CW delays new season to 2021, Arrowverse crossover to be 'smaller'

While countries may slowly be lifting coronavirus restrictions, film and television productions still have a long way to go. That's clearly evident in the new schedule released by The CW for the upcoming season.

On Wednesday, The CW released its 2020/2021 television season schedule, and it's very much about 2021. When the fall season rolls around, the only returning hour-long drama will be the final episodes of Supernatural. The series had more episodes shot than have been shown so far, and they are only awaiting some post-production work.

The fall will also be where The CW will run its recently acquired Swamp Thing season it purchased from DC Universe.

FOURTH QUARTER

Monday

8 p.m.: Whose Line Is It Anyway?
8:30 p.m.: Whose Line Is It Anyway?
9 p.m.: Penn & Teller: Fool Us

Tuesday

8 p.m.: Swamp Thing
9 p.m.: Tell Me A Story

Wednesday

8 p.m.: Two Sentence Horror Stories
8:30 p.m.: Dead Pixels
9 p.m. Coroner

Thursday

8 p.m.: Supernatural
9 p.m.: The Outpost

Friday

8 p.m.: World’s Funniest Animals
8:30 p.m.: World’s Funniest Animals
9 p.m.: Penn & Teller: Fool Us (encores)

Sunday

8 p.m.: Masters of Illusion
8:30 p.m.: Masters of Illusion
9 p.m.: Pandora

Once 2021 finally rolls around, all of the Arrowverse shows will return and they will be joined by Superman & Lois.

This reconfigured airing of shows will also lead to a much smaller DC crossover than we saw with Crisis on Infinite Earths. The only two shows to be involved will be Superman & Lois and Batwoman.

It's also worth noting that Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl won't be back until midseason 2021, which will put about a solid year in between the finales and premieres. This delay definitely sucks, but I get why they had to do it

I just want Warners to take their properties away from CW and put them where they belong — the DCU.

DCU isn't any better.Titans is straight up garbage.Legends of tomorrow is the only ongoing good DC tv show.

  I disagree, Titans is by no means a masterpiece but it's Citizen Kane compared to Batwoman and the other CW shows.

    That I disagree. Batwoman had atleast a couple of excellent episodes. Titans has been a mess.

    Visually Titans is superior but in terms of plot it's an incoherent mess. CW can be cheesy but at least their plot lines are resolved and generally make sense.

      I managed to follow the titans plot easily enough. The CW shows just have me bored or rolling my eyes.
      I don’t read any of the comics, so i have no idea which show is considered faithful or not, but in terms of acting, writing, and production values I give the prize to Titans.
      I never find the CW plots making any sense.
      I don’t know how we are so apart on this :)

    I'm sure that after 8 years they know what's best for their brand. Also, if they moved them to HBO Max or whatever it would be the same people working on them, so nothing would change about the "quality". The problem is not The CW, it's the people working on the shows.

      What exactly is all this evidence? You haven't actually enlightened us on how shutting down their profitable TV station would be good for their brand. How much brand value do you even think DCU is even generating? It's a niche streaming service and way less people have access to it compared to a TV station right now. If you want brand quality just make the shows better, it isn't worth squat to move them from one place to another. Sure, bigger budgets would help, but the first seasons of Arrow and The Flash prove the problem with the shows isn't the budgets, but the writing.
      By the way, The CW shows helped popularize television superheroes. Sure, they degraded in quality over the years, but The CW was a good promoter for the business. Less popular super heroes became popular because of them.

  I don't know, so that the properties don't become even bigger laughingstocks. Preserving good image is important. Short term profit is not worth tanking your long term prospects.

Truth be told, the Supergirl show disrespected Superman from the get go. I remember when I actually tried to watch the first season, there were some real eye-rolling moments, involving him.

  They literally jump at any chance they get to humiliate and degrade Superman.
  Tyler Hoechlin's version has literally never won a single fight he's been in - He got beaten by Supergirl in the Season 2 finale and then sung her praises about how she's so much better than him and Earth's true protector. He got the crap kicked out of him by Deagan in the first crossover he appeared in. He couldn't beat Kingdom Come Superman in the Crisis crossover and the Anti Monitor of course took him out of commission later on.
  It's pathetic.

It’s good the cw shows are shortened. Their main problem is the story drags on too long and they spin their wheels. They should have done this from the beginning.
