Aquaman is just about two months away, and the first TV spot is here.
In the new commercial above, we see more of the humor that we saw in the extended trailer earlier this month. "You that fish boy from the TV?" a man in a bar asks Aquaman. "It's fish man," he replies.
There's lots of quick shots of new action including Aquaman and Mera as well. Check out all the new footage in the video above.
Aquaman hits theaters on December 21st.

Thanks to the power of the Marvel brand and the trust they’ve earned from audiences over the years. DC doesn’t have that luxury.
Yeah, but they swallow anything at this point, i have read people saying that Ant-Man and The Wasp... Is a good and funny movie. I am not kidding.
Ant man and the wasp wasn't as bad as people are making it out to be. It was decent enough.
It was pretty bad, it had the same problem as Deadpool 2: it was designed based on what people liked about the first movie instead of just telling the story that it was needed. Both movies repeat the same jokes about the same stuff, and the jokes are awful, the story is bare bones thin, the "villain" was awfully paper thin, it had no soul, no purpose, it was ridiculous.
Word of mouth or not,BvS was big enough by name to hit a billion. 420m on opening weekend was more than enough to propel the movie to 1 billion. It fell on its face so hard and that it's unbelievable.
Fun fact, that 420 million opening was bigger than Avengers AoU, and that ended up making 1.4 billion. If BvS had been any good, it would have made Avengers 1 type of numbers. It's fucking crazy how much money BvS left on the table purely due to the fact that it sucked.
I didn't even know that its opening was bigger than auo.....wow that's just sad, and people still thinks that BvS was successful box office wise. Also, BvS is the only movie to open this big and not hit 1b +.
To be clear, the domestic opening weekend was smaller than AoU, but the ww opening wasn't. I'd have to check, but I'm pretty sure BvS' opening day (domestically) was also bigger (or very close to) AoU numbers. Just goes to prove how much negative word of mouth affected its box office grosses. And then people still deny BvS wasn't well liked by mainstream audiences. Smh.
I checked, AoU opened with 84 million on Friday, BvS with 81 million. That being said, BvS actually made slightly more from Thursday night previews. Again, this just proves how soon and how much WOM affected the box office. If BvS had been as good as Ultron, it would have DEFINITELY beat it.
I personally didn't like aou, but it felt like a superhero movie and I was entertained. Wish I could say the same for BvS. Anybody that is not blinded by fandom can see that BvS underperformed in a major way. Only kouglof, nahuel, and homani thinks that 870 was a massive success.

I dont think it was a success, i think is a good movie, i dont care about "preofessional" critics who ironically dont know about filmmaking think, and even less about casual audiences that cant even know where they are standing. Besides they released a butchered cut that made the whole movie feel rushed and without pacing.
But is a mature, layered, dark and serious 3 hour personal decontruction of the two biggest superheroes ever, is insane that they even let Snyder do such a thing, of course it was not gonna do great at the box office, if WB/DC wanted just a sucessful but brainless comedic popcorn flick they should have get a director/mercenary for hire to make a souless cookie cutter product instead.
I am sad that because of the lack of success they expected from it we did not get the real Justice League movie, really stupid of the suit people to change stuff at the last minute like that.

People were disappointed for much more than that. The whole film was a mess.
I actually watched ID2 again last night. It is legit a much better film.
ID2 was bad, but it was entertaining. When you have Batman v superman in the title,people expect to be entertained, that's why the Transformers movie managed to be successful even with terrible reviews.
ID2 has a coherent plot from start to finish. The plot was not that entertaining and some of the acting was meh, and the pacing could be better, but it was a legit better than BvS in all those regards, as well as CGI IMO.
There was nothing as cringey as Zuckerlex or jars of pee in ID2 either.

Yup, the movie was joyless and hopeless with no fun. People were bored out of their minds wondering when things would get better and it never did.
Bullshit, watch the movie again, it has plenty of "Hope" in it, and it also has joy, if you all people are gonna critizice something you need to be objetive first. Also, better does not mean action and jokes all the time, the movie was something else.
Nobody mentioned jokes or action, the MCU has nothing to do with bvs failure. The story and plot of BvS sucked and was a big fat mess. The only hope I had while watching was for the movie to end sooner than it did, and the only joy I had was the strip club I went to just to get wasted and forget that my favourite hero was ruined.
So what do you think the movie needed to get "better"?
The movie is not perfect, it feels like 3 movies into one, -MoS sequel, Batman reboot/TDK movie, Batman and Superman clash movie and prequel to the JL- probably because of producers meddling to rush to JL, but still it was handled pretty well, and i did not find any problem with the story at all beyond Batman and Superman getting along too soon after the Martha moment.
The more i think about it and watch random scenes from it, the more i like it, like Watchmen it seems to get better with time.
The.movie needed more character development for Batman instead of cramming multiple storylines into one, the pace of the movie was too slow, they ruined what could've been a great reveal on how lex find out the heroes identities and much more. It was full of missed opportunities to get the audience to actually care for what happened during the movie. Watchmen does get better with time, BvS on the other hand get worse(for me of course).
-What more character development you need? Batman arc was fine, they did crammed too much stories into one, but it was handled fine, the movie had an epic scope.
-The movie was not too slow at all, maybe you should see some really "artsy" movie like indie stuff around the world, or 2001 or old movies, hollywood movies are way too fast in their pace, not all movies need it, i can see why general audiences would think that, but you might be used to just commercial movies, just an assumption and not an insult or anything like that.
-About the secret identities, i think it was kinda meta, maybe it was needed, but i did not have any problem with it: it would be really easy, i suppose, in "the real world" to find out who Superman and Batman are, and Lex is very smart so is not much of a strecth, even less in modern times where everything is connected digitally.
I think that audiences are in a different state of mind as to accept what BvS has to offer, that we got a mutilated cut of the movie instead of just releasing the complete cut at once certainly did not helped at all, i mean the movie was already made, no point on cutting footage, if they wanted something more easy to process and more "fun" for the audience they should have think it twice before hiring the one person that is not gonna make movies for the widest possible audience.
Watchmen is a work of art, i wish i could see the Ultimate Cut on theaters, it gets more relevant every year, is awesome, i find out new things with each viewing just like with the comic book.

People expected the typical mainstream sauperhero movie filled with action scenes, and tehy got something very different, something that they are not used to get, that is why all the bitching comes, also the Riddler was not in the movie, wtf are you saying, everyone sad?.
I could swear this site has the exact same conversation once in at least every week: Luthor was good and it resembled a lot its comic book counterpart in mentality, but it was also a new and modern take in the character, and it worked for me, the comments that say that acted like the Joker and shit make no sense.

BvS was absolute trash Chris. You and others liked it, fine, but it got absolutely wrecked by critics and audiences largely rejected it, as evidenced by the *record setting* epic second week drop off. It is still mocked to this day.

I just think cause it's holiday season, and this looks like a good family movie to take kids to. I can definitely see it making WW money. I don't think the DC brand is tainted in that regard. But yeah it's a gamble at the moment. Interesting to see what actually happens.

DC never made anything under 665 because nothing came after JL lol. Aquaman nwont flop, but it won't make 800m that's for sure, maybe 650m since it's opening will be smaller than JL.
But I mean I think we can expect Aquabro to do 665 worldwide at least, so a jump to 801m isn't that far fetched given time of year and that I think this will do far better in Asia than any other DC movie, by a large margin.

If you think families will be going to watch Aquaman over Mary Poppins or Bumblebee then you probably don't have kids of your own. Aquaman not only is going to be facing 2 big box office challenge with those two films coming out on the same week, it also won't have the woman card like WW did or the positive reviews because of it. If Aquaman makes over 700M it will be considered a major success and that's a big if when the JL couldn't do it.
Kids like Superheroes more than Bumblebee, and Mary Poppins appeals to a more narrow age bracket. Besides, this will do much better in China than any other super hero movie released so far.

Although I agree with you re BvS, Aquabro is still a 50/50 regarding box office earnings on this film. Even if it is a GREAT film, DC is tainted by Snyder's BvS and Justice League. The trailers are helping, I imagine, but we will see if it is enough to wash the bad DC past away and people take a chance on DC again.

Because those were both darker and more mature/unorthodox superhero flicks and yet weren't panned. The notion that people didn't like BVS because of some bias against darker superhero movies is and has always been an excuse.
Yes, too many stories at once was a flaw of the movie and i can see why casual audiences might have felt lost in the narrative, but i could follow it perfectly and had no problem with it, i can totally see why general audiences could have not liked the movie, is not of easy digestion.

Casual movie goers want loud noises and flashy images, something to distract them from the world while they eat popcorn for two hours, they see cinema as just temporary entertainment and nothing else, you give them something different, they dont go see it, like Blade Runner 2049.
The marketing for BvS was not very good, i will give you that, they had no idea how to promote the movie (which is understandable since they want them a popcorn blockbuster but Snyder delivered something beyond that) so the trailers were pretty weird, specially the one who tells you the whole movie.
I get that, but when you have a movie called BvS, you can't be mad at people expecting a fun action packed movie. Blade Runner flopped because nobody showed up, not because of its quality, audience and critics gave it a 80+ on RT.

Watchmen Ultimate Cut, Mad Max Fury Road and Blade Runner 2049 are some of the best stuff hollywood has released in decades, hard to believe they came from hollywood (just a comment). Both BvS and BR2049 are non mainstream movies, BvS was supposed to be more general audiences friendly but thankfully we got something better.

BvS is the second installment of new universe, after multiple reboots of Superman or Batman movies. Aquaman is the sixth movie of the DCEU, a new DC hero never seen before in live action too. More you have movies from a universe more it works, like proves average movies like Ant-Man 2. I'm not saying it's going to make 1 billion, but maybe more than expected... + China...

WW and SS were alternate stories that acknowledged what happened in BvS, but they didn't directly follow it's storyline like JL.

Point is JL directly follows the BvS storyline: Batman recruiting JL members (which was hinted at the end of BvS), Steppenwolf (also hinted at the end of BvS), parademons, bringing Superman back to life, etc.
SS was focused on a team of characters that didn't appear in BvS and WW was an origin movie that was focused only in WW. That's why people were interested in those movies and not JL, which was the continuation of the terrible BvS movie.
Not sure why that's so hard to understand for you. Even the name "Dawn of Justice" suggests it's a JL prequel.

Hal Jordan Green Lantern is not a character who is that appealing, and if you add Power Rangers level stories to your characters, it won't make it better. Reading Geoff Johns is kind of mandatory to me since I read CB like Justice League, I can't avoid this generic and unoriginal writer... But you know what is the worst? I had more pleasure to read a CB like "Daredevil: Redemption" from a less popular CB writer like David Hine, and from the competitor, than reading any of the repetitive and boring DC stuff from your beloved Goeff Johns. Bro, nobody showed up for.opening weekend, and it wasn't due to "a CGI mouth that was leaked. People didn't care anymore period. People knew exactly who.was Zack Snyder after bvs. Peoples reaction to the CGI mouth came after and not before opening weekend. Even if BvS was panned before it's release, people still showed up due to curiosity, then the second weekend drop showed how.the audience felt. JL never even had a chance but still managed to have better legs than BvS.

BvS wasn't a reboot, it was the follow up to MoS, which made $668M. The introduction of a new Batman and WW only raised people's interest.
Again, BvS could have crushed the billion mark if it had good word of mouth. It was almost half way there after it's first weekend, but word of mouth killed it and had a gigantic drop, and never recovered.
You can make all the excuses you want, but a big opening followed by a big drop says it all. That movie had no legs because people didn't like it.

I cannot imagine a casual audience or comic book fan disliking MoS, i can see why some people, specially general audiences, would not find BvS appealing, but MoS? Besides is not like the director usually makes polarizing films that i would not even call mainstream or popcorn flicks... Snyder movies are not general audiences friendly, and i have yet to see one of his movies that is actual crap, the weakest one being the one with the owls and is not that bad either.

Batman alone made $1 billion back in 2008. Adjusted for inflation, that is about $1.3 billion today.
Aquaman probably won't reach the $1B mark because very few movies do, but don't be so sure that it will flop.

I see a lot of people here downplaying Aquaman's potential box office. Which is fair. But, this looks great and it looks like visual spectacle unlike any we've seen. I don't think this movie will make a billion but tbh, this is a film I feel has the potential to do crazy numbers.

But China decides the release schedule, Aquaman was never going to compete directly against Bumblebee (unlike in the US). WB had nothing to do with it and certainly didn't try to "avoid" it.
China decides the release schedule and they tend not to like having too many American films released in too close a proximity. Getting your film to play at all in China is a hat trick because they've been increasingly trying to cap the number of foreign releases so as to not be upstaged (The Chinese authorities were reportedly really upset when a Japanese anime adaptation lit the Chinese box office on fire a few years back).

They have a December blackout so it was either releasing in late January early February with everyone else ( Bumblebee,Spiderverse,Alita...) or have the whole month to itself by releasing it before the cutoff.

WW didn't hit 1b with a 90+ on RT, plus an agenda behind it. Everybody was promoting it, the first lady, Oprah, deadpool, Thor, cap, and many more actors and actresses, and it made 820m.
Actually, WW over performed in the u.s, making it look like it underperformed overseas. 400m+ is a pretty good number. People were shocked when it crossed 300m domestically.
SS was a team up movie with will smith, joker, and a cameo from Batman plus Harley Quinn. Black panther was loved in cw and was the movie before infinity war, not to mention that it's a marvel movie which is a brand that people trust. WW came from a dying franchise that threw people off after BvS, plus a female lead doesn't sit right in some territories and this whole girl power movement was useless overseas. Therefore 400m overseas is pretty good since it should've made around 280m domestically. WW over performed by at least 100m domestically.

I think this will do big in international box office. An epic visual fantasy-underwater-disaster movies always make big money overseas. Although since it’s a superhero movie, it might make more than usual and double what this genre usually makes.

Not really, Hollywood blockbusters make a lot of money worldwide, in all countries. China is just the biggest foreign market: soon the Chinese box office will be #1, bigger than the US+Canada.
But there are certain kinds of movies that do better in certain parts of the world, maybe because it resonates more to their culture. I cant remember any specific example now though.
ive noticed superhero movies never seem to do that great in Japan. Yet movies like Titanic or Avatar or Jurassic World do extremely well there. I wonder if they just aren't really into superheroes...

Super weak in star power/BO draws, a stigma which has followed the Aquaman character for years, coming off a huge flop with JL, only generating very moderate interest to this point, and doesn't have the benefit of being as eventful/gender-breaking as the first WW movie leaves me doubting that it will come anywhere close to reaching those figures.
Even IF it can become as critically acclaimed as WW, I still only see it maybe making JL or MoS dollars at best.

Yup, it's a shame. Unfortunately, I think after WB fumbled so badly with their marquee event in JL, I don't see how they can recover in time to salvage any kind of CBM universe in the immediate future.
I feel like Batman is probably the only one with any true sustainability atm; I think they will continue to shy away from anymore Superman movies for years (much like they have with GL); I can see Aquaman being a well liked movie, but I still question how much $$$ it will ultimately generate; Wonder Woman will likely get a trilogy, but then be done; I highly doubt that most of the titles being tossed around at WB will ever actually get made; projects like BoP will probably be a one & done; WB is so behind now that I doubt if we ever see another JL including Gal, Jason, Henry, or Ezra.
I also seriously wonder if the Flash will ever break free from development hell. And if it does, will anybody even really care by that point? I mean, if all this never culminates into a full-on connected universe like initially advertised, will audiences just shrug it off without that ultimate payoff?
At this point, I can see Reeves getting his Batman trilogy (which will likely wind up being fully standalone), and Wondy might get to finish hers, and that's about it. I don't see the fever for this DC cinematic universe ever reaching the levels prior to BvS. For that to happen, it will likely have to be in like 10 yrs with completely new actors, writers, producers, directors, etc. because sadly, I think they missed/messed their opportunity this time around.
