Warner Bros. hints it will return to Hall H for San Diego Comic-Con 2020

It seems that Warner Bros. skipping out on a Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con may have simply been a matter of timing.

Warner Bros. surprised the fan community recently by announcing it would not be putting on a Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. It seems, however, it came down to a matter of timing.

Speaking at the Produced By Conference, Warner Bros. Studio chairman Toby Emmerich spoke to the future of DC films and stated that right now it's down to getting the properties into the right filmmaker's hands. “Great directors are the lifeblood of a studio, but they need great producers,” said Emmerich.

As to the issues with Comic-Con, he hinted that the studio would be back in more force in 2020, and that this year the studio simply wasn't ready to share materials on its upcoming slate yet. While Todd Phillips' Joker is due on Oct. 4, Birds of Prey isn't slated until Feb. 7, 2020, and Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020. It sounds as though it just didn't work out mathematically for this year.

This does make us wonder, however, what could the studio possibly have planned for Hall H in 2020. The next film after Wonder Woman 1984 is The Batman which is scheduled for June 25, 2021. With filming rumored to begin in early 2020, we could potentially see the first teaser footage, but it seems doubtful it would be a full trailer.

We'll just have to wait and see what Warner Bros. has in store for its fans at San Diego Comic-Con 2020.

Wait, what?!😂 A second Joker trailer could've been dropped, followed by a Q&A with the director and lead actor. BoP wrapped production in mid-April. Could a teaser have been put together by late July, with a small Q&A with the director? I'm thinking yes! There's literally three DC movies coming out before next year's San Diego Comic-Con. But holding back on the Wonder Woman footage, is fine.

I get their strategy. They don't need to sell these movies to nerds, they need to sell to the general public. They rather spend the money appropriately.

Bad strategy IMHO. When it comes to superhero movies, the nerds and their social media outlets are those who create the hype which then filters through to the general audience.
I think it is just the case that, as studio execs have repeated many times, WB doesn’t want to be overly dependent in DC films going forward. That is why they don’t promote/develop the brand to its full potential. Whether that is the right strategy or not, only time will tell.

  There are valid arguments in both your posts. WB marketing strategy definitely needs to change and reach a bigger audience, but the importante of “nerds” and social media cannot be understated. Remember, before CBMs became what they are now, it was the “nerds” who kept that market alive... without social media

  If nerd sold films then Dredd would have been one of the biggest films of 2012. Great marketing aimed at GA sell these films not a handful of geeks online.

Disappointed could of been an opportunity to showcase The Joker , BOP, and WW to create hype. That being said I’m optimistic on the direction of the DCEU going forward. I hope BOP is a good movie cuz out of all the upcoming releases it’s the one that I’m not the most hype about yet. I know that they wanna keep the movies separate at this point but they need to work on a plan to make a shared universe eventually.

Definitely sounds like Patty could've released WW84 on the back end of 2019. However, I wouldn't go up against Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, so it's definitely the right move to wait. DC really has nothing to deliver where it makes sense for them to go all out at Hall H, so no big deal.

Joker isn't a part of the DC Universe although it is a part of DC Films, but the trailer has been more than enough as a selling point. It's gonna be big. BoP & WW84 will come out before SDCC 2020, so they may not bother show their corporate face next year either other than to celebrate WW84 and maybe tease ever-so briefly snippets of The Batman, Aquaman II and if we're lucky, Black Adam in costume.

If we don't get those brief snippets or cast questions and developments regarding any of those three films being made, I really wouldn't be surprised if they skip next year too.

Just goes to show how terribly disorganized they are.
Even still, I find it incredibly hard to believe that they had NOTHING they could do for Comic Con. They could have shown a Birds of Prey Sizzle Reel. They definitely could have shown a few Wonder Woman clips (If they had the Mall Scene for 2018's Comic Con for Wonder Woman 1984, don't tell me they couldn't have provided something more for this year), and they could have had a panel for the Joker movie, which is only months away.

agreed, i think its more money. why pay for a hall when you can drop an HD trailer on youtube instead of the inevitable low-res video leak that some fans tapes from the hall. plus they are making the DC booth bigger on the floor of the convention.
