First look: Batman #82 - Can Bane be stopped?

Gotham may be the City of Bane, but Batman’s come to take it back.

Tom King’s run on the book is quickly approaching its conclusion, with the final showdown between Batman and Bane at the center of it all. Can Bruce set aside his rage and focus on the situation at hand, or will this be another battle of brains and brawn where Bane emerges the victor?

Before we reach the end, DC Comics have provided a sneak peek at Batman #82, where these two titans face off for the fate of Gotham City. It’s some absolutely stunning work from returning penciler Mikel Janín and colorist extraordinaire Jordie Bellaire, so check it out below.

Per DC:

It’s "City of Bane" part eight, as Mikel Janín rejoins Tom King for the climactic chapters of the epic, sold-out storyline that’s sent Gotham spinning into chaos and tragedy! Batman and his allies wage war on the City of Bane, but an unexpected turn of events will send everyone reeling. You're shitting me. Bruce cant even beat a non-Venom Bane without Catwoman's help?

Is anyone suprised? King does this every single time. It's so boring. We could have had the coolest team ups in 85 issues, but at the end of the day it always seems to come down to Batman and Catwoman with Selina winning the fight for Bruce, even if it makes no sense for her to do so.

So pretty much Batman/Catwoman take out Bane next issue. Then Thomas will be revealed as the main villain.

I'm really interested in his explanation of Thomas' return. After reading the last couple issues I'm beginning to think Bruce doesn't know about Alfred yet. Well we'll see how it all plays out and if King can stick the landing.

Sigh...I wasn't expecting much....I was expecting crap...But...one thing I DID hope for was that we would at LEAST get a good looking fight between Bane and Batman while they are...you know LOOKING like Batman and Bane...But no! King couldn't give us that, he had to make them HALF-NAKED. What is it with King and his obsession with Bane being either naked or Half-naked? Im reminded of that line from the dark knight rises...

"No one cared who I was till I put on a mask.."

Yeah...I agree! I don't care about Bane being half-naked and all. To me, Bane's TRUE face IS his mask.

Again with King's inconsistency! LOOK at Bane's venom tubes in the previewed panels. Why would Bane need Psycho Pirate to cut down on his addiction on the drug or go cold turkey, and YET he defeats Batman without using it until several issues later, he's using them again snapping his victim's neck ( you all know who ). He certainly would NOT need Venom to snap someone's neck nor take on Batman. He's defeated Bruce without the drug before especially Ras Al Ghul, and many others.

Tom King is such an inconsistent fool as if he can't make up his mind whether Bane should stay on venom or not. And that last panel of Bruce holding two Bat shurikens behind his back? If I were Bane, I would see that coming already. So cliche.

It does look like Bane has either been hiding at Arkham Asylum ( if these are skulls I'm seeing in the background ) or a prison, but it looks to be the former. If Bane took over Gotham, hiding at Arkham would not make sense. Why is he NOT using Wayne manor as his HQ, let alone Thomas? I remember back in KnightFall long after he broke Batman for the first time, his first headquarters/safe house was at a penthouse in a high rise building where he and Azrael had a fight in.

Bane's hiding at Arkham Asylum contradicts the new Arkham Knight's canon of having her own base underground of that very same compound.

As for the cover of Thomas Wayne pulling strings, I would NOT be surprised if he was the one manipulating Bane.
