I started reading comics in 2013, in the lead-up to Man of Steel. I had always liked super heroes. I had always really liked Batman. But, even as a child, that never led to reading comics. Other than the copy of Spider-Man Versus Wolverine I received from a cousin, I didn't really have anything to do with the medium.
I can't remember if I found Batman News before I started reading or not, but one thing's for sure: this became my favorite place to hang out on the web once I discovered the Comics section. The reviews were deep, thoughtful, and insightful. These people cared about Batman, and they cared about comics—if a story was terrible, you'd know it, and if it was transcendent, you'd know that, too. I was a part of the community for a few years before Andrew put out the call for new writers.
Now, four years and 330-some reviews later, I'm hanging it up. I'll still be around in the comments from time to time, and I'll still write articles on Toy Fair and publish some merch reviews; but, my time as a regular voice in the Batman News Comics section has come to an end. As many of you know, Jay and I started a website and podcast back in 2018, and I'm ready to put more time into that.
I'm grateful for my time here. Comics Now was born out of my work at Batman News, and the friendships I forged with Jay and Andrew. I've had the opportunity to meet and talk to a lot of really cool people in the industry. I've written some reviews that I'm really proud of. I've learned from and been sharpened by readers who've commented—the kind ones and the not-so-kind ones!
I won't belabor the point. All good things must come to an end, and while there are indeed other good things on the horizon, I will treasure the memory of my time here. It's been a blast.
