Following the surprising news on Thursday morning that Swamp Thing had been canceled, there has been a lot of speculation about what would happen to the rest of season 1. Batman News has been able to confirm that DC Universe will show all 10 episodes and will show its series finale on August 2.
The news of the cancelation came as a surprise as the first episode had only been released on Friday, May 31. It was known the episode order for season 1 had been cut from 13 episodes to 10, but there was still hope for the series to carry on to a season 2.
According to a report from The Geeks WorldWide, the cast and crew of the series were notified of the news on Wednesday evening that there would be no renewal.
There has been a lot of speculation as to what caused the cancelation, but it seems to have been a series of two events. The first being the series would not be receiving all of its expected tax credits from North Carolina, as well as the new AT&T ownership of WarnerMedia not liking the direction of the series.
As to the overall state of the DC Universe service at the moment, the Harley Quinn animated series is set to debut in the fall, the first season of Stargirl is in production, Titans season 2 is filming, and no word yet on a renewal for Doom Patrol.
While it's disappointing to know that we will only have 10 episodes of this Swamp Thing series, hopefully, it will be able to go out on a high note and be a series we will all be able to at least say we enjoyed.
