New logo for "Detective Comics" revealed, along with a first look at "Batman: Last Knight on Earth"

Detective Comics #1000 may have debuted this week, but the celebration of Batman's 80th birthday doesn't stop there. The party raged on during day one of WonderCon, and DC Comics brought plenty of Batman goodness to share. The biggest news was that, starting with issue 1001, Detective Comics will have a brand new title logo. It’s very retro, with shades of the old Batman and the Outsiders logo in there. After a few hours I can safely say I dig it, and can’t wait to see it on the title going forward.

In addition to unveiling the logo, DC also shared some preview pages from Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Batman: Last Knight on Earth, which they’ve pitched as their last Batman story. It has a Batsuit made of a straitjacket and Joker’s head in some sort of lantern, so I think it’s safe to say that this will be a pretty straightforward story without any surprises whatsoever. I was there. I love the button they handed out. I'll probably keep my collector cards pack sealed. The poster will probably sit on a shelf gathering dust or in a comic book box. LOL

I'm not super excited about the logo myself. I know it stars Batman, but I'm old school and just love the nostalgia of "Detective Comics" being the main event of the logo. I think one of my favorites of past logos were the ones on the Steve Englehart/Marshall Rogers run I grew up reading in the 70's. I think I'd read Ernie Chua drew the Batman art around the type.

Obviously my opinion of the logo won't stop me from continuing to read it. https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

Thought I'd update with a pic of the Batman 80 Years button I got yesterday at this panel. It's my second favorite Batman button, after the one I got at SDCC waaaaay back during the summer that Batman '89 hit the world. I have it stored in this Batman logo tin and can't believe my movie tickets from seeing the Keaton film in theatres back then are in there with the ink still legible! https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

That logo does look good for Detective Comics, I still believe Arkham Knight was a mistake that should have never been allowed to happen.

Arkham Knight was just a poor imitation of Jason's better mainstream version. His game motivation was built on hating and blaming Bruce on his death while OG Jason never blamed Bruce for it. Then he works with Batman enemies, the enemies that were shown to be torturing him when the Joker had him locked up in Arkham when he was MIA.
The game was also pretty much written on tired attitude that spread to Batman's own mentality, which made him just quit at the end. If another game studio wants to continue the series, they are better to ignore everything that happened in Arkham Knight and make something better that happens after Arkham City.

Could you link something that you'd be satisfied with? I always thought the N52 one was cool because the letters sort of look like a bat.

Hmm at first I thought this isn't needed, but looking back at the old logo I just now realized it wasn't much of an actual logo, just "Batman Detective Comics" slapped on the cover. I didn't even realize the Batman name was on the title. It's weird how some obvious details remain unnoticed by the mind. Well, now I like it!
