Batman: The Long Halloween and Justice League heading for animated movies

DC FanDome brought a lot of heat on Saturday, but it seems there were some animated goodness waiting for us on Sunday as well.

IGN held an exclusive DC FanDome panel for Superman: Man of Tomorrow and some news was hiding within.

Batman: Soul of the Dragon will be the first animated release of 2021 and it's bringing a large cast with it. David Giuntoli will voice Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Jai White (Arrow) will voice Ben Turner/Bronze Tiger, Mark Dacascos as Richard Dragon, Kelly Hu as Lady Shiva, James Hong as O-Sensei, and Josh Keaton as Jeffrey Burr.

Justice Society: World War II will be an original story and will release in Spring 2021. No word as of yet as to what the plot or the team lineup will be.

The biggest news by far was that the long-rumored Batman: The Long Halloween animated movie is finally a reality. It will be released as a two-part movie with the first part arriving in Summer 2021 and part two will arrive in Fall 2021.

No word on the voice cast as of yet, but we imagine Warner Bros. will go all out on such a major storyline.

With The Long Halloween finally being adapted, and a new live-action movie on the way, it's going to be a heck of a year for Batman fans in 2021.

You may be forgetting about some Harvey Dent/Two-Face episodes. He was used quite a bit. Second to only the Joker, I think. He went from Harvey Dent with anger issues, to Two-Face crime boss, to developing a third personality as a vigilante.

  Not anymore, as it seems like they're going back to each one being its own thing. Whether or not this has the exact same style as the book remains to be seen though.

  Not anymore. That universe is done with Apokalips war. Now they're going with individual art styles for each film again. Evident from The Man of Tomorrow movie.

yeah timeverse animation is good for standalone movies but for the shared universe it has to be a good one i loved the new 52 animation it just felt good and the superman man of tomorrow animation if they just add more to it i am fine with that but please supes needs to get rid of those stinking red undies i cant stand those things

I would have been a lot more excited for The Long Halloween if not for the way Hush was adapted. Now, I'm not really sure what to expect and whether I should be interested or just plan to skip it.

im kind of want to be excited for this, other part of me is kind of unsure. guess I feel unsure, with how Hush got handled and how quite a lot got left out and the main villian Thomas Elliot hardly had any screen time they diddnt explore how he was connected to Bruce during their childhood which I feel is a very important, crucial part of the Hush story. Hush isnt one I read a lot, just feel if youre going to adapt try to stay mostly true to the source material keep as much or add as much as you can, maybe with Long Halloween they might try to be more faithful to Long Halloween, maybe. Kevin Conroy or Greenwood my picks to voice Bruce/Batman

I think it would have been more interesting without Batman, but they probably couldn't sell a movie like that.
The only real angle with that Shang-Chi movie Marvel is pushing is the Asian representation side, and even then, I'm not sure how many tickets it will sell.

They may have been at one point, but since he tends to beat them when he has to when the get matched up, these days I would say the differences is negligible and varies.

  Shiva one shotted Bruce in Tec in recent years, Turner in fun sparring match easily defeated Bruce during King's run and Dragon hasn't been seen in years. Bruce is great but he doesn't grace the top 5 fighters of DC something all 3 of these do.

      Last time i saw Bats vs Shiva in a recent comic was Tec around 3 years back and she one shotted him, Turner kicked his ass in King's run as well. Feel free to list me these recent stories though, i'm being serious here as i would like to read them as i must have missed them.

      Well here's the problem, I don't think I can name specific instances. I remember Bruce running into them and holding his own, and to me it's seemed for a while now that he is absolutely at their level (which makes sense given how he is continually pushing himself and getting active experience from all kinds of criminals, keeping reflexes up, etc). I specifically remember an encounter with Shiva where it was equal.
      You are reasonably asking for sources but I don't think I can name any. I can't remember the storylines or even series that I am thinking of. So if you wan't to dismiss what I've said I completely understand and think that's reasonable. If I think of something (and I hope it will come to me because it's bugging me now) I will reply again.

Finally a JSA movie (why the hell did it took them this long???)
BTW, instead of repeating the same stories with the Justice League members (Batman origin,Superman origin...) they could easily do a series of animated movies\a TV show featuring the JSA members. (I like the Stargirl show fine, but honestly they could do a lot more with animation)

Also, I assume that's a mistake in the article title and you meant to write Justice Society instead of Justice League.

2021 is without a doubt the year of Batman. 3 animated movies, an AAA game, a live action movie, and possibly a comic mini series by Scott Snyder featuring Grayson behind the mask.

It's a good time to be a Batman fan, and that is purely because of Reeve's film. The rest of DC still has a lot of course correcting to do.

    That's true, I forgot about the animated movies, they do look promising after the horrid animated universe that just finished. I don't care much for the game but agree it looks good for those who it will appeal to.
    It would be nice if they could get their comics, movies and TV shows back on track or improved, or both.

      I for one loved the animated DCEU and i'm kinda bummed that it's over now as I really got attached to those versions of the characters and i'm kinda let down that they aren't going interconnected animated films anymore.

      Interconnected films would be cool, but for most people the DCAMU was a significant drop in quality from the films DC was producing before, and the animation style was not populr with most. During the entire tenure of the DCAMU, nothing came close to UtRH, Crisis on Two Earths, Miller adaptations, etc. Even the Man of Tomorrow movie was radically better.

      I wouldn't say most people, quite a few people really liked it, it certainly wasn't as polarizing as the live-action Snyderverse at least.
      I thought Batman Bad Blood was amazing.

    LOL. I did forget TLH, but the rest is meh. WW84 isn't going to be anything amazing, TSS will be a fun popcorn flick, and as we all know (well, at least DC fans vs Snyder fans know) ZLJL is going to be hot garbage, more disappointing than his trailer was, lol.
    I'll always be a fan of DC, which is why I hold them to a high standard. When you're a fan of an edgelord director who dabbles in DC stuff, it's easy to pretend to be a fan and just say everything is amazing. You're tongue must be so incredible brown.
    At best, even if WW84 is great, it's an 'OK' time to be a DC fan. Not a great time.

If they could do the source material respect - as in, make it into a limited mini-series - then I'd be g'd up for THE LONG HALLOWEEN. THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS animate film is incredible because they broke it into two parts with no half measures. I hope this isn't going to be another weak, shallow dive adaptation like HUSH.
