This Shazam-inspired Xbox One X console looks awesome

Ever since limited-edition gaming consoles became a thing, I've looked at each one with envy. But perhaps none more than the Shazam-inspired console Microsoft is giving away to celebrate the upcoming release of Shazam! on April 5. The console itself looks super cool with the textured red skinning and the night lightning bolt. The yellow accents on the controller and console are nice, too.

How do you (or I, for that matter) get one? Microsoft is taking a cue from the movie itself. Don't worry, no spoilers here. Early in the film, Billy Batson ends up rooming with a kid named Freddy at the foster home he finds himself in. Like us, Freddy is a total nerd for superheroes and knows everything about them. When Billy gets his magical powers, Freddy takes him through a bunch of experiments to find out what superhero powers he has. And so to get a pair of Shazam Xbox consoles - for you and your Billy or Freddy - Microsoft wants you to hit them up on social media and tell them what superpowers your best friend would have.

If you win, along with the Xbox One X itself, Microsoft is dropping a year-long subscription to Xbox, which gives you access to a library of downloadable, playable games. Batman: Return to Arkham is up there, so if you somehow haven't played it - what are you waiting for? If you already have an Xbox, there are also Shazam avatars available up through July 31.

The contest is open through April 9, and Microsoft has the full details over on its official Xbox Wire news page. And just a quick disclaimer: We have no association with Microsoft and we're not advertising this. I just think it looks really cool.

What? It has 2 weeks before Endgame is a thing. That's when movies have made most of their gross. It will have an effect. But nowhere near as big as you might think.

    Good thing they did the early release last week. Kind of gives them 4 weeks. ;P The extra word of mouth this past week will probably give a big boost for the actual release date. Plus I can see people who can't find tickets for Endgame going to this instead.

The reason they are having early screening is to spread good word of mouth so they can take total advantage of three weekend release window.Between, Three weeks are enough for it to make most of it's money.

    I would say in every generation. Xbox came close with the first xbox to rival the ps2, but the ps3 and ps4 runs circle around the 360 and the xbox1, with my personal favorite being the ps3.

      I didnt say better online gaming, i said free online gaming. The games are definitely better for PS, thats a known fact, not to mention more games and the internal blu ray player. The only good thing xbox had was xbox live and slightly better graphics, but you had to pay 60$ a year, while it was free on psn. Overall, the ps3 was a better console and the number 1 choice.

      Actually, thats not true. The Ps3 gained even more momentum and sold a few millions more than xbow 360 in 2013. The 360 released a year before the ps3, therefore had the advantage when it came to sales, it was cheaper and most people already had a console, which caused the ps3 to struggle in its first few years but started outselling xbox week by week in 2008 and ended up outselling xbox overall. Even though the xbox was cheaper, you had to buy a whole bunch of things separately, while ps3 came with everything.

      I'd say the controller, infrastructure and overall services and stability. Plus the hardware quite frankly. People say the PS3 was better "once they understood the architecture", but that's a blatant lie. The GPU coupled with the EDRam was stronger than the GPU in the PS3, although the core processor was better in the PS3, but that doesn't really matter that much in comparison.
      Bluray, games depending on who you ask, free online (even though it wasn't that stable) is what made the PS3 better than the 360 imo.

      Just because the ps4 and xbox 1 released that year, doesnt make it the end of its lifespan. The ps3 is still being supported by sony to this day and released persona 5 on the ps3 in 2016 and more recent games like fifa 2019 etc, same for the 360.

      I dont remember exactly what, but i remember that you had to buy a few necessary things after youve bought the console. You couldnt play while your controller battery was charging, most 360 prior 2010 failed with rrod, etc.

      And as for the second part, not really. Everything came with it, headset, controller, etc. Same as PS3, minus the Wifi adapter. And in terms of the controller, having AA batteries is actually quite advantageous from an energy standpoint. And the RROD was most certainly NOT an issue for "most 360 prior to 2010". It was an issue for the first model back in 06, but by 2010 they were already at the 3rd model if I remember correctly.

      Sales does prove something, this isnt like the movies or many other things. When it comes to gaming, people will choose the console that fits their needs when it comes to gaming and other things. The same applies for the ps4.

      Let's be real here, the ONLY reason why the PS4 is as far ahead as it is now, is not because Sony did something particularly right with the PS4, but because MS monumentally fucked up their reveal and acted like arrogant, controlling pricks afterwards. PS4's success was mostly due to the Xbox One's initial backlash. I still remember how many people were saying they were done with the Xbox brand, and how they'd switch to PS.
      So no, sales in this case do NOT prove "PS did something better". The second Phil Spencer became head of Xbox, the entire brand took a turn for the best and the console now doesn't resemble the initial vision of MS whatsoever. It was only lagging behind in hardware, which the X fixed and then some.

      Yeah, that's not what I meant. All batteries have a limited lifespan, and they continue to decrease in efficiency quite rapidly. This wouldn't be a problem if you could change the batteries in the PS controller, but you can't. This is why Xbox controllers have always beat PS controllers in terms of battery duration. Data shows Xbox controllers can last up to 10 times longer in extreme cases.
      Xbox controllers give you the choice of regular AA batteries, or rechargeable ones which can always be replaced. There's no question this is better than PS forcing built in batteries that will decrease in quality sooner or later.

      Fast forward today, the ps4 out sold the xbox 1 and switch by a large margin. The PS4 has sold 84.90 million units lifetime, the Xbox One 39.44 million units, and the Switch 21.58 million units. The ps3 may have had a few missteps in its early days, but the ps4 fixed all of them and then some, which puts sony on top once again, and im not just talking just in sales. The ps4 exclusives is on another lever that the xbox 1 coujd never match. What was once a toe to toe race with the ps3 and 360 is no more.

      I agree that PS4 has the best exclusives (not an opinion, just a fact), but purely from an objective standpoint, the X1 is superior in nearly every other way. It has better services (BC, game pass, etc), better infrastructure and demonstrably faster UI (both in terms of speed and layout. Videos on YT prove this), more frequent and substantial updates, more features (there isn't a single thing the PS4 can do that the One can't, but there are things that the One can do but the PS4 cannot), better hardware, 4k bluray, better controller, things like faster Bluetooth and WiFi, much better online (for the same price pretty much. Connection/ download/ upload speeds are insanely better on the One), MS is also FAR more consumer friendly (at least this generation).
      In terms of base consoles, PS4 has the edge in hardware, but in terms of the elite consoles, there is literally NOTHING the PS4 has or does better than the X. I'm sorry but that's just a fact. PS simply has the best exclusives period, which gives them a massive advantage.
      But frankly, my PS4 only collects dust unless I play the exclusives. I have no reason to ever turn it on considering my Xbox does everything else better.

      I agree that the x1 has features that the ps4 doesnt, but it goes both ways. Theres a lot of features that ps4 provides that x1 doesnt, and most of them are apparent unlike the xbox 1.

The PS4 is a very good console and arguably better than the original X1 overall (the Pro isn't though, for what it's supposed to be at least)... what I can't stand is how it seems to be popular to hate on the Xbox brand, especially by those who don't even own the damn console. They've lacked in terms of exclusives, but as a gaming console in and of itself, the Xbox One X is clearly the best console on the market right now. Not only in terms of hardware, but overall infrastructure, services (like free BC), online, etc.
I get that many people thought this generation was disappointing, but to call it garbage is a massive overstatement. If it weren't for Sony's exclusives, there would barely be any reason to get a PS4 over an Xbox, from a purely objective standpoint.

      RDR2 runs at half the resolution of 4k on the Pro, and very few games on Xbox ran at 720p. You're deluded.
      The difference in pixels is MUCH bigger between X and Pro, compared to base consoles. Nice try.

    But that argument only works if people ONLY bought exclusive games, which is just not true. Most people still own more multiplatform games, compared to first party titles. If you own both consoles, there really is no reason to ever turn on your PS4, other than to play the exclusives, which admittedly are way better and more diverse.
    I don't give a fuck what anyone says, but MS have been FAR more consumer friendly this generation (because they have to be, as they are behind), the UI is demonstrably faster, they update the console far more frequently, they add several features PS still doesn't have, they have BC (which imo, is a huge deal because I still play a ton of 7th gen games), the online is better, it has a 4k bluray player, etc etc.
    I couldn't care less about the console war and whether people prefer PS or Xbox. I think it's petty as fuck this "war" even exists in the first place... but we still have to be honest. Xbox is objectively better in SO many ways.
    PS has the first party games and that's a huge deal, I get that. Their games are fantastic, but in most other areas, Xbox is the superior platform (in terms of the X... the base consoles, PS still has an edge in hardware obviously).
    Besides, I also don't really agree Xbox' first party games have been "garbage" this generation. They've been mediocre at worst. There just haven't been enough of them.

      That's very extreme, imo. Either this is your opinion and I'll stop whining, or you admit there is more to a gaming console than JUST exclusives, in which case you also must admit Xbox is better in loads of areas and worth the purchase.
      Again, I also don't even agree Xbox has "few exclusives that are worth it". I'd buy Xbox just for Halo alone. Halo is still better than any FPS exclusive Sony has ever made, and it's better than most PS exclusives, period. Then there's Gears, Forza Motorsport, Horizon, Sunset Overdrive, Ashen (criminally underrated and up to par with games like Bloodborne), Quantum Break (another great, unique, underappreciated game), Ori and the Blind Forest, Titanfall 1, etc.
      Even games like Sea of Thieves, State of Decay, Dead Rising, etc are also perfectly decent games. Great? No, but definitely solid first party titles. Heck, even the "popular to hate" Crackdown 3 is by no means a bad game. It's basically just a remake of Crackdown 1, which most people loved. There's nothing really wrong with the game, people just hate it cause it's cool to do so. I'm not a Crackdown fan... never liked the franchise, it's not for me. But if it weren't for the widely reported development hell, it surely would've gotten better reviews.
      Yes, PS has more, but people act like it's 10:1 or something... it's more like 2:1, if even that. And honestly, my PS only collects dust unless I play the exclusives. I have no reason to ever turn on my PS other than exclusives games, which proves Xbox is "better" outside of exclusives. At least in a lot of ways.

      Why buy an Xbox just buy a pc you can play all Xbox games on there with an Xbox controller even...... The only thing they trail behind now is exclusives, They dominate in everything else.Just game pass is enough to choose an Xbox.Being able to play over 200 games which include new exclusives and third part games for $9.99 per month is awesome.

  Very true. Again, I give no shits about the console war... but it does bother me when people are being biased and unfair. If Xbox players cannot say they have more/better exclusives (and rightfully so), than PS players shouldn't be able to say PS is better at everything else, because it factually is not.
  There is simply no reason to ever turn on your PS4 if you own both consoles, other than to play exclusives.
