DC celebrates the 80th anniversary of Robin

It may be difficult to believe, but Robin has now hit his 80th anniversary.

Debuting in Detective Comics #38, Dick Grayson became Batman's colorful sidekick in the April 1940 cover-dated issue.

While we have not seen the fanfare surrounding his big anniversary as we did with Batman, it's still a noteworthy date to be celebrated. Not just for Dick Grayson who has had such an impact in the overall DC Universe, but all of the others that have picked up the mantle.

Can you imagine what a different road we would have taken if Jason Todd had never become Robin? His death wasn't just a milestone for Batman, but for the industry as a whole. And while we all enjoy his role in the stories of today, the length of time he remained dead was significant and had a major impact on how Batman viewed his obsession with taking on crime.

From being a circus kid to a girl in the future who gives Bruce Wayne back a bit of his humanity, the mantle of Robin has been an important one, and we look forward to years more of stories of the character.

It's kinda crazy to think that Robin debuted only one year after Batman and two years after Superman, making him one of the oldest of the superhero characters.
It's a bummer WB decided to go forward with a Birds of Prey movie while the Nightwing film faded into the ether of development hell land.

I don’t like Robin or any of the Bat-family.
I prefer the dark knight solo.
