As the latest installment from DC Films, one of the questions on the minds of fans is where exactly Aquaman fits in the larger universe. The film does include references to the title character's appearance in Justice League, though it largely stands on its own. According to star Jason Momoa, there was a strong connection to the Snyder cut of JL, which actually teed up Aquaman.
"I think I'm coming straight from Justice League," Momoa explains to Chris Van Vliet at the Aquaman press junket. "In Zack's cut, we had it where I was with Vulko and Mera and I say that I have to go home and they say there's this force coming that I need to help. I'm like, 'I'm going home to see my dad,' and so I get in the back of a pickup truck and pound a bottle of something and off he goes, the wanderer, you know what I mean?
"And so that was kind of the end of Justice League where I was going and then you cut to me coming home and run into a submarine."
That sounds like a really cool exit for Arthur Curry that might have left those who showed up to see JL much more curious as to what would happen next with that character. Regardless, Aquaman is tracking well enough for a solid box office opening. If audiences enjoy the movie as much as the first group of critics (myself included), then Warner Bros. should have a big hit with powerful legs to keep on swimming through the very competitive current of the holiday season.
