It's happening, or at least Warner Bros. is trying to make it happen. A Plastic Man movie is officially in development at the studio, as announced on today's episode of DC Daily. Amanda Idoko will pen the film's "comedic, action-driven" script.

News of a Plastic Man movie and Idoko's involvement broke last week, but this is the first official comment on the project from Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. Speaking about this news publicly is a declaration of intent and a statement of confidence that this movie could actually get made.

Plastic Man may not have been high on many DC fans' priority list for movie adaptations, but Patrick “Eel” O’Brien is a cult favorite. Plastic Man has a lot of potential as the star of an action comedy and if DC Films is to thrive in a crowded marketplace, a few unconventional choices will need to be made.

It's not like there were a ton of people begging Marvel for Guardians of the Galaxy when it was announced in 2012. Warner Bros. is also capable of giving moviegoers a new favorite character they did not know they wanted.

    While I approve of DCEU moving away from the dreary, grim and hopeless era of the previous films (bar WW), there are so many better heroes and characters to focus on than Plastic Man.

    I’d take a Doctor Fate, a Lantern Corps, hell, I would even take a Hawkman/Hawkgirl, over this. I just feel like there are some solid characters that are getting snubbed.

    Also when is my OG justice league member Martian Manhunter gonna get some love? As a kid he was my favourite in the animated series.

    I had hoped Booster gold was a higher priority than Plastic Man but I'll take it just the same. I'm all for having some fun for all movies but I still want some dark stuff to even it out (like JL Dark directed by James Wan).

      Seems like they’re gonna focus on an episodic Swamp Thing before a JL Dark. I was hoping for the movie first, as well, but a Swamp Thing show is just as good (especially since James Wan is producing).

    comedic is totally fine. Just don't make it cheesy. Based on some stuff in Wonder Woman and Patty's comments on the matter, as well as Aquaman apparently, I feel some DC directors are a little too willing to embrace the cheese. Thats not going to win people over Im afraid. Not in this era. Marvel typically manages to make these characters work and feel comicbooky without delving into corny/cheesy territory. At least, not in a cringey way. Thena gain, I haven't seen Aquaman. So i really don't know, but it seems to a recurring observation of the movie from what I have seen.

      I disagree on the MCU not having cheesy comedy. It does, a lot.

        if you are talking about stuff like Starlord's dance off, while yes it was cheesy, it worked because it fit with the entire tone of that film. As said to someone else, cheesy can easily become cringey. WHich is why they need to be careful

          It's not just Star Lord. Ragnork is one gigantic cheesefest. That movie felt like a live action cartoon in both a good and bad way.

            I wouldn’t consider Big Trouble in Little China cheesy. Objectively, I can look Ragnarok differently.

            I do think if they removed 20% of the humorous bits, it’d be a more solid movie.

            I know I mentioned this to you before, but after 3 movies, I still think the Russo Brothers (and after 4 movies, Markus & McFeely) have done the best balance for the characters. It’s probably why I put the Cap trilogy, Infinity War, (& Iron Man) as what I consider the MCU’s best movies.

            I think there’s a slight drop to what I’d consider the next 2-3 on my list. Around 10-20, I think there’s a much bigger drop in quality. I’d put Ragnarok toward the back half with the likes of IM2, IM3, & GotG2.

            I was talking about Ragnarok. Big trouble in little china is a product of it's time. And I don't have a problem with the amount of humor. I have a problem with the type of humor in that it's cheesy, slapstick crap that doesn't belong. I enjoy the cap trilogy except Cap 1, Iron man 1, Avengers 1 and to a lesser degree IW. Although I have some major problems with IW I liked the sense of urgency characters had.

            I thought First Avenger hit the character points pretty well for Steve. I definitely went from not being a Cap fan to being a MCU Cap fan by the end. The idea of what to name my son came from this movie.

            I definitely put Avengers right outside my top 5 (it shifts from spot 6 & 7). Multiple viewings of both that & IW, I’ve put IW above it.

            It’s interesting (or at least to me) Whedon’s Avengers set the MCU on a more lighter tone path, whereas IW (and probably Endgame) brings it back to more a Phase 1 feel.

            What did you end up naming your son? I actually don't like IW the more viewings of it I went through. Whereas the Avengers film has this magical quality to it. Also, I really dislike Cap 1 so I don't think I'll ever agree on it.

            We named him Evan. It’s partly as a nod to a friend my wife & I lost in 2014 to cancer. He was a huge Cap fan. Some of the other possibilities didn’t fit our criteria (not obscure, unique to our families, & we both have to agree). My wife & I really like Evans as Cap (plus the fact he’s a New England guy & Boston sports fan; the latter of which I am too, didn’t hurt either).

            Side note: we (sorta) named our daughter after my wife’s favorite Golden Girls character; Sophia.

            Losing Evans after Endgame is going to be the biggest contract expiration loss. RDJ got the ball rolling, but Evans had to sell Cap. I recall a discussion with a buddy of mine right before we saw First Avenger. We agreed if we couldn’t buy Evans as Cap, Avengers would fail. If Avengers failed, the whole MCU experiment would too.

            Cap is my favorite character in the MCU aside from Daredevil so you won't hear me say otherwise. I bought him as Cap in TFA but I didn't enjoy the movie. At all.

          what you call "cheesy" is actually "cringe" i could give you lots of examples of forced humor in every mcu movie, Doctor Strange is a good example of forced disney jokes interrupting a Marvel movie

            I don't watch every MCU movie that comes out so I honestly don't know. But just thinking about the ones that I have seen, I rarely see it delve into to truly "cinrgeworthy" territory. Like I said, the dance off thing worked in that film because the whole movie was just goofy but in a good way. I like Guardians as its own standalone film. The dance off thing works in that context. But some of my preferred MCU films such as Winter Soldier or Spiderman Homecoming also did not have a lot of cringe humor imo. I take it you disagree though. But I am not just talkinga bout humor though. When I brought up Wonder Woman, I was talking about how they didn't exactly handle Ares in the best manner. Or like how Ludendorf and Doctor Poison were rather campy at times.

            Well, i have seen them all, and most of the movies have bad, forced jokes most of the time.
            When i saw the dance scene in the theater i was embarrased, it fits the character yes, but it was awful anyway.
            Winter Soldier certainly did not have lots of humor and most of it was not shoe horned into the script, but i havent watched that movie in a while.
            Homecoming is the worst of all the Spiderman movies, nuff said, but the third act was good.
            WW third wact was bad, and the guy playing him was totally miscasted. I loved Doctor Poison, she should had more screen time, the other villain was inconsistent in tone, totally right there.

      "Plastic Man" alone sounds cheesy, but if it's a good, enjoyable watch, why not? I'm not excited for this whatsoever and more than likely won't see it in theaters, but I'll wait for a trailer to see if I'll have any more interest other than it being a DC movie.

      100% Wrong. You havent seen any mcu movie if you think they did not put bad jokes over story and characters, Thor Ragnarok being the best example of it. And yes, they are gonna copy the mcu formula, get used to it.

    I could understand if a director or script writer brought a great story to Warner Bros out of the blue, but this sounds like " Hey what hero's can we do in 2 years that Marvel hasn't done or isn't planning on doing".

        Honestly i can't recommend much as my exposure is mainly Morrison's JLA run where he made him a League member, the Injustice comics and the recent The Terrifics series and the recent Plastic Man mini series by Gail Simone. I've loved him in all that and its made me a fan, i will say check out Metal, he's barely in it (he's pretty much a Egg for the most part) but (Scott)Snyder gives him an air of darkness and tragedy in it what paints a different picture of him. Really though i just say check Gail Simone's recent mini series on him as its newbee friendly and more then just "jokes", its fun sure and a good laugh but its also serious and dark at times.

    ever since i saw plastic man in brave and the bold i fell in love with the charecter(no homo) so i almost jumped with joy hearing about a movie happening but why on EARTH do they hire a writer whose only writing credit is for a movies that has not even come out yet wtf. a movie like that needs good writing this isnt star wars this movie wont survive if the writer who got the job wats to put this gender and diversety, all that sjw agenda over a good story

    At this point one would assume that DC / Warner Brothers is just making a bunch of single Universe films such as Aquaman will be and its own universe and the same goes for all existing characters such as Shazam and Wonder Woman. I'm not against this movie at all Plastic Man is pretty sweet but I just don't see how this could fall into any type of plan that they have unless their plan is just to make random individual superhero movies which I'm fine with. Sometimes I think this is a better way to make them , I often find myself watching Marvel movies just to connect the dots to other movies.
