In the blink of an eye, Wonder Woman 1984 has gone from an indefinite delay to landing a new release date on Dec. 25, 2020.
Mere minutes after a report surfaced of an indefinite delay for Wonder Woman 1984, Warner Bros. has granted the film a Christmas release.
“Patty is an exceptional filmmaker and with Wonder Woman 1984 she has delivered an incredibly dynamic film that moviegoers of all ages around the world will absolutely love,” said Toby Emmerich, Warmer Bros. Motion Picture Group chairman in a statement. “We’re very proud of the film and look forward to bringing it to audiences for the holidays.”
Director Patty Jenkins stated, “First and foremost let me say how much Gal and I love all our devoted Wonder Woman fans around the world, and your excitement for ‘WW84’ couldn’t make us happier or more eager for you to see the movie. Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I’m hopeful you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer. With the new date on Christmas Day, we can’t wait to spend the holidays with you!”
The news of a potential indefinite delay hadn't even cooled yet before this new official date was announced. While this clears the decks somewhat for Tenet, which has been struggling, we do question the Dec. 25 release date slightly. Dune - another Warner Bros. release - is currently scheduled for Dec. 18. The Dune trailer that was released this week did so without a release date, so we would assume that it will soon be announced to move to some time in 2021. We can't imagine a world where Warner Bros. wants to compete with itself.
As with all release dates right now, we recommend you do not consider this one written in stone. But, for the time being, Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 25.
