Zack Snyder has no plans for a director's cut of Man of Steel

As work progresses on Zack Snyder's Justice League, fans are becoming curious if any of his other films may receive an extended cut. It does not appear, however, that Man of Steel will be on that list.

Snyder appeared on the Film Junkee Vodka Stream as part of the "Us United" event and was asked whether or not he felt there would ever be director's cut of Man of Steel. "There are only a few scenes that we deleted… it wasn't anything that I think would change the movie," said Snyder. "That movie is pretty much, it is what it is, and I love it... It's kind of exactly the size that it was, for me, that I wanted it to be."

With the Snyder Cut finally moving forward, and growing chatter around an "Ayer Cut" of Suicide Squad, this is sure to be a question that comes up around every DC film that has been released until we've touched on all of them. We hope that the rest of the answers are closer to the one Snyder is giving here and the directors are all happy with their films.

Of course not, there would be no need.

MoS is perfectly needlessly dark, has editing all over the place, plot points that don't make sense and has a character defined by his love of humanity and empathy engaging in fights that kill hundreds if not thousands of people before brutally snapping the neck of the only other remaining member of his species.

It's already a perfect Zack Snyder movie.

When I first saw your comment, I thought it was funny how the notion contrasts with the thumbnail, with Diana smiling at the little girl there. (I love that moment. Glad we're getting to see things like that.)
However... after that initial reaction, I clicked the video, and after only three seconds played... the feelings I had watching BvS all flooded back. I forgot about everything else and sank into my couch, ready. Just like the theater that day back in 2016.
I remember the effect, and I know this sounds pretentious or whatever, but it's true. I was immediately locked in and understood on a powerful instinctive level what kind of thing I was watching and how I related to the feeling and theory of it. I knew it was made for someone like me, and I let myself sort of fall into the hypnosis of the film. That's something I don't find happening to me very often with movies, and I know BvS isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it had that rare, special pull on me.
I'll never forget that. It was like I was 2 years old again, drawn into the screen as Danny Elfman's Batman theme played and the camera wandered through that shadowy stone maze - as if it were waiting to unveil something deeper to me. A mystery in the dark. Then the camera pulls back to show me the answer... the Bat symbol.
That feeling came back to me during the opening of BvS like it was my destiny, and I remembered that sort of dark, operatic poetry that I fell in love with as a toddler. The atmosphere of the music was a huge part of that.
I remembered how badly I wanted to be Batman. I remembered how that symbol was the answer in the dark.
Appropriately, it was an older Batman, just like I had become older, and it was revisiting his origin. In the form of a dream, just like I would dream. The relative drama of that resonated with me as he floated up into the light.
It's one way in which I think the movie is so loved by some people who relate to aspects of it on a personal or emotional level, and perhaps people who don't relate to it don't see what's so great.
Anyway, regarding the actual video you shared, the music goes so well with the motion that takes place in Zack's style of film work, even down to Superman's hair blowing around in slow motion as he screams, or the camera panning forward to follow the Parademons flying out into the world past the fallen JL HQ, et cetera, for the whole trailer. Amazing.
I recall getting chills the first time we see Superman's cape blowing in MoS, and Zimmer's score was irreplaceable there for the same reason. Just pairs so beautifully with Zack's concepts and his style of visual storytelling. Masterful stuff.
Just like that, I'm more hyped for Junkie's return than ANYTHING ELSE in this project. His music HAS to be in the next trailer. Hallelujah served it's purpose, but it's time for a touch of heavy, dramatic, and epic. :)

  I think you projected a lot on to BvS, and so transformed it in your mind into something it isn't in the real world, which is why you were able to get so much from it. I'm glad you were able to do that.

      No, I don't project. BvS is just objectively bad. It's not even purely because of the stylistic choices or character interpretations, it's just a poorly put together film. There's numerous video essays and text essays explaining why, but you don't consider anything they have to say. Defending the film for you is something that forms your identity, so you are unable to be honest about it, and that's OK :)

      I doubt you watched them, and if you did watch them you didn't understand them. There are one defending BvS stylistic choices, but not the way the film is put together, because gain, that is objectively bad.
      You don't acknowledge it's flaws. You go to great lengths to lie and deny them. You can't even admit the general audience thought the movie was trash or that the Martha scene was poorly done.

Yeah, I'm not delighted by some of these personalities, but I think Zack is just being friendly with fans who are clearly passionate, even if they're not the kind of people I usually enjoy watching.
I like that he's coming down to the fans' level and engaging directly, between this stuff and the live stream watch parties with director commentary.

  Going down to the level of fans seems needy and brings his movie down instead of bringing fans up.
  Glad we share opinions on these personalities. Both the FilmJunkee and Grace are at the very least, annoying.

    Rust can only look at things in a positive light. With Rust, even if the glass is completely empty it's at least half full of air.
    Zack isn't appearing on bigger mediums because no cares about his JL movie. You have to keep in mind the movement pushing for it's release was very, very, very small, easily under 50k people. The background drama made for some juicy news sometimes, but not that it's getting made there isn't much newsworthiness.
    Expect a few cursory interviews after it gets made, if that, and that's it.

And in most timelines Zack would have been removed from any DC projects after MoS ended up being so polarizing, lol. You're so disconnected from reality, it's kind of amusing.     He's celebrating with his fans. WE - including people like Dave, who was a major voice shepherding the movement along - made this movie happen after fighting for 3 years alongside him. This is only appropriate, and is actually quite touching. Not to mention so many of the mainstream media were arch enemies to the movement the whole time...
    Also this is an unprecedented level of fan engagement for a major movie director in general, and that can only be a positive, except for the most cynical kind of person

      And no, very few directors of Zack's level have ever had as much direct, frequent, and intimate of interaction with their fans as Zack is doing.       It wasn't because the fan movement made so much noise, it was because the heads of HBO Max had nothing to do with WB and were free to make their own decisions, and greenlighted Zack's version because they were probably fans. Those people have since been replaced and for good reason. It was always a bad business decision.
      If you think Zack's engagement with his fanbase is something new and unprecedented it's just clear you don't know much about film or other directors in general. Which makes sense because if you had more film knowledge you would be in a better position to understand why BvS is so bad. It really isn't that big a deal at all though and yes it has happened frequently, going back almost 20 years. Here's where you seem to be confused though, in that you think "Zack's level" is significantly higher than it actually is.

      I agree this is unprecedented. I also agree its a good thing in theory. But at this point it seems like Zack is doing it because that's all he has left. Especially from what you are saying it sounds like not a lot of people in the industry is behind him.

      Nah it's not unprecedented. Plenty of directors have been on YouTube shows to promote stuff, especially when there are already successful shows tied to fanbase already established.Normally they do it in conjunction with doing interviews with bigger outlets, but no one big ants to interview him.
      As a director, he's basically in the same group of directors like Uwe Boll. I don't think anyone really takes him seriously.

      THR's released some stuff too, remember. I'm figuring once the actual marketing starts in full is when they'll be going to more major outlets. Though I still wouldn't expect anything more than what your average streaming exclusive would get, that's the other thing to remember about this
      Always taking the most negative possible interpretation of everything is just tiring. I don't think it "seems" that way at all. The only thing it seems like at this point to me is that he is engaging with the community directly as a way of honoring the Snyder Cut movement, which he has been doing since day 1, just not in video form before.
      Also, I am not an avid watcher of Dave's videos, but I feel like I can pretty confidently say he's not anywhere near the level of annoying that YouTubers like AngryJoe are, or within the SC movement, John Aaron Garza is truly insufferable... lol

Cut the last 15 mins of film, have them both fight where will be the future place of the fortress of solitude and then have Martian Manhunter appear and destroy the world builder. The new man of hope saves the world while Martian tells him others will come now. The end.

    The whole movie requires suspending disbelief since it's a superman movie. You can't suspend disbelief for scenes that don't make sense within the fictional world created. That's basically a rule of storytelling, anything is possible so long as it follows the rules of the fiction you create. Maybe next time you want to rush to be defensive, take a few minutes and breathe, and make sure you understand what you re responding to first.👍

Why would anyone think he was going to make a director's cut of Man of Steel? It was clear he made the film he wanted to make. That is evident throughout the entire film. Just because some of us didn't like certain things about it doesn't mean he didn't love everything in his Superman film.
