Rumor: 'Suicide Squad 2' to take place in the Middle East, could be rated R

on Rumor: 'Suicide Squad 2' to take place in the Middle East, could be rated R

Over the weekend, Suicide Squad 2 co-writer Todd Stashwick revealed that the script has been finished. He said the movie is a sequel to the first and will tell an exciting, deeper story about the characters. With the script done, plot details are starting to leak out.

According to scooper @DanielRPK (via SuperBroMovies), Suicide Squad 2 will take place primarily in the Middle East. This was to help set up an appearance from The Rock's Black Adam, which was reported by The Wrap late last year, but unfortunately it seems like his busy schedule will prevent him from being able to do the movie. Instead, an unknown DC character is rumored to be taking his place.

Suicide Squad 2 is also said to be a "grounded, black ops style film" that could be targeting an R rating. Director Gavin O’Connor is hoping that shift in tone will help differentiate the sequel from the first movie.

      Agreed. Ayer would have been better off sticking with what he knows and keeping it grounded in reality. Covert missions was the way to go.

    But how will people know it's a superhero film if they don't have to fight a bunch of CGI monsters to stop a glowing portal in the third act????

    This is how you introduce Black Adam. Their mission is in Kandhaq and they are to grab a mysterious coffin or infiltrate a tomb. Turns out to be Adam-Teth’s and it begins the resurrection of Black Adam. He doesn’t have to be the main villain, but is released due to the squad’s/actual main villain’s interference. Dovetails nicely after Shazam and they could even hint to it after the credits.

        They let him out of his prison; he's grateful. Or, killing them isn't worth his time. If he's going to think of himself as an antihero he's not just going to slay people for no good reason; that would be unfitting.

          Adam isn't a mindless killer anyway, if they pose no threat to him or Kahndaq then he would have no reason to kill or harm them.

        He wouldn’t be the main villain, they really should just tease his release. Like the squad triggered it and he comes out after credits.

        If they can't have him, then get Ras Al Ghul, you know played properly as he's meant to be? Gotham may be bat shit crazy, but Alexander Siddig is still the best Ras so far. I'd love to see him do it with good material.

          Ras Al Ghul would be a perfect set up to bring in another Batman cameo or Batman as the main villian in a 3rd SS film

        They just happen to wake him up by accident. It can even just be something that happens as a byproduct of them being in the area and messing things up. The End credits scene could literally take place half way through the movie, and cut to a shot of an underground tomb opened by a massive explosion that took place in the movie above.
        IDK.

    Well if the movie can't have Black Adam, if we're to pick another Middle East villain, let's go for Queen Bee, or Ra's al Ghul.

    I had the fortunate or (unfortunate) surprise to have imax tickets for the premier day of suicide squad I was really disappointed. Was first time to an imax and have not been since. I hope they recast everyone in this movie and that Jared Leto is just a distorted memory. Nothing against the guy himself but the whole gangster strip club boss emo "damaged tattoo" was just too much. Reminded me of the scene in Big Bang theory with Howard and rashesh trying to fit in a goth club

    They could do Rustam and the Jihad in the Middle East. It would be a cool call back to the Ostrander run, and Williams did a really fun story with him last year.

    The first one should have been like this.

    I don’t mind the first one as it happens it’s fairly easy watching and made a big impression with the general audience.

    i noticed that a lot of people are under the impression that Suicide Squad is supposed to be grounded when in reality they fight crazy over the top threats quite frequently actually. The whole idea is that its a team of under-qualified weirdos going on these insane "suicide" missions. However, Waller DOES typically throw in a few heavy hitters such as meta humans so they at least have a chance of succeeding.

      I think its more that the Squad face threats what aren't world ending plots like the first film, its typically out there stuff sure but it wouldn't be "the world ends" if they failed. I think the recent Animated film nailed what a SS film should be, it was out there and not grounded at all but it was something what didn't need the likes of Superman or Wonder Woman.

        The thing that got buried in the first film was that "save the world" WASN'T the SS's actual mission; they just took that on themselves after the bar scene when no one else was there to do it (since Superman was dead and none of the other metahumans were operational yet). The actual assignment was to extract the "VIP" from the Federal Building; the twist was that that VIP was actually Waller's sorry ass. The way the film was set up and/or edited, though, by the time we get to the federal building we've already largely forgotten that they're supposed to be rescuing someone (who we should be worrying about), so the reveal that their lives are on the line to pull Waller's fat out of the fire she herself created doesn't hit the way it should.

    Grounded, black ops, Middle East, exciting, deep - all sounding good!

    And even though I’ve initially expressed quite a lot of discomfort with the way Shazam is being introduced into this world, I think my happiness that the interconnected universe idea being planted throughout the movies is not being dropped based on this setting up for Black Adam outweighs any of that! So this is all sounding good to me.

    As for the R rating, though, as long as it’s not forced for the sake of it, that could be fine, but I am quite surprised they would go that route after all the darkness complaints from the past and after the first movie’s popularity (you’d think they’d want to maintain the larger audience they got the first time).

      They're saying the Black Adam stuff is likely not gonna happen.

            Ah, I see now. Well that’s a tad disappointing, but okay. Perhaps they will still do something to hint at it anyway, though, but just not include Black Adam. That could be cool.

    Sounds good to me and more like something SS should be, make it darker as well and keep the humor to characters like Harley and Boomerang only.

    The films tone should be very similar to the first ever Suicide Squad trailer they used at Comic Con.

        I still enjoyed the film and it proved to be a hit with general audiences but the potential based on that first trailer was huge.

    Obviously its set in Bialya, which is why Black Adam was going to make an appearance.
    The obvious solution is to have the villain as Queen Bee

    In my perfect world, the SS go on a covert mission to take down Queen Bee, succeed (but a whole bunch of S**t goes down along the way), the region ends up way worse than it was when Bee was in power, and a full blown war ends up breaking out.
    Then in Man of Steel 2 (or more likely, supergirl), they adapt Superman vs. The Elite, which takes place against the backdrop of the Bialya / Pokolistan war.
