Aquaman is a huge hit at the box office. Most critics and moviegoers have enjoyed the film, but you can't please everyone. There are some who don't like Aquaman, but director James Wan isn't looking for fans to step out of line to defend the film.
Wan tweeted a message on Sunday, telling fans not to harass those who don't like his film. Wan said that bullying is, "Not the kind of support I want. Be respectful."
The director also pointed out that those who don't care for Aquaman shouldn't be attacking him personally. He doesn't need to be tagged in their negative reviews and social media reactions.
It really is unfortunate that anyone needs to be told how to handle disagreements over movies with respect and common courtesy, but such is the age we live in. Adding to this misfortune is the reality that Wan's words won't change much.
People are still going to cross the line "in defense of" Aquaman and other films. People will continue to attack directors for making movies they don't like. All of these people will continue to attack each other over these relatively trivial disagreements.
This is why it's incumbent upon each of us to remain civil when we disagree. It's better to be part of the solution than to perpetuate the problem.
