Wonder Woman 1984, Birds of Prey among most anticipated movies poll

A recent poll conducted by Fandango of 2,000 Millenials that used the service during Dec. has revealed what films they are anticipating in 2020. Wonder Woman 1984 and Birds of Prey are both looking like they will fair well.

As 2019 draws to a close, we're heading into an increasingly heavy release schedule of DC films. 2020 will be the last year for some time that only sees two DC films, but it looks as though both will be set for some success.

In the top 10 most anticipated films, Wonder Woman 1984 came out on top, and Birds of Prey made the list in seventh place.

“As we head into the next decade, the new cinematic offerings look promising, with inspiring stories and new definitions of the word ‘hero,'” Fandango correspondent Nikki Novak said in a statement. “Adventure-seeking fans can’t wait for the kick-ass leads of ‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ ‘Black Widow,’ and ‘Mulan’ — all films directed by women — to command the big screen. And with invigorating, fresh fare like Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ‘In the Heights,’ Marvel’s ‘Eternals’ and Pixar’s ‘Soul,’ the 2020 box office will offer a cornucopia of welcome surprises.”

With DC having a very full slate coming up, getting the brand back in front of viewers is essential, and it appears that 2020 will do just that.

Birds of Prey hits theaters on Feb. 7, 2020, and Wonder Woman 1984 will release on June 5, 2020.

    This is just a single poll.Despite that, Black Widow being second speaks volumes.Almost half of Wonder Woman box office in 2017 was from US and Canada.Black Widow might lose domestically to Wonder Woman 1984 but it will rule international box office.

      I mean can we really trust polls to see what film is going to make more than the other film. It's all just opinions. Ik your poll is most anticipated and not which will make more but still. I really do think Black Widow will be the highest grossing 2020 film but I would be shocked if it's not.       And that will make BW the highest grossing 2020 movie? Also I just realized, people devour the theaters whenever there is a superhero team up film at play. I mean Justice League got $657 million (Shouldve gotten more), Suicide Squad got $746 million, BvS got $873 million, GotG got $772 million, GotG2 got $863 million, Civil War got $1.1 billion, Avengers 4 got $1.4 billion, Avengers 1 got $1.5 billion, Avengers 3 got $2 billion, and Avengers 4 got almost $2.8 (Highest grossing film ever). I'm not mentioning the X Men films but there are still those. Can we really expect The Eternals to be the highest grossing movie when it has giant CGI sentinels, a great cast, and a superhero team up film. Every Marvel film in 2019 got a billion dollars at least and this could move forward with BW and The Eternals. Eternals could make a hella lot of money, maybe more than any other 2020 film including Black Widow.

Well, we're talking about a Doberman (Wonder Woman) versus a Pinscher (Black Widow). She may not be bigger than Batman or Superman, but Wonder Woman is still a huge character. Black Widow is a cool, but come on, there's no competition here.

    Yeah, I understand that, but WoWo's hype is earned. Maybe the hype for Black Widow went down when she died. It will still probably make big bucks, it has the Marvel tag on it, so people will go see it. What I don't get is the hype for Eternals. Now, I'm going to come off a bit ignorant here about the Eternals, but I don't know much about them, so I assume may other people don't. Like are there really that many people knowledgeable on the subject or is it just the Marvel tag again? What do you think?

      I dont know shit about them either but given that the movie is full of huge CGI sentinels, a big great cast, and that every 2019 Marvel film got $1 billion, this movie could earn real high bucks along with Black Widow. Hell both of them have a good chance for a billion (BW specifically). If Eternals doesnt make a billion then itll get really high numbers like Thor Ragnarok or Spiderman Homecoming. I remember I was in the theater with my family watching a movie in 2013 and then we saw a trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy. My brother and I were like "Who the hell are they? They aren't Marvel." Back then I didnt know Marvel that well. Only the REALLY recognizable heroes. And look what that film got ($772 million) along with the sequel ($863 million). The worst this film will do is Doctor Strange numbers and the best is probably TDKR numbers.

I really do hope that WW84 gets to a billion. If it does make a billion it will end its theatrical run close to Joker. But with Black Widow being only a month before it, that could reduce the opening weekend for WW84. Best case scenario is that it makes a billion and worse case is that it makes Justice League and MoS numbers.

  Tenet comes out 6 weeks after WW84 so its box office numbers would be getting real low by then and it wouldnt really matter how much Tenet makes. But Top Gun Maverick, it's going to kill WW84 it only comes out 3 weeks after it. God damn Black Widow and Top Gun Maverick, ruining all of Wonder Woman 1984's fun.

      Ik WW84 is huge and will make a huge opening weekend. But a film like Black Widow (A long awaited 10 year film that is Johansson's 10th MCU movie) will blow up the box office. People like us in the website probably wont see it, but the world will devour the theater and get the film weekend numbers like Civil War of Black Panther. Now there are re other films like FaF9, Soul, and Artemis Fowl that can kind of hurt the film. WW84 will be that movie where everyone sees the first and then moves away from the sequel (Just like IT and IT CHAPTER 2). So the movie needs all the money it can get.

      It's going to get less than TLJ and it can every once and a while. It can have Suicide Squad have $746 million despite the critics and audiences poor opinions about it and have Endgame at $2.798 with the great word of mouth from audiences and critics.

      There are a few awards it could win but yeah VFX is the lead award that it could win. But from some of the other films from this year, I think that the award will go to other films like The Lion King, The Irishman, Ford v Ferarri, hell even Cats.

I'm actually quite looking forward to Mulan, i like they are ditching the music and doing a copy and paste like every other live action adaption. WW84 and Black Widow are my most hyped films though.

Edit: Completely forgot about Tenet so yeah that's my most hyped film then WW84 and Black Widow.

Mulan was actually one of my favorite Disney movies growing up, but something about this new one feels off. I liked how they portrayed Mulan in the animated film, even if it wasn't entirely true to the original story.

  It won't beat the animated version but i like they are doing they're own thing, the problem with films like The Lion King and Jungle Book is they are near shot for shot recreated to the point i would just rather watch the original animated version, this Mulan though feels more like an reimagining of the animated film rather then just a copy of it.

    I'm not asking for shot for shot remakes, but I would have preferred they keep the "spirit" of the original movie intact. I mean, they clearly used the original Mulan theme in the second trailer to pander to our nostalgia but at the same time it feels radically different.
    What I loved about the animated movie is that Mulan never set out to "prove a point". She did what she did for her family and country and NEVER made it about her. That's a powerful message of selflessness and humility that I think everyone can look up to. But the first trailer kinda went for the "I want to prove women can do it too" approach, if I remember correctly. I just don't care for that message at all because it's not timeless and universal. It feels very "2019/2020" if you know what I mean. The 2nd trailer took the more "selfless" approach, which I liked, but everything just seems wrong, I don't know why. Maybe it's because it's "too Eastern" in terms of the filmmaking approach (exaggerated action and physics). I guess because I'm more passionate about this remake than other Disney movies, I care more and have higher standards. The cinematography and character designs are also not what I would've gone for.

      Because it's a niche thing and since they're adopting the American version, it doesn't make sense and won't cater to worldwide audiences the same way, and I doubt it will cater to Chinese audiences because they all speak English. If they care so much about "celebrating a culture", they would have respected the number one feature of any culture: LANGUAGE.

      Well I mean catering to certain audiences shouldn’t be the number one goal in making art, but I don’t think a little Kung fu movie physics is gonna turn off as many audience members as an all-Chinese film would. As long as it’s not too overdone, those kinds of fights can actually be pretty cool

How is Tenet not #1?
I am really starting to hate this ridiculous over saturated comic book movie world.and the obsessive brainless fans that want more and more. Now Marvel needs to make the eternals simply to justify why there are going to be so many superheros and mutants on one god damn planet. Not to mention their choice to have no true villains going forward.

As far as WW84, because it was completed over a year ago, it had better be amazing. So far for me it looks disappointing.

    You will find people prefer going to see big event movies at the cinema with the more lower stakes ones on Netflix or whatever. Tenet will do very well, Nolan's name is like QT with audiences who will watch anything he makes. I agree i wish films like 1917 would do better but people would rather watch that on a streaming service and watch something bigger like Star Wars on the cinema, tickets prices aren't cheap so people want the most bang for their buck.

      Netflix killed cinema's, why pay god knows what for a ticket when you can go on Netflix to watch whatever on your big TV. If it wasn't Disney films it would be something else, got to remember CBM are popular because they can appeal to almost anyone as you can do a lot with them and you have that built in audience with fans like us, this year both Avengers Endgame and Joker are up there with the highest grossing films and while both are CBM both also couldn't be more different. I mean really CBM have always been popular when the makers actually bother, Superman The Movie was huge as was Batman 1989, Raimi's Spider-Man films were massive (in fact SM1 caused the creation of the 12-A in the UK due to backlash what works pretty much like the PG-13 rating) and Nolan's The Dark Knight was the first CMB to touch that Billion and back then getting to a Billion was a rare thing.

      You talk about a time when CBMs were few sporadic films that were released every 3 years or so. We are now moving to an environment where, between Disney/Fox, WB and Sony/Columbia, we may have 7 or 8 CBM releases per year and, especially in Marvel’s case, a non-event film about a generic and uninsteresting minor character can easily get to a billion dollars or pretty close.
      So, yes, CBMs are overrated and are crowding out the market.

      Your missing my point. CBM were always popular but due to bad films and flops like B&R, Fantastic Four and Catwoman studios were still weary of making them, however as the MCU became mega, Nolan proving you can do something more adult, Fox showing you do R-Rated CBM and so on it showed studios that people love CBM films. Yes there's loads but that's because people want to see them and as i said because of the nature of them you apply them to different genres, The Winter Soldier is more thriller then something like Avengers, Guardians is more a space opera comedy then something like Spider-Man, Logan is pretty much a Western and Joker is a character study about a mentally ill man what's more like Taxi Driver.

      Its already had its release in Canada and not very many screens are holding it. The large theater near my house has 5 screens dedicated to that shitty Star Wars film and Frozen.

The RT score will be critical for Birds of Prey despite people pointing to Suicide Squad to disprove that.

My impression is that , since everybody is a priori unsure about BoP, they will look for an external seal of approval before going to see it. If it is fresh, I think it can have a strong opening.

Rotten Tomatoes isnt reliable from time to time. Remember the 2016 Ghostbusters movie, that got a 74% and no one liked that movie. IMDb is the true telling for whether or not if a movie is any good. RT, Metacritic, and others are just critics. IMDb is the audience, with thousands of ratings when critic sites just have a few dozen or hundred. Joker has a 69% on RT and an 8.7 on IMDb (That's better than most movies).

  It doesn't help that Snyder constantly lies about this himself. He's said in the past it's "done", and recently he has said "it's not completely finished".
  He's also said his JL cut only has a black suited Superman, yet he also claimed credit for the deleted "Master Kent? - Superman/Afred" scene in which he wore his blue suit. I'm also pretty sure he said the Steppenwolf design we saw in the film was not his, despite the fact that he has shared multiple pics of "his" cut in which Steppenwolf looks EXACTLY the same. He has said so, SO much utter bullshit that he has lost any and all credibility. We literally shouldn't taken anything that comes out his mouth seriously, as he has proved time and time again he'll say anything to get fanboy attention and people pretending he would have made a masterpiece. He's only interested in stroking his obscene ego, that's all there is to it; There is NO Snyder cut (in a finished state) and these fanboys seriously need to get the fuck over it.

      You haven't watched the video so you don't actually know what he's saying. He doesn't deny the film doesn't exist (he admits the title was bait) but as everyone has been saying he says the film is in a workprint form meaning it has unfinished effects, is badly edited and so on, i didn't know this but VFX artists have said the money it would cost on the effects alone would be near 40 million so yeah WB aren't going to be finishing this supposed cut. Watch the video, its not a hate piece and it clears up a lot.

Being that WW84 is late to release, yeah, it's no surprise it's at the top of the heap. Even Patty said she wished it released in 2019. But we get around the Star Wars hoopla and have a cleaner slate to work with. I or anyone else for that matter have no reason to doubt Patty Jenkins, which is why anticipation is so high, but I'm going to need her to come correct with Cheetah. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have some concerns about Kristen Wiig and her performance but I'm hoping for the best and think she will deliver on a full transformation into Cheetah.
