Fans will have to wait a bit longer for Gal Gadot's return as Wonder Woman. Warner Bros. just announced that Wonder Woman 1984 has been pushed back 7 months, from November 1, 2019 to June 5, 2020, a date that Warner Bros. already had reserved for a DC movie.

Warner Bros. President of Domestic Distribution Jeff Goldstein stated, “We had tremendous success releasing the first Wonder Woman film during the summer so when we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, we did. This move lands the film exactly where it belongs.”

Gal Gadot commented on the move on Twitter:

Super excited to announce that, thanks to the changing landscape, we are able to put Wonder Woman back to its rightful home. June 5, 2020. Be there or be square!!!

It was a bit odd having Wonder Woman 1984 open less than a month after Joaquin Phoenix's Joker (October 4, 2019). However, many fans were expecting The Batman to take the June 2020 release date, after director Matt Reeves stated that he hoped to start shooting in the spring or summer of 2019.

That said, it makes sense that Warner Bros. would want to release Wonder Woman 1984 in the summer again. They had a lot of success in that slot in 2017 with the first one.

Just saw this on Gal’s IG and my first thought was “YES!” Seems Warner Bros is finally thinking strategically. With all the competition December 2019, this puts Wonder Woman ‘84 in a better position to be as successful if not more successful than the first!

Wow, I'm surprised WB actually pushed a movie back. To give a movie more time to properly develop and mature is a rather smart move...and I'm not used to WB making smart moves.

    It's a worrying thought that I see more and more people that don't seem to know the difference between Warner Bros (the parent company) and a division of their studio like DC. You wouldn't be completely crazy to think the person who posted the comment you replied to genuinely thinks WB only makes DC movies. Damn that's scary.

  I heard from Grace Randolph that they also pushed the movie to use it as a tool to reboot the DCEU with additional shoots to be filmed with that purpose, i don't know how accurate that is but she has some reliables sources.

This is a good strategic move, but WB are working way too slow. 1 movie a year wont get the ball rolling.

    Yes, they do need to get the ball rolling to have the fans engaged in this universe. WB are big enough to work on multiple movies so we get at least 2 dc movies each year. Taking it slow doesnt equate to good movies, BvS came out 3 years after mos and look how that turned out. Marvel been releasing multiple movies a year with most of them being good.

        I actually weirdly agree with Nahuel. In 2017 Ragnarok was their best movie and that was honestly just ok. Gotg 2 sucks ass and Homecoming to me felt completely pointless. Same goes for 2018. IW was good but both BP and especially Antman 2 kinda sucked.

        Ragnarok was horrible, it must be THE superhero movie that most deviated from the source material, really it could have been called anything but "Thor" and it would have made more sense.
        GotG could have been good but the tone was awful.
        Homecoming felt like anything but a Spiderman movie with Parker in it.
        Antman 2 was awful, BP was decent.

        Maybe I love the medium of comics TOO much to want the films to be exact. Especially if we're to really buy into the concept of the MCU being a "Universe" that exists parallel to the comics. If I wanted the source material... I would read the source material. To adapt something literally means to change.

        I'm willing to share with others so they're all good for me. I even enjoyed Teen Titans Go to the Movies and just fast forwarded through the singing and rapping parts that are clearly not for people like me who are in their 30's/have no children.

        Yeah but is amount and style over quality and substance, the mcu is literally the macdonalds of the film industry right now. As a comic book fan i would love to get actual good comic book movies and not just a movie dumbed down for general audiences.

        I feel it's a fair trade off to getting 100-200 million dollar movies based on B-Listers I never thought I would see in movies in the first place. Not that I completely agree it's 100 percent fast food and dumbed down. The element is there but the other side of that is Reb Brown Cap and Nicholas Hammond Spider-Man.

        I just put it this way... It was a good ANT-MAN movie. Sure, I would have preferred they adapted Kirkman's Irredeemable Ant-Man and never really cared for Scott Lang. But I don't mind it's more family-friendly and a comedy. Maybe some fans would prefer a Hank Pym Ultimates Ant-Man where he back hands Janet and gets his ass kicked by Steve Rogers?

        Is bad even if you expect nothing, is just a bad movie, it is not better than BvS, Better than JL? That is a hard question because JL is atrocious, but it has little glimples of the movie that it was, Antman is all around bland bad and forgettable.

      I don't know man. Maybe we disagree on this but I'd rather have one great film per year. Than 1 good movie and then a bunch of mediocre padding. I feel like that's what the marvel movies have been nowadays. You get one good movie. Infinity War this case and then two other mediocre films like BP and Antman 2 which imo sucks ass. I'd rather just have one great film.

        Because of the simple concept that a rushed project will most likely come out sub par. And that's been the case for most MCU movies they release each year. Ragnarok was good but both Gotg and Homecoming where mediocre to bad. The same thing happened this year. BP and Antman 2 are mediocre to bad and IW is good. I'd rather get one great film per year than one ok-good one and a bunch of useless padding films.

        None of those films you mentioned were rushed(except for homecoming maybe). Having multiple movies a year doesn't mean that it was rushed, it simply shows great leadership with a solid plan. Some of those movies were bad because of the director and writers decisions, not because it was "rushed". Take BvS for example, it came out 3 years after mos, and by using your logic, it should've been a great movie since they took their time right? But it wasnt, in fact it was worse than all the movies you've mentioned.

Also, I assume the part where I said that it's more likely for a film that has taken it's time to be made to be better. Not that it's guaranteed. Plus, BvS isn't bad because of the time it took to make. It's bad because of the person making the film.

        And yes, a film is a product. If don't give it enough time to develop well it will suck if you give it enough time it won't or at least it's far more likely not to. Baring any interference or unforeseen circumstance.

      They need to get people on board with the characters and interested in the DC brand again before they will be invested in the universe. That will take a little time. It seems like they are kind of starting over in a way. The MCU wasn't pumping out 3 movies a year when it first started. And besides, its not like this "one movie a year" thing really seems to be lasting very long anyway. 2020 is set to have at least two movies as of now. WW and BoP. And while Joker might not be a DCEU film, its still a DC film and thus counts towards the presence of DC in cinema and altering the current perception of the brand

Its not that hard for a major studio to release multiple movies a year with good quality, Marvel is the perfect example. A big gap make people lose interest, especially since most people doesnt care much for DC at this moment. We still havent heard any good news on flash or even Batman. A mos sequel is not happening, meanwhile we get useless Harley movies.

        Its useless because they havent established every member of the league. Nobody asked for a BoP movie, im not saying it wont be good, but it should've been at the bottom of their priority list.

        It looks more like you're asking them just to copy MCU. I mean, they tried to focus on the members of the JL, but things got sidetracked. Robbie was working on BoP since they were making first SS. It's not her fault that other directors an producers couldn't achieve the same result. We've already had a slate, we had movies about main characters in development, it didn't work out. Because the don't have a Kevin Feige who would oversee the whole thing and make everyonr follow strict rules. And honestly, I don't think they should have one. Let's just make movies in which everyone belives in. So, if they' haven't found a team who can make a great Supes movie, then I don't want them to rush it into production.

I’d prefer a lot of movies with their own style that don’t have such a strong connection. I’m not against crossover movies or anything else, but I think every movie should come out when it’s ready.

        It's certainly way better than what/e the hell WB is doing now. . .

        Gotta disagree. Right now, a Justice League 2 should be the last thing on their priority list. If they'd done things right in the first place then yeah, obviously, but right now just putting out movies people actually like should be the priority over rushing into crossovers again.

        No where did i ask for a JL sequel, that would be a terrible idea. What im saying is that they should still focus on establishing the league, like flash, batman, superman etc by doing solo movies. The way i see it is that they're putting them in the back burner to give us multiple harley Quinn movies. If they want to start doing other movies they should do it with more interesting characters and leave Harley for ss2.

      How can you not associate it with DC? There is Joker, their most famous villain, there is Gotham, there is Thomas Wayne, who knows what else. Personally, I really don't care if it's not part of the DCEU. It's a movie based on the DC's characters, all I want from those movies is to be good, not to be from a specific universe.

        why? Personally I do not think they would have greenlit this film and titled it "Joker" if it was going to come off as something completely different. Its obviously not going to be exactly what we are used to it seems, but as of now it stills seems fairly identifiable as a movie about a DC character set in a version of the DC world

        No Batman, we have also been told Thomas has only 5 mins of screen time, no Gordon. We only have the Joker name and Gotham city.
        It just seems like we are going to be surprised by this film. I hope in a good way.

I agree, this movie is definitely a summer blockbuster, and it should be placed accordingly. Wonderful job by WB, they seem to have finally learned patience is key to these kinds of movies.

    Because movies dont get pushed back because the studio suddenly realized it can get a better date. They get pushed back due to issues with production. Film is way into production now, so what are they gonna do when it ends filming? Sit on it for 7 months? Stretch editing for 7 months? No, you dont do that.

  i see what you're saying, but i understand where others are coming from. For me, would i be going to the theaters? I'm not even sure I'll go see Aquaman in theaters. I'm just not as excited for this universe anymore. My excitement is on a downward spiral since JL's failure. Anyway, perhaps people are upset because the way WB are handling things now. Could 1 movie a year flow really work for a grand universe? Would it even be as successful as the MCU? Do you think people would have superhero fatigue by the time the DCEU picks up? Will WB cower every time an MCU film moves near them?   WB wants a grand universe, but they're not focusing on the pillars of DC which are Superman and Batman. Wonder Woman, the Flash, Aquaman, and Green Lantern can carry DC to new heights. Then, new heroes can be introduce. Instead, Wonder Woman is the sole pillar holding the DCEU. Here comes Aquaman and . . . Shazam . . . Then, they're wanting to introduce new heroes and all yet there are no plans for Superman? Freaking SUPERMAN! No plans. Yet they want a Supergirl film and new heroes but can't establish the main JL members . . . And no one really knows when the Batman will return. . . but they want to make movies of Joker, like, a different Joker that has nothing to do with the DCEU Joker. . . You know what I mean? It's all just one big pile of mess! And then the news we get, well, we get more bad news then good news.

    That's basically it in a nutshell. WB painted themselves into a corner. I still believe they are doing the best they can with what happened, however, it still feels like 'let's throw this at the wall and see what happens' is what we are getting.
    Giving Robbie her own birds of prey movie before JL Dark is a huge missed opportunity only because woman on screen is really really important right now.

      Robbie pushed for a while to make Birds happen. They didn't just immediately say yes the moment it was brought up. And ya the women thing is a factor especially for this genre. I don't know if I would hold that against them. Just seems like a smart move honestly. Plus they obviously want to invest in Margot Robbie since she is extremely talented and playing a very popular character that was received very well from her first on screen outing. Can you really blame them for moving forward with this project?
      But I have noticed that it really seems to just come down to personal preference with people around here. Like this character a lot? "Yes they are making a movie! Just what they need!". Don't care about this character? "omg what is WB thinking?? They are clueless! such a mess!". Thats really how it seems to go most of the time. JLD had a few people attached at various points but it never worked out. Birds, however, did. It doesn't really seem that complicated to me. Personally, i have stopped caring about the larger cinematic universe. I just want to see cool DC movies. I don't need them to be super structured like the MCU

And here is the thing with Superman...the unfortunate truth of the matter is, this character has not had a true winner since the first two Donner films. Sure Man of Steel made money, but it was divisive. In their mind, this character is problematic. Not saying they are right for dismissing him atm(im as frustrated about it as everyone else), but is it really so hard to understand WHY they have no plans for this character right now? They are clearly reassessing many things. And to go back to my initial question, the reason I do not personally view it as a mess is because it seems to me like right now they just want to make movies. Is that really so bad?

      To me, personally, it is that bad. But overall, it is bad. Along with Batman, when anyone sees the DC logo, they think of certain heroes, one of them being the 35th highest grossing media franchise ever as well as being one of the three most recognizable heroes around the globe. It ain't none of the Birds of Prey characters, Jack. It's ain't Harley Quinn either. And I believe a great Superman film will forever outsell a great BoP movie. In fact, a great Superman film can outsell a great Wonder Woman film. It really is that bad when you blame "Superman" rather than the decisions made. That's like giving up on Batman because BvS and JL. That's what WB is seemingly doing. Man of Steel wasn't a masterpiece but it wasn't terrible either. Could it have been better? Of course, like any film, but MoS really could have been MUCH better. Regardless, it was a success. BvS is where it all went downhill never to recover. Justice League didn't have the excitement Avengers had. It really didn't have anything except, oh look, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman in a film. Oh wait, I've seen this before . . . You know what I mean? It ain't Superman. It's the decisions made. And if they're not doing a shared universe anymore, you'd think they'd let it be known, right?

        As for Superman, nothing you say is untrue imo. But it goes back to what I was saying. From the perspective of the studio, they just can't seem to figure out how to make this character work. Which would appear to be why they are reassessing. And it is possible that, in their mind, Cavill's superman simply did not work. Which, yes, would be severely disappointing if that were the case. I never said Supes was the problem. I said the STUDIO thinks that he is the problem. I know its frustrating. But I don't think the entire thing is a giant mess just because they can't figure out one character(even if it is a major character). Can you really blame them for wanting to invest in this? Margot is an extremely talented oscar nominated actress playing an extremely popular character who was very well received in her first cinematic outing. You also have the higher demand for female lead superhero films and the fact that marvel has yet to do anything quite like this. Its not so hard to put two and two together and see why they are moving forward with that project. Compared to Superman, on the other hand, who is not quite in that same position unfortunately.         okay so your problem clearly goes a lot deeper than them just putting superman aside for the time being. Not much i can really do to help you there. You are spouting a lot of completely subjective opinions my dude. A lot of people really like Jason Momoa's Aquaman, or even Ezra Miller's flash. But I am mostly talking about the future of the franchise. Ya OBVIOUSLY we all know the initial version did not work out in many ways. Doesn't mean certain things can't be changed or tuned up a bit to make it work better.
        They seem to be reassessing and probably starting over in a sense. Taking things a bit more slowly and gradually will try to build this franchise back up again. If that means less movies for a while, so be it. Batman is still coming. Flash is still coming.. Gl Corps is still coming. But they will come when they are ready. Which seems to be their plan moving forward. Which is why you are seeing movies like Birds of Prey or Joker being greelit before some of those others.. Its just of if it is a project the studio deems interesting enough to invest in, and when it will be ready. If you have such a problem with this, idk what to tell you. But that doesn't make it inherently a bad decision just because you personally disagree with it.
        And again, your interest in a film like Birds of Prey is completely subjective. I don't need statistics. i am just using common sense man. Harley Quinn is a REALLY popular character. The movie comes out close to valentine's day. And considering the praise that WW got for being the first female lead superhero blockbuster, it seems pretty obvious that people want to see more of that. You really do not think there aren't plenty of women out there who want to see more female comic book characters? Or hell, even men who would like to see some of their favorite female characters brought to life? I literally know some people who went to that movie simply because it had a female in the lead(as in these people do not normally go to comic book movies but went to this one because of the character featured). Its really not that hard to connect the dots here. Superman is iconic, but iconic =/= popular. I honestly really do not know which of these characters has more potential at the box office. Man of Steel had a lot going for it because it had Christopher Nolan's name attached to it(also the director of 300 which is a very well known film). Yet despite that and the fact that Man of Steel got "okay" reviews and was generally seen as decent among the majority I would say, Suicide Squad, the first on screen debut of Harley Quinn, still made more money than it despite having terrible reviews and generally being considered a pretty bad movie. I am not saying Birds will for sure be better than whatever female ensemble Marvel ends up doing, but if it IS really good, it has the advantage of being the first which is something that DC has been having to deal with from marvel for a while now. Its all about the novelty factor. I am interested in seeing how Captain Marvel does compared to Wonder Woman now that the hype of being the first female lead blockbuster superhero film has been taken. Maybe my theory is wrong and CM will end up doing just as good or even better. But then again, marvel has a much more established and dedicated fanbase and this is leading into Avengers 4 so it may be an exception. We'll just have to see.
        So ya your argument is based heavily around the fact that the DCEU "right now" is a mess. Well ya, we can all agree with that. But that doesn't mean the future of the franchise is.
        And again, nobody said the movies would no longer be connected. They probably just won't be super focused on that for a while. They will be in the same universe, but the stories will be mostly standalone I imagine. I am still not seeing the issue here as you did not really say what exactly the issue with this is.

        Of coirse the sales werw high sonce it provided more footage of bats and supes. A lot of people returned it after though. It was better received than the TC, but that doesnt make it food.

        Audience reactions? Sorry but a handful of people saying they liked it on the internet counts for shit. Sales figures are misleading, i work in one of the bigger media stores in the UK and the first month of BvS home release was are highest selling DVD/Blu Ray but it was also are most traded in new film that month as well. You forget a large portion of those who brought it didn't see it at the cinema or were those wanting to check out the Ultimate Cut, my Dad for instance never saw it at the cinema so he got the Blu Ray to watch instead (and he didn't like it so he sold it a month later).

This site alone has a few people using multiple account and pretending they are all unique people. Payed Critics are usually critics because they know what the fuck they are talking about, they care more then just a warehouse fight or pretty visuals. End of the day there's actually way more facts to show people don't like BvS then there is that people do, the fact DC films as a whole is in such a sorry shit state is because of the audience reactions to BvS and how it performed.

        There’s actually no fixed numbers on the critical reception of the UE. All we know for sure is that it was definitely better received than the theatrical version across the board. I would say significantly so.

        Well I mean I know of people who HATED the theatrical version but became actual fans of the UE. From what I can see, the UE was liked quite a bit more, especially in comparison to the theatrical, but there’s no way we can see the actual response unless RT makes a separate page for that, unfortunately.

        The UE was liked more thats for sure, but thats not saying much since the TC was horrible. I know people that hated the TC but thought that the UE was better, but they still thought that the movie was bad, just better than what was in theaters. If the UE was such a hit and made people do a 180 on how they perceived the the TC, then WB wouldve probably let snyder do his thing for justice league without interfering since it was supposedly their fault for turning a great movie into a bad one. Dont you think?

        Not only the critics opinion is negligible when you compare it with the amount of audience who vote, but moreover their system is confusing since you have to give at least 6/10 to be "fresh", which means that even if the real score from the critics mattered it would be 49% and not 27%. This critics system has a failure since if everyone give less than 6/10 then you have 0% and if everyone give just 6/10 then you have 100%

        Raging Bull never won Best Picture and Scorsese never won for Best Director (in fact he didn't win an Oscar until 2006 so think about that) but you seriously telling me Ordinary People and Redford deserved it over them? Also Citizen Kane one of if not the greatest film ever made never one Best Picture and didn't even win for Best Director for Welles and Best Cinematography and Editing despite how fucking amazing and mind blowing it was and still is while putting most modern movies to shame even now. I don't mind the Oscars but history has shown they get it more wrong then right most of the time.

        Might be worth noting that Citizen Kane was a financial failure AND critically lambasted, just like A Wonderful Life, Blade Runner, Alien, Predator, Man of Steel, and BvS.
        Marvel is like Home Alone and Transformers, big money movies that are completely void of artistic merit aimed squarely at the lowest common denominator.
