It appears that the hopes of another Justice League movie are going to be a ways off for now.
Speaking with the Los Angeles Times in regards to the AT&T deal, Warner Bros. chief executive Kevin Tsujihara covered a wide range of topics. Amongst those was what the future of the DCEU films may look like.
Asked about how the mixed results have changed the studio's strategy, it's pretty clear another major team movie is a ways off. "The upcoming slate, with Shazam, Joker, Wonder Woman 1984, and Birds of Prey, feels like we’re on the right track. We have the right people in the right jobs working on it."
Tsujihara went on to add, "The universe isn’t as connected as we thought it was going to be five years ago. You’re seeing much more focus on individual experiences around individual characters." We shouldn't give up all hope, however, as he added, "That’s not to say we won’t at some point come back to that notion of a more connected universe. But it feels like that’s the right strategy for us right now."
Clearly, there are team films in the work as James Gunn is working on a new Suicide Squad film, but it won't be a new Justice League film for some time it would seem.
As to what brought about this change of plans, well it would seem to be about what Patty Jenkins managed to do with Wonder Woman. "[It] illustrated to us what you could do with these characters who are not Batman and Superman. Obviously, we want to get those two in the right place, and we want strong movies around Batman and Superman. But Aquaman is a perfect example of what we can do. They’re each unique and the tone’s different in each movie."
For now it seems we'll be on the train for more focused films, or ones that bring together lesser known characters. It sounds as though we won't be seeing the Trinity together as a group any time soon.
