Ben Affleck's script for 'The Batman' was "the best Batman script I've ever read", says storyboard artist

Jay Oliva has been a storyboard artist on most of the DCEU movies, and he was working on The Batman when Ben Affleck was still attached to direct, write, and star in it. Today on Twitter, Oliva commented on Affleck's Batman script, calling it the best one he's ever read.

"The original Affleck script was the best Batman script I’ve ever read," Oliva said. "Ben had a kick ass story and I believe that the audience and fans would have loved it."

Publicly, Affleck never seemed happy with his script, and that could be one of the reasons why he decided not to direct the movie. When Matt Reeves took over as director after Affleck dropped out, he decided to start over from scratch and write his own script.

Maybe one day Affleck will talk more about the Batman movie that he abandoned. For now, we have the Matt Reeves version to look forward to, which should start shooting by next summer.

So yeah it was nescesay. People didn't need to. Care about him cause no one cares about him. But needed to care about superman which they definitely did. They definitely did care about supermans death. Saying he barely Had any dialogue is also a lie. You really need to stop spreading lies. Saying he was unlikable throughout the movie is a weak claim.
      The arc started from the beginning of the film and ended when he died. He did not need 2 or 3 movies down the line. You. Think he does but he doesn't. We knew alot about this superman and we know plenty and we know plenty about batman. We didn't need to a history lesson about him or an origin story. The movie was the journey.

Snyder is one of the most interesting directors of commercial movies we have today, what he does can barely even qualify as mainstream entertainment but as personal works of art.
Amazing that he is working for hollywood and released stuff like Watchmen, Sucker Punch, or that they even let him made a non mainstream 3 hour complex, layered personal deconstruction of the two most well know superheroes in the world.

  WB gave the keys to the DCEU to Johns and Berg after BvS. Plus, Affleck's last movie bombed royally (Live by Night), so the studio was not that in to him anymore. J+B were calling the shots, and I'm convinced they simply had a different vision for the character and the universe as a whole... It's normal that Ben probably wanted to do it his way.

  I believe he was pushing one way, Johns/Berg were pushing the other way... They just couldn't reach a middle point... Johns got along great with Patty and James Wan, that's why those projects materialized... But they failed with Flash and Batman... So I think it was simply a matter of creative differences, not only with the scripts but also with the universe.

That's exactly it. Johns was involved with the script, like he was on WW1 and Aquaman, and now WW84... He got along with Patty and James Wan, so the projects materialized... With Batman, he must not have been on the same page with Affleck, no matter how good the script was lining up to be... Remember Johns and Berg had a new vision for the DCEU (they did the same with Flash, turned it into Flashpoint... and now they're gone, the project is back to being The Flash).

Quite simply put Geoff Johns is a hack when it comes to Batman, he writes him as a snivelling man child, he even admitted in the past to not understanding the appeal of the character. His film/tv scripts have been lacklustre since one great episode of Smallville, not to mention the rumours he and Terrio (Affleck's Oscar winning colleague) butted heads over rewrites of Justice League, I would not be surprised that the Oscar wining writier/director was unhappy with the crayon drawings of Johns.

The Batman (the film) was undone by Ben’s bat-vodka and bat-late-night-partying. The stressor of having to hit it out of the park with this film didn’t help. He and Snyder should gave demanded WB release the ULTIMATE cut of BvS and tell the fanboys to suck it. Like it or don’t. Batman films should be grim. Fuck.

As for Oliva, I like his work as a director, but he's not an author. He has NO writing credits at all, he never wrote a screenplay. And his best movies were literal adatation of major DC graphic novels/mini-series. So yes, I don't trust him so much on that front.

      As a director he "should" know whether a script is good or not, but the screenplay of BvS and JL show the opposite.
      He worked on DC characters for 5-6 years, and yes, he knows what fans want, but there's a big issue: fans don't always know what's good for those adaptations and characters.

      I'm saying that batman v superman The ultimate edition is good. Andbyhat shows that the screenplay is good. Jl is much less Jay and Snyder and more whedon and wb. So jl is not their vision or the original screenplay.

      the screenplay of BvS is nowhere near as good. It has its moments, indeed, but as a whole movie? It's a bit of a mess.
      Joss Whedon may have worked on the 30-40% of the movie, at best. So the rest is still Snyder's work. Everyone's pissed off with Whedon's scenes, but to me Snyder's scenes are bad as well.

      The theatrical. Edition is a mess boy the ultimate edition is definitely not a mess. And the screenplay for the ultimate edition is that good.
      What do you think are Snyders scenes? Cause the claim he did 30 to 40 % of the film. Have turned out to be false. It's evident that he reshot much more than 40 %, not to mention they cut out so much and added whedons stuff. So no it's not his movie.
      Uhhh no bvs has only one storyline with one subplot that converge. It couldn't be stretched into 3 or 4 movies. It's one storyline that worked

Considering the expectations that were set on Ben it makes perfect sense that Ben would be hesitant.
If you were making a script that was gonna be compared to TDK’s, I’m pretty sure that even you would want it to be perfect instead of “good”. Jay may have liked the script, but Affleck could’ve easily had thought to himself “Still not good enough”.

      Because he's nowhere near as involved with the DCEU as he would have you believe... the funny part is, he's actually admitted as much several times before, in the sense that he doesn't know anything more than we do.
      Again, the issue isn't that Jay thought Ben's script was good... the issue was that he said it was "THA GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!!!" which is so obviously bullshit (especially when TDK is still a movie that exists), so obviously false, so obviously exaggerated, so obviously licking Ben's/ Zack's ass, that one has to seriously question the validity of his """opinion""".
      Ben repeatedly said there was no script. Yet here Jay is praising something that actually didn't exist. Whatever, the dude is just insanely biased when it comes to this stuff and it shows.

      So why hasn’t Johns or Affleck corrected him? When someone had accused Johns of being pushing Affleck away from the script, Jay said that’s not true cause he in London with Ben and Geoff.
      If he’s irrelevant, then why would he be with them? If he’s lying, why hasn’t Johns, Affleck, or someone from DC tell him to stop? Johns has shown in the past that he’s willing to disprove false rumors.

      I never said that I believe that it was the “best script ever”. Again, it’s more likely that Jay did indeed just really liked the script. I never believed the story that Affleck wasn't satisfied with his own script. It's more likely that the studio probably meddled in his affairs and the direction he wanted to take after the back-to-back backlash of BvS TE, Suicide Squad and Live By Night that he threw his hands up in the air and just gave up.

It seems like he as garnered the attention and support of a bunch of fans with confirmation bias. (Telling them what they wanted to hear)

      I'm saying I'm questioning his statements as being slanted or bias. I'm saying that he is always stating things as people want to hear them.

I think his script was near perfect. We had an older version like warehouse scene. Aaaand wb doesn't like it. It's brutal and dark and nithing for the kids, make him a funny bag. And that's why affleck was out. The "I don't like the script" was only the official statememt.

    Where do those jokes are coming from? From MCU stans who like to discredit the new comer, its exact opposite who try to put a shadow on him by using the same kind of formula like a cheater. With of course the contribution of DCEU haters who like to spread negativity because they don't find Christopher Reeve in Henry Cavill, or Heath Ledger in Jared Leto.
    When you think about it, they forced themselves to make you believe that the Martha scene is "funny", but there is literally nothing funny about that scene.
