Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) begins filming this week, and it appears Margot Robbie squeezed in one last training session before the craziness begins.
While an actor training for a role isn't at all unusual, one of the tools she was training with is a bit on the odd side. Birds of Prey Movie Updates posted the images to Twitter.
As you may remember in the 2013 Harley Quinn series by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti, Harley went off and joined the Coney Island Roller Derby. So there is a comic precedent for Quinn to don the wheeled shoes.
It's still not clear how much time has passed in the DCEU since Suicide Squad. When last we saw Harley, the Joker (Jared Leto) had raided the prison to break her out. What happened to her after that is unknown. For all we know, in the new film she could be in a roller derby, or maybe she is just wearing the skates as part of her new film costume.
And, yes, there is also every chance her trainer simply like the exercise of wearing skates. However, judging by the coloring of the skates, we do feel these show up in the film in some capacity.
Birds of Prey begins filming this week with Robbie returning as Harley Quinn, and she will be joined by Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the Huntress, while Jurnee Smollett-Bell will be playing Black Canary. Rosie Perez will be playing Renee Montoya, and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain as well. And Ewan McGregor joined the cast as Gotham City villain Black Mask. Ali Wong has even joined the cast in an unknown role.
Birds of Prey is due to hit theaters on Feb. 7, 2020.
