There is no shortage of video essays on the internet these days breaking down issues with movies. From small ones to big ones, they all get tackled at some point.
And sometimes directors do it to themselves it seems.
David F. Sandberg has released a video essay about Shazam!, as in the movie he himself directed. In the video, he details how a blooper nearly got past him until he had some graphics added. And then he goes into a very detailed explanation about how a wardrobe question ended up leading into a logistics issue, which led to the addition of some dialogue, which led to... you get the idea.
I will be the first to confess there have been many times over the years where I've wondered about an extra line of dialogue here or there, or perhaps even an entire scene. Going forward, I can honestly say I will be a bit more forgiving of the smaller details. This isn't to say that there is a logical explanation for everything in a film, just like he points to the backpack issue in the video. Sometimes, a flub is a flub.
If Sandberg wanted to do this for every movie he makes from here on out, we certainly wouldn't complain.
Shazam! is out on digital now, and will be available on disc on July 16.
