Superman and Lois Lane are coming back to TV for The CW's Arrowverse crossover event

We knew that Batwoman was making her debut this December for The CW's big Arrowverse crossover event, but now it's been announced that Superman and Lois Lane are coming back to TV for it as well.

Tyler Hoechlin will reprise his role as Superman, which he played on Supergirl in 2016 and 2017. Casting is currently underway for Lois Lane, who hasn't been in a live-action TV show since Smallville ended in 2011.

“We couldn’t be more excited to introduce Lois Lane to the Arrowverse. This dogged, determined and brave reporter will make for a strong partner to Superman and amazing addition to our universe of DC characters,” Supergirl executive producers Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner said Wednesday in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

The big Arrowverse crossover event kicks off on Sunday, December 9th with The Flash, followed by Arrow on December 10th, and will conclude on December 11th with Supergirl.

    I am usually pretty hard on Ben, as I don't think personal issues is an excuse for bad professional work... but this is just sad. Honestly, paparazzi are fucking trash. WHY is this even allowed? If he wasn't famous, he could sue these assholes for stalking and harassing. But because he's "famous", it's okay? Look, he obviously gets more than enough money to put these annoyances into perspective, but enough is enough. Have some fucking decency and stop bothering the guy.

Green Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Superman and Batwoman all in one big crossover in Gotham City. I don't care how much you hate the Arrowverse, this will be legendary.
Last years crossover was absolutely outstanding and everything Justice League never was. My personal favorite DC TV event last year by a long shot.

        I'm not disputing the historical element just the "Legendary" one. I can't even remember last years crossover episodes they were so forgettable. Nolans TDK is legendary, CW shows are not.

        When has most of the main cast of *four* shows done a crossover? The closest example I can think is some cop shows like Law&Order or CSI but they just had a couple of leads crossing over, usually for only two episodes.

        Also what's worth noting is the CW shows crossover all the time, a minor character can even cross over at times. Its pretty amazing on what they have achieved.

  I loved the stuff with Thawne (Tom Cavanagh is so amazing), but wish that it was all a little more deeply explored. I felt like it was all pretty cut-and-dry with not a lot to chew on considering the stakes and concepts they had to play with.
  Too bad they were limited to one episode per show to tell the story - but I get that they don't want to overwhelm the casual audience.

Slightly off topic, but it always confounds me when people clamor for a MoS 2. The first one was complete trash, and Cavil is so fucking wooden. He and Adams had the chemistry of siblings. How do you people not see that? Don't you want a new Superman franchise, one that's done right, and maybe with a better actor...?

  I think it has less to do with wanting a direct sequel to Man of Steel, and more with wanting another solo Superman film.
  I didn't like MoS at all, but I still want MoS 2... not as a "follow up", but because I want a new Superman film and most people, including me, like Henry as Superman.
  Yes, his chemistry with Adams sucks, but the way I see it, Lois doesn't actually need to be a huge part of the movie anyway. Frankly, I've always thought superhero love interests only got in the way of the story. Also, Cavill may not have been the best Superman thus far, but he has potential, and I think that's another reason as to why people want to give him another shot. He's surely a widely better actor than Gadot, yet I don't see you having any issue with her starring in WW84. That's because she has a good director behind her.
  I don't think people actually want another Snyder MoS movie. More like a Superman sequel that is consistent with previous events and Cavill as Superman, but with an entirely new direction and a skilled director.

    Well, Gal is definitely not the greatest actress out there, but she has one thing that Cavil will never have: charisma. She oozes charisma, and she's gorgeous and likable. She was the lone bright star in that dour clusterfuck named BvS. She was solid in her solo film and in JL, and you can't deny that she and Pine have super chemistry.
    I, for one, am a sucker for good love stories. I loved the romance in Raimi's Spider-Man, and also in The Amazing Spider-Man. I think, when done right, it can really lift a film, especially in this genre. I did NOT like the romance in MoS. Not only the actors never even came close to selling it, Zack didn't do them any favors with his incompetence and lazy writing. It felt half-assed, shoehorned, and coerced.
    While I understand the yearning for a Superman movie, I fervidly contest that Cavil shouldn't get a another go at the role. For many, he's burned as Superman. There's just too much baggage left from his "Trilogy". Besides, whenever I think of MoS 2, his wooden, mopey expression comes to mind. He literally did not put a smile on his face until the end of JL, which is ridiculous.
    To be honest, I don't think anyone is asking for a Superman movie right now. Not really. We had two different takes on the character in the last decade or so, both takes failed to draw either the critical or commercial success a studio expects from such a big name. The character needs to fade away for now. The timing is just not right to make another Superman film, especially not with Cavil.

      Gal doesn't have any more charisma than Henry. Oozes charisma you say? Give me a break. She's hot. Nothing more. She actually has a pretty flat personality, isn't funny or particularly smart, doesn't get your attention by virtue of her acting wisdom. Again, she's hot and as guys, we fall for it. But if she wasn't as beautiful as she was, no one would care about her. No one would say she "oozes charisma", which is a massive exaggeration anyway.
      Henry on the other hand, is actually pretty funny, or at least he can be judging from his interviews. He has a good sense of humor, he knows what he's talking about (see how he almost NEVER says "umm" during interviews, it's actually quite impressive), he seems a good dude to hang out with, etc. Honestly, the guy is more like Superman irl than he was in the Snyder films. And without a doubt, he has FAR more charisma than Gal. Again, take their looks away, Henry is still a funny, knowledgeable guy... Gal on the other hand, is just a woman who'd do no wrong, but wouldn't yearn any attention whatsoever by virtue of her personality.

      Highly debatable. Her role was to some extent sure. But it had nothing to do with her specific performance as the character. Heck, her performance was wooden as fuck. They could've gotten ANY other actress, and they would've gotten the same type of praise.

      I don't really disagree here, except that I personally couldn't care less about love stories in CBMs (heck, I want them gone), but we are talking about Henry as Superman here. Why should he have to go because Snyder fucked up and couldn't write a credible romance, never mind direct the actors competently? Henry is not to blame here. The script and directing is.

She's bubbly, funny, and genuinely a good person. She steals every scene she's in, and btw, this is an opinion shared by women, as well. It has nothing to do with the fact that she's hot. I've seen hot women who were unwatchable.
        I do think Cavil is ever so slightly the better actor, but that means nothing when you're without charisma. I have watched MoS again, and fairly recently, and the guy can't hold my attention. I get bored watching him. He makes like three expressions throughout the film. I guess you're seeing something I don't.

        Yeah, script is the reason. And there wasn't any leading per say, more like they slowly fell in love. He didn't court her or tried to put his charm on her. The movie made it clear that he found her beautiful and attractive, so maybe that's why you feel like that.
        I don't think a Superman movie is a good idea right now, but if they do decide to make another one, I sure hope it's with a new actor. And I don't want to see another origin. It will probably fail in the BO anyway. Superman was never a huge BO draw,

        Sure, I have said many times that she is a mediocre actress and has given wooden performances. That is not really "my opinion", that's just a fact. That said, it's not that I dislike her in the role (so long as she has Patty there to guide her performance). I just think any other actress could've pulled off the role much better than she has, and you'd be hardpressed to deny such a claim.
        And yeah, just look past the beauty... Actually PAY ATTENTION to what she says, how she acts, etc. Her comments are generic as fuck. There is absolutely nothing about her that makes her "special". That's not to say I think she's a bad person or anything. She just has a great smile, good looks, but that's it really. Seriously, just compare how she talks about WW to how Henry talks about Superman. Gal's comments are mundane, while Henry's are FAR more thought out.
        Gal suffers from what I like to call "she's popular so everyone likes her"-syndrome. Take Gal and put her into in ugly body, and no one will think she's funny. No one will think she's bubbly.
        A good personality? Sure, but that isn't really that relevant here.

        Frowning... What a surprise! So why does he do it? Because Snyder directs him that way. We've already seen that he can be joyful, charismatic and so on with other directors, so just because Snyder demanded he play a frowning emo Superman, doesn't mean Henry's the one the blame here.

MoS' opening was huge (and would've been bigger if it had better reviews) and was projected to gross somewhere around 800 million after its opening weekend numbers came out. The problem was, it had very poor legs and dropped too quickly. That's not because it's Superman, it's because Snyder is a bad director. If the movie had been any good, it would've made 800 MIL and probably even more. I would say that's enough to warrant sequels. Heck, even 670 million (which is what it actually made) is enough to warrant a sequel).
        And again, is Shazam a huge BO draw? Is Aquaman so? No, but they are still getting movies. So why not Superman?

    I want to see someone like Spielberg show us the magic of Superman using Snyder's world and characters from MoS.
    While I enjoyed Lois a lot so far, I do wish she had some more on-screen romantic development with Clark, so a sequel focusing on Superman in his own world would open the doors to lots of "connective tissue" stuff like that to make the bigger picture feel more meaningful.

      I think they rushed the relationship. There was no need for them to be a couple by the end of MoS. It would've served the character of Lois better had she been allowed to be a little more sassy for a little longer. Right now, Adams' Lois feels like "Clark's gf" instead of the "reporter Lois Lane", especially with the whole "marrying" thing, which is waaaaaay too soon. I mean, they've barely even been together for 18 months and he's already asking her to marry him?
      Spielberg would be a perfect choice... a shame, because we all know he'd never do it.

        They could have kept the sassy stuff as a sort of way she flirts with Clark as part of their natural chemistry (dating or not), and he takes it with humor and a quiet, humble, but amused sort of smirk in his body language.
        I just feel like Lois hasn't had a chance to be classically charming with the kinds of stories they've been telling post-MoS. BvS was traumatic and emotional for her, understandably, and that more serious stuff is an important part of her character too, but then we're right into JL and that film was so overstuffed and everyone was so under-explored that Lois is tucked into this little corner.
        I want Amy Adams to get to flex as an actress in a proper sequel. Dunno if people would complain about her getting too much spotlight (especially after so many people thought Superman took a bit of a back seat in BvS), but Lois is great, and I always love seeing her stir things up with Superman faithfully there to have her back. :)

        I actually love Amy as an actress. She's not only incredibly talented, but she's super nice irl and has a great attitude... I just think after all of these years, she's kind of outgrown this character. I'm not one the resort to the "age" argument, but I think she's getting too old. Lois should be sassy, energetic, sarcastic, fierce, etc. Things I would ascribe to young (and a tiny bit naive) women. Amy has a much more reasoned, mature and levelheaded attitude both on and off-screen. She just doesn't fit the character and she doesn't seem energetic enough (by nature) to actually pull off that classic Lois Lane power we know from the comics and TV-shows.
        Don't get me wrong, I LOVE calmer, kinder and more nurturing women. I find that incredibly attractive tbh, and Amy strikes me as one of those women. But that just isn't Lois Lane at all, I'm sorry.

      If you choose to have a love story in your film, then you can't just shoehorn it. A love story is something that needs to grow organically. You need to draw the audience in bit by bit. You need to pepper in intimate moments, so by the end of the movie the audience is impatient. Raimi did it well. He didn't even pair them up by the end of the first Spider-Man. Garfield and Stone had great chemistry and didn't end up together in the first film either.
      The love story in MoS was more of an afterthought. It was there for the sake of being there. BTW, in both Spider-Man incarnations the love story sort of took the main plotline because it can't really be done well as a side story. But if done right, it makes for a great hook.

    Everything was wrong in that film. The actor, the character arc, the writing... such a bad film. I didn't feel any connection to Superman, and I couldn't care less about Lois. And I definitely did not feel inspired in any way. It was really tragic.

        I can't speak for everyone but for the most part I liked MoS there were parts that bugged the hell out of me ( Clark letting his dad die, and of course the neck snapping) but it got a lot right and presented Supes and his lore in a cool way

        MoS was like any generic superhero origin movie, but better, BvS was barely a commercial movie, it was complex, layered, and asked the audience to use their brain, Snyder makes very personal movies with meanings you have to dig to find, he does not spoon feeds teh audience, that is what "scares" them

  Cavill can be good when he has different material. As much of a dumpster fire as Justice League was, Cavill's Superman did get better reactions. A better movie can finally give a Superman movie that's the unqualified hit WB's been wanting.

    Yeah, it wasn't exactly hard to top his dour, lifeless, soul-sucking appearances. Though I hated how he was handled in Justice League as well. How they made him ludicrously strong, to the point that the entire league felt consisted of a bunch of incompetent losers. It was a HUGE fail for anyone but his fans.

  Sorry Dean Cain was the least looking Clark/Superman. He was NOT Superman. His costume sucked too. This guy is so much better. His Clark is great.

  I like the actress playing Kara in all her appearances she's made on The Flash, but I only got three episodes in to Supergirl itself until I realized it just wasn't doing it for me.
  Might give it another shot one day.

    Yea I like her too. Saw her in Whiplash, even though her role was tiny, she was pretty good with what she had. But the show itself... man, just pure garbage from what I've seen. Terrible writing, cringy acting (at best), endless teen drama, blablabla. It's a show for young girls. Nothing wrong with that, but suffice it to say, no... Definitely not for me and definitely not giving it a shot ever.

      I tried to at least stick it through for my boy J'onn, but I couldn't quite hang before he got some scenes to shine in properly - if those even happen at all. I dunno. :( haha

      I didn't like the first season at all but the second one was pretty good for the most part, Season 3 has been hit or miss with a lot of misses.

Growing up on Superman the Animated Series I thought Lois Lane was either Asian or Latina. So I hope they go that route. Middle Eastern is cool as well.

        Although I agree that Seb is a bit too strong with his arguments, he's not entirely without a point. You do come across as someone who is more interested in special treatment for minorities. I don't feel gays are under-represented in cinema and TV. It's the opposite in fact. For crying out loud, Disney made Gaston gay in The Beauty and The Beast. Other minorities, such as Blacks and Asians, are increasingly getting more exposure, as well.
        To have an Arab Batman or a gay Superman will antagonize much of their core fans, not necessarily because they're Arab or gay, but rather because that's not their origins. They were written white and straight. You will be robbing them of core attributes that made people connect with them in the first place.

        If you're referring to me accusing him of racism, I would say you're right. I don't actually believe he's inherently racist (though his wishes of more diversity and special treatment for poc definitely are bigoted, even if he himself isn't). The reason I did that is because I'm playing the same game he is. Whenever people disagree, he accuses them of hate and bigotry, even if their reply wasn't hateful or bigoted. It's the old "You disagree? YOU'RE RACIST!"-argument. One I cannot fucking stand... so I treat him the same way, and just like I predicted, this guy cannot stand it. He was evidently offended that someone dared to call him out and call him a racist, which is what he accuses others of being based on nothing. It's just a way for me to prove his hypocrisy, even though he may not ever realize it.
        Also, fyi, blacks are already represented as much as they "need" to be. With that I mean, they make up just as much of Hollywood, as their demographic in the US. So it's not a problem. Same with Asians. Only people who are "underrepresented" are Latinos... and that's a tricky one, because more often than not, Latinos are considered "white" depending on the source.

    Diversity should not come at the cost of established material. There is nothing wrong with having an 'of colour' romance. However, to take established fiction and disrespect it by changing core aspects is political pandering.
    This is the problem with Ghostbusters. Why make the Ghostbusters all women? Why not create a new team with a different name and have them be their own group, not in the shadow of the original classic?
    Diversity is fine.
    Sacrificing/morphing previously established characters/material for 'points' is not.
    In the same way an Asian character should not be portrayed by a white actor (see Ed Skrein pulling out of Hellboy), a white character should not be portrayed by an Asian actor. That isn't racism. That's simply adhering to source material.

The big question is whether Batman will appear in any way, like a shadow at the top of a building out of focus. He has never mentioned on any of these shows (Wayne has), but it is hard to imagine they will introduce Batwoman without finally making clear that he exists, and what he has been up to.

        That's the thing about the US: voting is a right, which means you don't "have to" vote. In my country, voting isn't a right, it's a civil duty. Everyone has to vote. Luckily we have more than 2 parties so it's more fair and you're never forced into a position where both options (Hillary and Trump) seem like utter shit.
