Aquaman Moves into 5th Place All-Time for Superhero Movies in China with $135M

on Aquaman Moves into 5th Place All-Time for Superhero Movies in China with $135M

Aquaman is swimming in cash. The DC film is now the fifth highest-grossing superhero movie ever released in China with $135.3M. It has recently passed Marvel Studios pictures like Spider-Man: Homecoming, Iron Man 3, and Ant-Man and the Wasp on the all-time box office charts in the territory.

By the end of its second weekend in China, Aquaman will have passed Captain America: Civil War ($180.8M) for fourth place. After that, James Wan’s oceanic epic will only trail Avengers: Infinity War, Venom, and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Aquaman opens in more markets this week, followed by its domestic release on December 21. The reviews are mostly good (including ours) and this early international success could propel Aquaman all the way to the top of the global box office charts for the current era of DC Films.

Well deserved!!! It will most likely break the $200 M barrier next weekend. At this point, I think it will end with $250+

Im not biased towards Marvel or DC, I want both to continue making the best quality movies they can. However, I cant help but notice, when it comes to critics and reviews, stuff Marvel gets praised for and gets a pass for, DC seems to get lambasted for and riduculed. I'm no tin foil hat conspiracy theorist but there does seem to be professional biasism towards Marvel movies compared to DC.

What bias??? There's no bias you tinfoil hat wearing snyder fanboi!

You're 100% right. There is a bias in criticism ... Marvel is protected by the supposed "experts". Just watch the reviews like Iron Man3, GoG1 (stupid dance), Ultron and Infinite War (full of holes in the script).

      There is no imparciality.

Certainly seems to be a thing. DC just seems to be reviewed to a much harsher standard.

  5. StarTheory Avatar

Rotten Tomatoes makes no sense to me. A top critic gave it 3/5 and it's considered rotten but then you have over a dozen of other reviews that also gave it 3/5 and it's considered fresh? Bruh

    1. Jackson Pollock Painting Avatar

The critic needs to submit the review with a Fresh or Rotten rating. If they don't the RT staff will read the review and assign it for them, regardless of the score.

      1. StarTheory Avatar
        StarTheory

That's dumb. It seems like they are just all over the place and no standard has been set.

        1. Jackson Pollock Painting Avatar

I agree, the percentage isn't really that objective since most reviews are up to the interpretation of the RT staff.

I noticed that too. But what bothers me more is that critics seem to agree that it's a C movie. And we need better.

      1. StarTheory Avatar
        StarTheory

Agreed, I think Shazam, Joker and Birds of Prey will score around the same. It won't be till WW84 or The Batman that we might get something special.

They are gonna be more of the same. No idea about the Joker that could be anything, but the others are gonna be generic souless shallow entertainment.
You are not gonna believe but it is pretty predictable, and this is coming from the guy who described perfectly what the Aquaman movie was gonna be like two months before relase.

it is a C movie, you want better but dotn at the same time, this is what all the "fans" wanted right? colorful, light hearted "fun" movies for the whole family to enjoy, well you wont get that and a good movie at the same time most of the time, you have to choose one or the another

Watched it, it an OK movie. There were 1 or 2 moments I actually enjoyed but that was it. I expect it to hit the BoxOffice quite hard. General audience will love it for it simpliness.

you know people have opinions right? Just because you don't think Aquaman is great doesn't mean other people are not allowed to think it is. And just because you think Man of Steel is great, does not mean other people have to think it is.

Venom and Age of Ultron are awful. Aquaman while far from great is a better movie than those two.

    1. BornAgainPCGamer Avatar
      BornAgainPCGamer

Venoms reviews were a bit up and down, so it done surprisingly well at the BO, with that taken into account. However AoU was praised like the 2nd coming of Christ and it was far from it. I watched it once and that was it, I've not watched it since and i usually always watch decent movies multiple times.

I think it'd be great for DC, if Aquaman out grossed both in its run. Yet, i hope that doesn't mean WB will settle for the standard Aquaman has set. By all acounts its a fun movie but there's room for improvement. I hope DC keep pushing for quality, going forward.
