Harley Quinn Birds of Prey

You aren't imagining things, theater chains are changing the title of the Birds of Prey movie to Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey.

Following a weaker than expected opening weekend, it seems Warner Bros. has come up with an idea of how to change things up slightly. Instead of simply being called Birds of Prey, or Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, it is now known as Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey.

It would seem this is definitely a marketing move to try to change the perception of the film a bit. With everyone shortening the title to "Birds of Prey," it's possible that some people simply didn't know it was the same character from Suicide Squad.

So far the changes are being found on AMC, Cinemark, and Regal theater chains. As of this writing, Fandango and Atom Tickets are still listing its full original title.

Will it make a difference in the ticket sales? We'll just have to wait and see what happens this weekend.

This is a genuinely good movie. WB just fucked up the marketing. 80+% and certified fresh. They did the smart thing and changed the theatrical name only and it's gonna work. This is gonna do good now. Even if it does Shazam numbers it'll be a hit. Second week numbers for this movie are gonna be twice as higher than opening which never happens, but that's hot much of a diff this title is gonna make.

  theres a lot to watch out for now, next week is valentines day and considering this is 1.) a relationship movie and 2.) a newly (better)titled movie, this could help the box office or have no effect whatsoever. We'll just have to wait and see

    You sure? Opening weekend was 51% female according to Box Office Mojo.
    It's still more even than most CBMs that tend to be 60% male, proving that guys are indeed more interested in watching an all female team up CBM than girls are interested in watching a mostly male CBM.

        Yeah, but Snyder was trying to tell us to grow up (as he actually did at that convention). Ideal situations are only in fairy tales, sometimes you have to take the hard decisions. He was going for a more grounded approach and I understand that people didn't like that, but going all the way to hate him for his choice, that I don't understand.

        I simply didn't like that choice to kill Zod. There should've been a way to take him out before Zod could've tried to kill that family. Like a small ongoing battle of Supes trying to control the back and wrapping his arm around his throat to attempt to choke him. I say this as a BJJ practitioner lol.

        My problem isn't with the 'killing Zod as a desperate last measure' part, but with the 'Superman as a grim miserable bore whose father's teachings were he should let people die' part. That's not Superman. Change his skin color, his costume, whatever, but don't change the character's heart.

        I love Henry Cavill as superman. I sincerely hope he gets more chances to play the role. But making Superman a guy who says "the bat is dead. Bury it" isn't superman. He's SUPPOSED to be happy and upbeat. Superman in Justice League was the closest to how he should be done, and ironically that was purely through the non-snyder reshoots.

        Superman has never been solely 'happy and upbeat'. He's often very serious, and often displays firm authority. And he does experience disillusionment and even tragedy.
        His most beloved, well-received comics have him heavily weighing power, morality, humanity, and responsibility.
        Superman finding hope and optimism in the face of darkness is what makes him a true hero, not being 'happy and upbeat'.

        I recommend you read something like All-star Superman to see the best of the character. Superman does feel tragedy and heartache and pain because he has the heart of a human. But the ability to rise above that makes him iconic. That notion is there at the sidelines in Snyder's work, but they never embrace it.
        Superman goes through hell in MOS and what is his reward? He's a hapless puppet in BvS, relentlessly dealing with Batman and then abruptly killed at the climax. Even if some mythical Snyder cut exists, there was no time in Justice League to give superman a proper showing.

        I've read All-Star Superman and love it (haven't seen the animated version yet).
        I do agree that Henry's Superman never quite 'got there', fully into the light, but I feel like we were building toward it in a meaningful way, and some things got rushed in the process before eventually his story arc got the axe before he could fully blossom as a character.
        There are things I'd do differently, but I still see Superman as someone who carries a heavy weight, too, and it isn't always happy, but ultimately he comes through. I was enjoying what we were getting, albeit with a little patience for the rest hopefully to come.
        Peace on Earth is a favorite of mine too, if you've read that one. Shorty but a goody, with Paul Dini and Alex Ross. :)
        The versions I grew up with the most prominently were Chris Reeve, the old Fleischer cartoons (still amazing), and the 90s Animated Series (along with the JL cartoon at that time).

        I haven't read Peace on Earth but if it's by Dini it must be great.
        I didn't have a huge issue with MOS at the time, because the promise was kind of "okay, he's sad now for good reason, and he was forced to kill, but now he'll learn from that an be the proper superman". Honestly, giving Superman some human flaws is what makes him a great character.
        But BvS really screwed him. He's an asshole for little to no reason. He's never allowed to speak or defend himself or even communicate with the people he saves (at least, Snyder never shows it). Plus he's given so much tiring Jesus imagery that it becomes a parody. You can tell that Snyder relates far better to a character like Batman.
        Cavill HAS a great superman in him! He's charismatic, loves the character and he looks so perfect.
        It's understandable that he and Superman and basically collateral damage from the fallout over JL flopping, but I do sincerely hope Cavill gets another shot at the character.

        I think that 3 movies is way too long just to see a character act like himself. Instead of killing supes in BvS, they shouldve showed him "fully into the light" towards the end, which would've been a perfect set up for JL by getting a real superman thats ready to lead.

        I agree - although I feel like they could have kept his death while still doing that, making the death more impactful and special.
        I think he did find a significant amount of light in MoS, but BvS challenged his sense of direction very early after he found his footing as a hero -- which I guess is the most likely time you'd question yourself, but still, it was too soon for the audience to get to know and love him.
        Maybe BvS should have ended with Lex on the run and it could have had a World's Finest sequel that had Batman and Superman becoming proper bros and chasing him down, and then we could get into the Doomsday stuff with a lot more development time.
        Honestly, it all just needed more time to breathe and I reckon WB was in a panicked hurry because of Marvel. I'm actually properly mad about JL.

        No. God bless Cavill, he did the best he could with a part that was awfully written for him, but Superman should not be someone who is feeling miserable and acting either cold or angry most of the time. The only two scenes where I felt Cavill could really act like Superman were the recordings from the start of Justice League and the stinger where he races Flash.

        I feel like if you read literally any comic ever you'd see how a dark approach to superman never works. The guy literally wears bright blue. You can make Batman as gritty as you want (so long as he doesn't kill). I'm not making a marvel comparison, I'm just saying Snyder's approach doesn't work if everything is gritty. I'll give him credit for wonder woman, even though it was Jenkins who did most of the work, but WW was handled well by Snyder.

        A comic like JLA can afford to tell a story about Darkseid mind controlling superman because they did the effort to show him as pure and good hero first. Snyder started incorrectly then never fixed his mistake (BvS could easily given a logical character shift after MOS to see how the ordeals he underwent made him a positive hero but instead they just doubled down on the worst parts of MOS)

        Story wise, yes superman had to kill Zod to save that family.
        Putting Superman into that position by contriving a way to make superman kill is complete lunacy. Superman inspires people. Kids love superman. Women love him. Everyone loves him. He's not Batman, an amazing hero but one who hides in the dark. Superman smiles, saves a cat out of a tree and punches a Brainiac robot into the sun.
        The opening of JL got it right when kids were making videos about superman, and Cavill made it work, but Snyder put literally no effort into allowing his superman to even learn from the of MOS. You literally have to watch the extended cut of BvS to see the majority of Superman footage.
        Snyder never got superman. And that's fine! He shouldn't have to. But it was a critical error to put a guy who doesn't get superman in charge of the character for three movies and the loss of Henry Cavill is our punishment.

      If you completely remove the comic book elements from this movie it works just as good an any other action film ppl shill out hundreds of dollars for. This isn't a bad movie, Ya'll just cant look past the fact that it's inaccurate to certain characters. Funny considering ppl on this site loved Crisis yet Arrow has been shitting on it's characters since day one. Different portrayals of characters are allowed.

A.) Stinks of desperation and won't help anything.
B.) Is too little, too late.

    RT score % means nothing, as the % is affected not by the actual scores but if the review is positive or negative, however even this system is flawed as I've seen several points 6/10 reviews go towards positive and others toward negative.

      Phoenix was acclaimed yes, but the Joker movie received only mediocre reviews and was certainly nowhere near as acclaimed as The Dark Knight, Superman, Wonder Woman, Iron Man, Avengers, Winter Soldier, X2, Spider-Man 2, DOFP, Logan, Black Panther etc.
      Phoenix is the one thing that stands out about the Joker movie. Thats whats getting the praise and awards. But as a movie itself and especially as a Joker or comic book movie it's actually a disconnected mess.

well that title is far more fitting anyway. I don't care how fun this movie is, it is not and has never been a Birds of Prey movie. It's a Harley Quinn movie with some BoP related characters as guest stars. Plain and simple. They should have just marketed it as a Harley movie from the start instead of bullshitting people.

        "Popular enough" wasn't isn't exactly the same as profitable. Also the JL is a concept that shouldn't narratively fall on the shoulders of the trinity, there are times when they're busy or in disposed that the JL should be able to uphold the ideals.

i enjoyed the movie but I do think they really messed up by not having Catwoman and Poison Ivy in there with HQ instead of BoP. That would have a been gold mine.
Plus you still could have had BoP make an entrance in the 3rd act to help set up their movie. but it should have be CW and PI. so much potential wasted

      Agreed! But the Gotham City Sirens is an underutilized property even in the comics. All three of them are rarely ever together in comics. The whole it doesn't matter, just pair Harley up with anybody, and everybody will love it mentality, that both WB and DC seem to have.

        280m plus is probably the break even number. The budget for BoP after reshoots is 97m(7m more than shazam), and thats without marketing, which is probably at least 100m(its probably way more like 125m. I think it needs 300m to start generating profit.

So, I knew I was not going to like the film from an adaptation perspective, but at least I thought I was going to have a good time with it. Everyone was praising it for its entertainment value, but... that wasn't there for me. Boring first act, boring second act and just plain boring ending. The most interesting character was Huntress (and the best adapted) and she has like 5 minutes of screentime. Then, the other good one was Black Mask, until you found out he's just a mysoginist piece of shirt just because.
I don't know, this has less to do with the source material than "Joker", at least that one had the spirit of the character all over the place. Also, Harley doesn't work without the Joker, and you can't tell the story of a couple breaking-up without one of the parts. And what they did to Cassandra, OMG, she just had the name and nothing, NOTHING, else.
DC had a good trend until now (Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam!, Joker), with ups and downs, but this one was just bad.

    Not everything that has a "good seller" comic book series translates the same way to another medium. Also, the Harley Quinn title sold between 23k and 27k last year, it's not amazing. Just saying that, if you're going to adapt her to the big screen, it's best to start with her good stories a.k.a. those with the Joker in it.

      Harley has amassed a huge fanbase precisely because she became a character of her own away from Joker. That is key to her character now. Besides not selling a ton of comics does not mean "she only works with Joker" That is just plain bullshit.
      She works perfectly with the Suicide Squad and has so for many years. She works greatly with the Sirens. I might agree that she does not work so well on her own and needs an ensemble to shine but she has worked incredibly well without Joker for years now. She is now more popular and iconic then she has ever been when she was with Joker.

        Ok, perfect, but she didn't work at all in this film, with this ensemble. Here she was just annoying, always talking about the Joker, but without him. She didn't have any character as a counterpoint to balance his "crazyness", and she's no Deadpool. But maybe you're right, I don't read the Suicide Squad comics since like 2011 or 2012 because I find them boring, so I go with the Harley I like (meaning, the one from Batman: The Animated Series).
        Margot does a good job portaying her, I concede that, but beyond that, is cringey, especially in a Gotham so... Gotham-less, without any soul. It never felt like the DC Universe, sincerely.

        Batman TAS Harley is too cheesy and kid friendly to me. I prefer Harley in the Arkham games, animated movies and the Suicide Squad comics. And Margots Harley is clearly a pitch perfect adaptation of new 52 and beyond Harley.

        I found BTAS Harley, while cute, to be sympathetic and full of heart, even if she makes mistakes.
        Arkham Harley is just obnoxious eye candy. Her behavior and appearance are far cheesier. The nurse outfit and the goth stripper look scream of the worst kind of cheese - the kind designed to make teenagers tight in the pants. I'll take 'kid-friendly' over that kind of cringe marketing.
        The only version I've found enjoyment from in recent times is Injustice, and only key moments.

  No, sincerely, I don't recommend it, even if you're a comic book fan or DC fan. I watch all superhero films in theater, or at least I try, but this one made me regret to pay for it. But I don't know, don't go only with my opinion. I say the same about Spider-Man: Far From Home, for example, so maybe you agree, maybe you don't.

      I'm not a Spider-Man fan and I don't care too much about that character, but I prefer "Spider-Man", "Spider-Man 2" and "Into the Spider-Verse". At least those movies had plots about Spider-Man/being Spider-Man and not about Iron Man/not being Iron Man. I mean, Mysterio didn't have ANY problem with Peter until the third act, that was just weird. It's like you could have plotted that villain against any of the MCU heroes and would've been exactly the same conflict.

        Spider-Man (2002) is such a cheesy movie. It was groundbreaking back then but today its really not a good Spidey movie. I always hated Maguire in the role, he just never was Spider-Man. He was crying all the time and made Peter into some emo dude. That lovestory with MJ was so cringey. Dunst was really really bad as MJ, nothing like the comics character at all. None of the fire and spunk. And Maguire as Peter was just unrecognitzable as well. Peter in the comics is witty, super intelligent and a total science nerd. Spideys constant quips and wisecracks which are his number one trademark ? Completely absent.
        And don't get me started on this ridiculous Green Goblin suit. The greatest Spidey villain of all time and they turn him into a Power Rangers level cheesefest. The action is kinda lame too by todays standards.
        I will never understand how people can still hold this movie in such high regard. I have been reading Spidey for almost 30 years now and that first movie just never captured those characters at all.
        Now Spider-Man 2 was much much better mainly because of Alfred Molinas brilliant Dock Ock, even though Maguire and Dunst still sucked as Peter and MJ and were nothing like their comics versions. But at least the movie looked fantastic.
        Still Far From Home had by far the most comics accurate portrayal of Spider-Man both as character and superhero and to me that is far more important then wether or not the movie was about Iron Mans legacy.

  Harley Quinn was the highlight in this and it’s not even close. If anything Huntress was terrible she was portrayed as awkward and uncomfortable, her suit was crap too. She was pointless to the story.

Haha brilliant, the film is flopping so everyone is panicking. This should have been called Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey. This won't help much or at all as name changes rarely do, fact is the R-Rating killed it to be honest and this proves people didn't like SS despite showing up for it.

    It kinda does. You can do cross-study, and you'll quickly find out that sequels to the loved movies open big, whereas sequels to the maligned movies bomb out of the gate. The most recent example that comes to mind is Ninja Turtles.

        Saying that this movie failed because of SS is completely false. SS had very good legs throughout its run, even better legs than civil war, which proved that the audience enjoyed the movie. Harley being one of highlights should've helped BoP even more if anything. I can guarantee you that James Gunn SS will be a box office success even though it will share the same name and some characters of Ayers SS.

        No, it didn't. It plummeted in the second weekend almost as badly as BvS. Another thing to remember is that a somewhat successful movie doesnt mean it's well liked. It was an event summer movie with insane promotion and DC hasn't yet lost all of it's good faith.
        As to the other details, look at the damn design. Everything is an attempt at a realistic gangster street vibe.

        Most of the g.a liked the movie tbh, thats how it maintained its strong box office hold despite having a 67% drop on its second weekend. There was alot of repeated viewings.

        It was leggier because it had no competition for the entire month of August. Or July.. don't remember exactly. Whatever people may have thought about it then, as the dust settles, they started to recognize just how big of a turd it was.

        A movie doesnt get repeated viewings due to lack of competition. It had a strong hold throughout its entire run because the g.a enjoyed it. They were multiple articles on this very subject while the movie was still in theaters back in 2016.

        SS done really well despite everyone saying how bad it was and now a sequel/spin off happens with the most popular character from it, that should be instant money yet that hasn't happened, that points to audiences not wanting to anything else from the SS world.

      BvS didnt flop but it wasnt a financial success, its box office office was pretty disappointing with a huge second weekend drop. If it wasn't for its huge ww opening weekend of 420m, it would've flopped hard. Also, bvs didnt make over 900m, more like 873m.

        I'd argue the biggest failure of BvS was it poisoned the well for the DCEU as a whole. Wonder Woman, Shazam and Aquaman succeeded DESPITE BvS, and Joker was its wholly own thing.

What was wrong with "Harley Quinn & the Birds of Prey".
But really I hope next week it gets changed to "Gotham City Sirens"
I still really sorry for which ever guy in the comic department the movie creaters went to and asked for a list of Harley Quinn + Birds of Prey comics. I'm sure the comic guy asked them to clarify surely they meant the Gotham City Sirens. It was at that point the movie guys realized they messed up, and hoped the movie would just do well and no one would realize.
