that rely every more predictably on bathos to get a cheap laugh every other scene at the expense of their own heroes, and without any sort of message of any value.

WW explored themes like 'the inherent morality of mankind" exactly as much as Black Panther explored themes of humanities capacity for violence against themselves or Civil War examined the limits of friendship. And the love and loss of Steve and Diana was forgettable, no more or less greater than any MCU romance.
I get it's important to you to frame BvS as being deeper, better made and "more intellectual" than the average MCU film, but unfortunately quite the opposite is true. One day, when you stop framing your identity by being contrarian, I think you'll realize that as well.

Glad its getting mostly postive comments. However i did take issue with the one that says WW is a great replacement for Superman. WW should not be replacing Supes but compliment him. DC get the finger out and give Cavil his sequel, we need Supes back front and centre were he should be.
He had his chance. The world did not care.
If a more accurate representation of the character was put to film,the world would absolutely care. Superman is an incredible character and has so much potential thsts yet to be realised on film yet. I hope he gets another shot. Just in my opinion.

I actually thought delays would make me more eager to see this film, but it actually did the exact opposite. It's like the late friend who doesn't make it on time while you're hyped with energy, then hours later when the party is dead they finally arrive and you're just kinda like yay, but meh...
of course it will recieve good crits its DC afterall and not some bullshit disneyfied marvel crap
