Joaquin Phoenix is a happy clown in new 'Joker' set photos

A few weeks ago we saw Joaquin Phoenix have a breakdown in a phone booth while wearing a clown costume on the set of Joker. In the latest batch of set photos, he appears to be going through much happier times.

Daily Mail shared new Joker set photos that were taken this weekend, which show Phoenix as a clown holding a sale sign. He can be seen smiling and dancing around on the streets of New York City. Head on over to Daily Mail to see more.

Joker is currently filming in New York City through the end of the year. The movie hits theaters on October 4, 2019.

We don't know yet. A scene like that would likely be shot inside a studio, so we wouldn't get set photos of it.
If I had to guess, I'd say "no" though.

    I can respect that. :) It's a classic, and it has appeal in it's own way.
    My favorite take on the Joker is a guy who is trying to make a cynical, twisted point about human nature, not necessarily that he's outright crazy (he just appears that way). So applying make-up is a theatrical thing that's symbolic of his MO.
    To me, this is like Batman putting on the cowl and cape to make his point. They're counter-foils to one another's philosophical/psychological points. So the willful act of applying make-up as opposed to simply being made white by accident is a more active (and therefore more potent) way of expressing his opposition to what Batman represents.
    I know that seems like a small thing to make into a big deal, but I guess I'm just like that. lol
    Either way, I still enjoy the perma-white for what it is. :) I won't be complaining.

      I have always viewed the Joker as one with ultimate love for theatrics. I like to think that once he saw his white face after falling in the vat, he applied the red lipstick and dyed his hair green to not only remind himself of the past but to become the clown he always wanted to be. I think simply applying red lipstick can be very symbolic. I hope he jumps in.

      Joker simply being an 'act' and not being crazy I think misses the point of the character, and takes away from him being the polar opposite of Batman. It also removes the thread, or vastly minimizes it in the sense he can be cured, or simply jailed.
      The thing with the chemicals also is that Batman created the Joker, and I think that is a very important aspect that should not be lost, but I am open to other takes like Ledgers.

      Batman can also create the Joker by inspiring him via his theatrical approach in trying to impact the world in a meaningful way. It's the escalation Gordon warns about at the end of Batman Begins.
      I also disagree about the polar opposite thing. Being crazy removes the ability for the Joker to make a point that would create a reasonable pause in somebody who isn't crazy. It's too easy to write him off as a loon. But if he's come to these conclusions in a real way and really believes the world is irredeemable, that places him in a position that can make him a true counter-point to Batman's worldview in that Batman must prove him wrong instead of simply dismissing him as just another nut (but with a clown gimmick). Anyone can be nuts. The Joker sees things a particular way (it's not an act).
      The visage of the Joker becomes more symbolic in this way too, because it makes a sardonic statement about his worldview instead of just being a colorful reflection of him being nutty.

      That's not Batman creating the Joker though, but rather influencing him, which is the same for many of his other rogues. With Joker, Batman actually created him and him alone, and I think that adds to his being his worst enemy.
      The problem is he has to be crazy to do what he does and to come to the flawed conclusions he has. He isn't just a loon, he is completely and utterly broken and detached from reality. If he was sane but just 'making a point', I mean...I don't see how you could argue he is sane and doing the stuff he does, at least in the comics. The absolute lack of empathy alone would not be indicative of someone sane.
      I disagree makeup becomes more symbolic. His bleached white skin and green hair were not his choice, and is a constant reminder of his 'one bad day' that broke him. Anyone can put makeup on and start killing people.
      I can appreciate your take much as I disagree.

      I mean, yeah, I'm talking about my favorite takes or my ideal possible future interpretation. I know the Joker has been written as a literal nutball for decades, but I also think other versions have been less goof and had more of a dark logic to them.
      And I think I wasn't specific enough: I don't think they aren't crazy at all, but just lean more toward a philosophical stance than being nothing *but* crazy for crazy's sake. I like the former more. Ledger's Joker tickles my fancy the most.
      This might surprise you, but I'm actually not that wild about most versions of the Joker. I usually find him to be boring, and sometimes even annoying, and not in an entertaining way. (Leto's springs to mind.)
      I didn't even really care that much for him in BTAS until Mask of the Phantasm. Blasphemy, I know! lol
      Bless Mark Hamill and his fantastic talent though. :)
      Also, I should acknowledge that I realize my preferred style of Joker is not the most common interpretation. I'm okay with being in the minority. I just like what I like.

      Which versions would you say had a dark logic to them? Morrisons?
      I like them being completely crazy and deluded, but still able to carry out goals and plans. That's in line with Morrisons, Snyder's, Moores and Ledgers joker, IMO.
      I don't like Joker that much either honestly. I think he tends to be misused more often than not. I liked him in TKJ, liked him beating Robin to death, liked what Morrison did with him....thought Snyder made a parody of him....Ledger was OK..worked for the film but too different from the character I know.
      But this is all personality. I still don't like the idea of hiim being sane enough to just decide to adopt a costume. That is to me too close to batman instead of being a contrast. I like that his costume is not a choice and what broke him, but that's just me.

      I think we basically like the same approach to Joker (you basically listed my favorites); I just suspect he's less crazy in those than he puts on. ;p
      Again, I want to re-specify that I don't want him to be not crazy at all, because obviously he's got to be crazy to some extent as you said, but I just don't like the typical, goofy take where he's nothing *but* crazy. I prefer someone who has a point to make, and his machinations have purpose. That's what I mean by dark logic. Those examples you listed have a heavy focus on that stuff.
      So what didn't you like about Scott Snyder's Joker? I wasn't wild about the face removal thing, seemed corny to me, but I let it go because I enjoyed Vol. 3 and Vol. 7 of Snyder's Batman quite a lot. Nothing's ever perfect, and I've come to accept that everyone has different approaches to things than I would, so it takes a lot for me to poo-poo on someone like Snyder.

Whatever the story or plan is, they seem all freaking in on doing it with a top notch actor. Seeing this wacky whatever with Phoenix doing it, this is gonna be a heck of a show.

Only kids can praise Power Rangers level CB like you do. With your previous comments about how you wish Aquaman to sink, you're mosty anti-DC... no it's worse in fact I think you're not even able to judge a movie by yourself, you act in correlation with bloggers opinion, you will hate this Joker movie if it has a bad score and love it if it has a good score.

How anything can happen to anyone to become bad person for a lot of reasons and this movie is how it happened with his life and to his mind and how people believe with you and other people and how people deal with life that was put in this joker movie
