on PG-13 version of 'Deadpool 2' will go head-to-head with 'Aquaman' in December

Aquaman just got even more competition.

Fox announced today that they will release a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 on December 21st. That's the same day that Aquaman is scheduled to hit theaters. The original, R-rated version of Deadpool 2 came out on May 18th.

Aquaman was already in a tough spot, surrounded by huge movies this Christmas season. I really think that Warner Bros. should consider pushing it back to 2019 if it wants any chance at Aquaman being a box office success.

  • December 14: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
  • December 19: Mary Poppins Returns
  • December 21: Aquaman, Bumblebee, Deadpool 2

Remember, this is Aquaman. He's a joke to the mainstream. Most people will be turned off by the title alone and when they have tons of other options, including a more family-friendly version of the beloved Deadpool franchise, I'm nervous about Aquaman.

What do you make of Fox releasing a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 the same day that Aquaman hits theaters? Do you think Warner Bros. should push the movie back to 2019 to give it a better shot at the box office? Let me know in the comments below.

Good, I want Aquaman to bomb. Trailer was a dumpster fire and Momoa can't act if his life depended on it.

The ideal move would be to push it to Feb to compete with X-Men since so many people are not liking the idea of a possible repeat of The Last Stand. Basically say to FOX "F- You Back"! Que no? Jack where are you JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They moved Dark Phoenix to June.

    2. ZaQueerdo Avatar

Dark Phoenix is already moving to June because of Alita. That's the whole reason for this switcheroo in the first place.

Putting Deadpool 2 in December was not a fuck you to DC and I don't know why people are insisting it is.

Ive been reading reports that claim that other studios wont battle Aquaman because Aquaman is a foreshadowed flop.

Clearly Disney told Fox to do this. That’s the next conspiracy out there, am I right?!

The odds are really against the Aquaman movie. Which is a shame. I don't think Bumblebee with be that much of a competition because the transformers franchise in the US is pretty played out.

    1. ZaQueerdo Avatar
      ZaQueerdo

The same could be said of the DCEU. They're both franchises trying to make a comeback after several years of negative buzz capped off by underperforming movies.

      1. ken Avatar

The last Transformers opened to $45M that’s more than half of JL disappointing opening.

        1. ZaQueerdo Avatar
          ZaQueerdo

After two installments that grossed over a billion back to back. In its prime the Transformers movies were more popular than the DCEU.

          1. ken Avatar
            kenreplying to ZaQueerdo

More reasons to realize how far they have fallen and how the general audience just isn’t into it anymore The DCEU went from a peak of $870M to a low of $650M with a $750M and a $820 entry in between.

Transformers went from 2 back to back $1B like you said to a franchise low of $600M. That’s a much bigger drop and people do not care for Transformers like they do for DC a good transformers movies won’t bring in an audience that doesn’t really care anymore.

          2. ZaQueerdo Avatar
            ZaQueerdoreplying to ken

The decline of the Transformers films also took nearly a decade, while the DCEU combusted in half that time.

You’re both overestimating DC and underestimating Transformers.

A re-release of Deadpool 2 is actually less competition than Alita would have been.

Aquaman's only competition is Mary Poppins and DP2. Although i bet every boy would rater see Aquaman than Mary Poppins. DP2 could be trouble tho, especially since kids can see it now. I still have faith in Aquaman

How is this a bad thing? Dp2 was okay. I don't want to see the pg13 cut. Damn kids gotta watch the rated-R cut 😂
Aquaman is gonna do as well as wonder woman. Im sure of this.
We've seen spidey movies, transformers Who cares about Mary Jane Poptits?!
I think IF aquaman does bad, it would be because they made him soft in wans movie. Didn't feel too much of a bad ass in JL to me. Yet I can't judge on this first trailer yet..

What makes you certain about Aquaman doing as well as Wonder Woman? I don’t think it’ll be a bust, but I don’t see it doing WW numbers. A lot of that was about the “woman empowerment” movement. Aquaman won’t have that luxury.

James Wan! He's got a following. I love the horror movies myself. I'm curious to see what he does here.

Who the director will be the tipping point to make it as successful as WW? Really?

Maybe I’m in the minority of people who watches movies that interest him; the cast & crew are just a bonus.

Looking at his credits, looks as though I’ve seen a good chunk of his movies. Aside from FF7, everything is in the horror genre. I haven’t seen the Aquaman trailer. Does it resemble the horror genre to interest his following?

Even James Wan's biggest movie (Furious 7) didn't make as much as domestically as Wonder Woman.

LOL it's Aquaman that needs to worry, the rest of those films will do great. I hope Aquaman will be good, but really if you think people want to see that the others you need to stop.

Why is there a bumblebee movie?
Why is there a Mary Poppins return movie?

I don't like the sound of a pg 13 Deadpool at all... but regardless, back to the subject: yeah, WB should move Aquaman a couple of weeks away from all of that noise, at least

I hope WBDC I keeping aquaman in that slot cos they have data that shows the movie will be successful, even with that competition. However, I'm affraid that they are just been stubborn or they simply don't care, just like they did with JL.

This is all HYPE!! I mean anything that gets kids off their smart devices, out of the basement and into the theater is a good thing. I don't really see this as competing. I mean, if I was a kid, I would at least want to see the movie about a kid who grows up to be a superhero with underwater battles, shit blowing up, monsters...and a whole line of DC figures to buy afterwards. Then I would go see Deadpool. Actually I would illegal download Deadpool at home on my smart device, the R rated version ;-).

Aquaman's got more worries going up against Mary Friggin' Poppins than worrying about DP2 PG-13, fact is, DP2 has been out and virtually everybodies seen it, a different cut ain't gonna make me go and watch it at the cinema... maybe some kids that haven't seen it yet but it wont make that much...
