Armie Hammer has been a regular part of the Batman casting rumor mill since long before Ben Affleck's exit became official. He's a popular fan choice, and why wouldn't he be? Hammer was once set to play Batman for director George Miller in the never-made Justice League Mortal.
At this point, however, if Hammer's potential involvement in director Matt Reeves' The Batman stretches beyond mere rumors, that would be news to him. "No one who can actually give me the job has asked me if I'm interested," Hammer told Yahoo! Movies. "I can conclusively tell you that no one has checked my availability, which is a bummer."
Actors can downplay negotiations or just pretend they're not happening at all in interviews. There is, however, no concrete information to contradict what Hammer told Yahoo!, so we'll take him at his word for now.
That Hammer referred to the non-existence of Batman casting talks as a bummer suggests he's at least interested. The question is whether or not he's the right guy for Warner Bros. and Matt Reeves. If Reeves indeed wants a younger Batman, as has been reported consistently, Hammer may have already aged out at 32.
Of course, Hammer could still pass for being in his late 20s and digital de-aging technology exists.
