Booster Gold is 'ready to go,' just waiting on the studio

There is a completed Booster Gold script with a producer and director attached, but it is just sitting somewhere in a Warner Bros. office for the time being.

If this refrain sounds familiar, it is. The Booster Gold script has been kicking around for a few years now, just waiting on Warner Bros. to give it the greenlight. Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class, Thor) complteted the script some time ago. It was submitted to Warner Bros., and then the studio apparently tried figuring out where it fit into the DCEU plans. That is where everything appears to have groung to a halt.

The latest update on it comes from Stentz speaking with Revenge of the Fans.

“I do not know what’s going on with it right now, honestly. And I don’t know if the DC people know what’s going on with it. Their strategy seems to change depending on how […] most recent movie did. But I can tell you that a script has been turned in that the director and producer, Greg Berlanti, has proclaimed himself to be very happy with. And it’s something that’s ready to go, but DC and Warner Bros. would need to give the greenlight to it. The ball is in their court.”

This, of course, is not the first time we've heard similar information. Greg Berlanti of Arrowverse fame, has been attached as a producer and possible director for some time now. He said essentially the same thing in regards to the status in March 2018.

“It’s still in development with DC,” Berlanti told The Wrap. “I wrote a draft, they’re trying to figure out both the distance that we still have to travel and how we want to execute it.” He also added that Warner Bros. is trying to figure out "how it’s going to fit into their greater landscape," meaning the DC Extended Universe.

Will this film ever come to our theaters? It's anyone's guess at this point, but we're not going to suggest holding your breath, sadly.

Since it's Greg Berlanti I'm not expecting much even if this DOES get eventually made.
This needed to be closer to something to along the lines of Deadpool to really work and stand out. (not necessarily that it should have a mature rating or a lot of meta humor, just that it needed to be different enough from your standard superhero story)

    Heh, You are cute.You think that Hack Snyder movies were doing great at box office?.....Lol, Both BvS and JL failed to even make it's investment back on box office and only made profit cause of dvd sales, Streaming rights, Tv rights, Merchandise etc.
    There is a reason you still don't have MOS 2 or how DC completely changed JL tone after BVS.

  There's no way I'd show my kids Shazam, there was a lot of stuff in there that would have scared the hell out of kids; and here in Australia it was classified Mature, which is for people 15 and over.

Not necessarily. Things didn't go that great for Shazam. But with better marketing, and bigger names, Booster Gold could...strike gold. These obscure superhero movies, need a unique and distinct style, like the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

But honestly I can't say that I care about this movie much. I'd rather have GLC or the Flash movie or MoS 2. You know, things that actually need to happen. Or heck, as far as less important stuff goes, I'd sooner take the Deathstroke movie.

So... no Supes 2, no GL, no Flash... but Booster Gold. And here I was giving WB the benefit of the doubt. Oh, well, let's hope this just ends in someone's desk drawer to be taken out like in 6-7 years, after the IMPORTANT DC characters have at least a couple of films each

DC is driven on comedy and lightheartedness with action right now, so I'm not surprised they're looking to tap in on Booster Gold, but how necessary is a film for the character when we still have to take care of the core of our DC characters and universe and make sure they get top billing and the best care?

The film has potential to work but I'm frustrated by their lack of concern for the core. Seems like it just boils down to no vision and those who do have vision for a character are getting a shot at a film opportunity. DC needs to rearrange their focus and make a priority to hone in on the big guns of their universe to get real excitement built up. The navigation in the DC Universe is a bit too loose for my liking but I suppose a Booster Gold flick does have a shot.
