Justice League from Scott Snyder, Jorge Jimenez, and Jim Cheung has been one of DC’s most consistently enjoyable titles since it launched a few months back. With snappy dialogue, great characterization, and some of the best looking art in the business, Justice League should be near the top of your stack every two weeks if it isn’t already.
This fall, the League will crossover with the Aquaman title for the “Drowned Earth” arc, which has both ancient sea gods and alien mercenaries popping up to cause no end of trouble for the world’s greatest heroes. Not only that, but each issue of the story will feature a cover inspired by the upcoming Aquaman film, and the artists involved are truly an embarrassment of riches: Francis Manapul, Nicola Scott, Ben Oliver, and Francesco Mattina, just to name a few. In celebration of Warner Bros Pictures highly anticipated filmAquaman, debuting in theaters nationwide on December 14, all of DC's DROWNED EARTH issues will feature variant covers with art inspired by the upcoming feature film.
The first two Aquaman-themed movie variant covers, Francis Manapul's JUSTICE LEAGUE/AQUAMAN: DROWNED EARTH #1's variant and Francesco Mattina's JUSTICE LEAGUE #11 variant, make their debut here, with covers by Ben Oliver (AQUAMAN #42, on sale November 21)), Lucio Parillo (JUSTICE LEAGUE #12, on sale November 21), Dale Keown (AQUAMAN/JUSTICE LEAGUE: DROWNED EARTH #1, on sale November 28) and Nicola Scott (AQUAMAN #43, on sale December 19) to be revealed later.
The saga begins with JUSTICE LEAGUE/AQUAMAN: DROWNED EARTH #1 by James Tynion IV and Howard Porter, on sale October 31.This 48-page one-shot introduces the Ocean Lords—ancient and powerful deities with an axe to grind against both Aquaman and Wonder Woman and a plan to flood the world. As the rest of the League races to stop the waters from rising, Arthur faces off against his nemesis Black Manta in a must-win battle if he is to retain his connection to the world’s oceans. The story continues in JUSTICE LEAGUE #11, on sale November 7.
While waiting for this exciting event to kick off in November, don’t miss October’s month-long WONDER WOMAN/JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK: THE WITCHING HOUR, also written by James Tynion IV. This five-issue event kicks off this Wednesday, October 3, with JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK/WONDER WOMAN: THE WITCHING HOUR #1.
