on Aquaman's Jason Momoa Is Just as Obsessed About the Snyder Cut of Justice League as DC Fans

Zack Snyder's cut of Justice League has been desired by many DC fans for over a year. They wanted it before the theatrical cut of the film was even released. Since then, stories about the Snyder Cut and whether we'll ever see it have become something of a legend.

As it turns out, fans are not the only ones with this obsession. Aquaman star Jason Momoa feels the same way. He wants to see the original vision of the director who first hired Momoa to play the DC hero in Batman v Superman and JL.

"I'm obsessed with it, too," Momoa told MTV. "That's one thing that sucks with our business where you just can't speak your mind, but yeah. F*** yeah I want to see it!"

Blunt honesty is not the only thing fans will appreciate about Momoa. This show of solidarity has to feel good even if it doesn't impact the chances of Warner Bros. actually releasing Snyder's cut of Justice League.

Should Aquaman continue to be successful, however, perhaps Momoa's influence with the studio will grow just enough to help make it happen. Doubtful, but dare to dream.

    Release the "Snyder Cut" as a comic with Zack in complete control.
    His storyboards from the film form a foundation for the comic panels.
    I imagine too an animated film with Zack directing would be successful.

      Considering 50$ of comics is dialogue and writing i can't say a "Snyder Cut" comic would be enjoyable. Maybe if Fabok done the art i might bite but otherwise nah, hell couldn't see selling well anyway as most DC comic readers really don't like Snyder's work.

            I’ll try to avoid a tiresome length.

            Visually, I think Zack Snyder is very good at translating
            comic panels into movie scenes (especially in the slow-motion stuff) and has a nice still-photography eye for filming. He seems to pay close attention to everything that’s going into every scene instead of taking the easiest, and sometimes most economical, approach when available. It’s obvious, in my opinion, that he takes a lot of pride in his work. His movies definitely have a signature on them (that I believe was noticeably different with Justice League, even though a lot of his stuff was used). You can tell it’s his. I also enjoy his more muted color palette. Depression made me see things in a much more muted tone for a long time – long enough to accept it as normal and comfortable.
            I embraced it easily.

            Character-wise, I can relate to some of the stuff portrayed
            in his Superman. From the ostracized kid to the existentially-lost young adult (that Chris Cornell song was a great choice for shirtless Clark emerging from the water in MoS), I connected with his depiction. As a fully-grown adult, it was really nice to see that kind of human vulnerability shown at length in a superhero – especially one as strong and iconic as Superman. Same goes for Batman. His was much more toxic. I thought that element fit really well with the use of an older, already-established Batman. I’m not really concerned with the whole killing-of-henchmen thing; it’s not that big of a deal for me. I’ve
            read a whole lot of different takes on Batman, and this is just another one that, I think, fits with the medium of movies (especially since Snyder’s inspiration was predominantly from a more adult version of the character).

            All in all, I was really enjoying a different approach to
            the characters. A majority of their depictions over various media tend to stick to a strict outline that mostly follows comic canon. I much prefer to see some changes made here and there. The whole original DC-movie universe was an intriguing plan that I really wanted to see play-out over the reportedly 5-movie original idea. I think these characters have plenty of versions for my kid self. It was really nice to have one for my adult self. Snyder was doing something we haven’t seen in these characters before in movies, and I trusted his long game to bring the more recognizable traits to them in the end.

            That’s the gist of it.

            Thanks for your long response. I was happy to ask the question. And sorry for the lateness of my reply.

            Just wanted to counter with my own response why I dislike the man so much.

            So, first, visually, I don't really think he deserves credit for that. It isn't anything special to tell your cinematographer/CGI team to replicate a panel from a comic book exactly. Watiti did the same thing on Thor 3, and Wan recently did the same thing with Aquaman. I disagree that he takes pride in his work, at least, I don't know how to reconcile that with him not growing at all as a director since 300. I also don't see his style as being distinct...it's just a lot of gratuitous slowmotion. I've suffered with depression a lot also, and so I can kind of understand why someone might like the muted colors, but that doesn't make it a right choice at all, and I think his films suffers for using it a lot.

            Character wise, the problem is, even if you could relate to the character they showed us, that character wasn't Superman, or at least it was too radical a departure from the character. Same with Batman. He was a terrible detective, drinking and taking pills to dull his pain....why put effort into making him comic book accurate costume wise but not in any other respect? I also don't understand why you can be flippant with regards to him murdering henchmen....yes, there are plenty of takes on batman, many elseworlds, but the point of all of them is to contrast with the main Batman. That doesn't seem to have been the point with this Batman, so what point does having him kill like that really serve?

            There is nothing wrong with different takes on heroes, but they should keep the core of the characters intact, and IMO Snyder fails to do that. More than that, he doesn't develop his characters in any way, nor does he really know how to use them to move the plot along. Issues with tone and characterization aside, I think he is honestly terrible at telling a story using the medium of film.

            You have some legitimate concerns and opinions I can’t argue against. I totally understand the 300 thing. Makes sense to think that.

            We just have very different ways of taking in movies and comics, I think. I’m cool with fictional characters being stretched in different directions to accomodate whatever story is trying to be told. I have decades-worth of canon to access if ever I want a piece of character authenticity (I think that’s the right word I need), but I completely understand why others prefer more cohesion with source materials - I was the same way for a long time.

          You ever been on the DC Comics Subreddit or Comicvine? Those guys really don't like Snyder's work and pretty much never talk about his stuff unless a fanboy comes along, they outright despise the DC Cinemantic Subreddit and regularly mock it, just to point out those guys are the hardcore comic crowd.

          End of the day most DC comic readers really don't like Snyder's work on DC, hell some of the comic reviewers on this site i think have expressed hatred of his work in the past on here. Of course you wouldn't know that as you don't follow DC unless its movie related or Snyder related.

            Most DC fans are older, some exceptions like me, participate more, but compare the amount of my posts with yours and the other fans who hate DC in theaters ... you live on the net hating anything from DC ... and so Marvel is "victorious" in the virtual world of ratings.

            Because in the world of relevance,, Marvel loses .... both in comics, animations, tv series and movies.

            Once again: nothing on Marvel beats Nolan, Donner or Snyder

Working in a shop what also does trade-in's i can you the majority of BVS sales of first month of release were those who missed it at the cinema or those wanting to watch the UC, within that month BVS was the DVD/Blu Ray traded in most as well and when asked why they said its because they didn't like it. Also life time sales aren't great for BvS as well but hey ignore that.

            I’ve been on DC Comics, and it seems actually 50/50 on posts that do mention Snyder. The last one I saw was about his Darkseid picture, and most of the comments there were of people upset that Darkseid was cut from the film. There was only one negative comment, it got downvoted.

            And also, how do you know that comic readers don't like his work? Do you think DC Comics subreddit represents the comic readers? And also, it's the comics readers. A lot of readers tend to not like things that aren't accurate. That usually happens whenever a director is adapting a popular story or franchise, the fandom hates it if the adaption isn't accurate enough.

Also, bvs included 30 min extra on blu ray, so even people like me who didnt like the theatrical cut went and bought it/torrent it to see if the movie could be fixed(it was still bad).

            Do you know how much is complete/incomplete? No. No one knows anything about what stage of development it was in. And going by the incomplete look of the CG from the theatrical cut, I’d say they rushed most of it last minute, suggesting Snyder might have already had a lot of different CG done or close to done.

            In modern comic book movies, there are hundreds of VFX shots. So a good chance 70% of the Snyder shots were incomplete but to be generous, let's say 50% weren't completed. So there's like 100 scenes.

    This won't go away any time soon so I would just release this cut to their streaming service, missing visual effects and all. Is not like it's going to make the movie look any worse then it already is in the eyes of everyone.

      That's exactly what I wouldn't want. I think it would benefit them and the fans more to sit on it for a few years. That way it's more likely to get finished and presented properly. Therefore profit off of it more effectively. Seems like throwing it out there would be a complete waste.

    The only thing i give a fuck about with the "Snyder Cut" is the Darkseid related stuff, other then that i've completely moved on from the film what is JL and i'm focusing on the much more promising future. Maybe others and Momoa should do the same.

            Don't take my opinion personally, it's mine...but that's the difference between you and mE, I don't care if people found MoS or BvS divisive, I liked the movies. I'm not one of the shareholders, I don't care what you or anyone else thinks of a movie.

            But maybe you're right, maybe more of Goyer's work was preserved from his time on the project and Terrio did the best he could with what he had...still nervous about that SW IX script though.

    The GA is completely indifferent towards this, and pretty much in the dark in regards to the whole fiasco.

    DC fans remain divided about the cut. There's those who enjoyed his work, and they require closure to his saga; meanwhile, there's those who hated Snyder and feel they already got their closure with his firing.

    Frankly, the GA/casual fans went about it in the best way. They're not involved in arguing nearly everyday about why a filmmaker is either the biggest piece of trash in existence, or the greatest thing since sliced bread. Both sides are embarrassing since they latch onto useless hyperbole & propoganda as the rest of the world just rolls their eyes at the absurdity.

    Who cares if somebody doesn't like Snyder? If you like him, feel free to do so! But understand that it's ok if others don't.

    And if you don't like him, why do so many of you give a crap if he posts shit about JL on Vero or whatever? You already got what you wanted when he was let go... so what are you so afraid of? Lol.

      Did you see his post on Thanksgiving? How fucking immature do you have to be to use a holiday to drudge up an issue that should have been laid to bed months ago?

      I want to move on, by god I want *all* of us to move on - to enjoy Aquaman, Shazam and WW84. Zack won't let us move on. And when people express their feelings on Zack and his universe, it incites the same level of warfare as politics does (Democrat vs Republican).

      You are right though - both sides are at fault.

        Ah, yes, when he bitched about not getting to release a three-hour movie. He's a serious egomaniac if he thinks he's earned carte blanche when it comes to runtimes.

        The last big studio film to reach 180 minutes was The Wolf of Wall Street (2013). Its director was fairly distinguished, I'd say. The longest big movies after that were Christopher Nolan's Interstellar (2h 49m) and Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight (2h 48m).

        Snyder think he belongs in that club. Jesus.
