'Gotham' set photo suggests The Mutants from 'The Dark Knight Returns' are coming to Season 5

Gotham is currently filming its fifth and final season, and a new set photo released on Monday seems to suggest that The Mutants will be making their debut.

The Mutants are a dangerous street gang that were created by Frank Miller and made their first appearance in "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns". In the set photo below, courtesy of John Boy's Instagram Story, we have what appears to be the Mutant Leader, complete with his goggles and spikes on his head.

We'll have to wait for an official announcement to see if The Mutants are indeed coming to Gotham. But based on this new set photo, I think it's a very likely bet.

Being the final season, This is the perfect time for the show-makers to end everything with a bang and with maximum creative freedom. The last scene of Gotham could be somewhat reminiscent of Smallville Superman ending while here, Bruce decides to finally become B̶a̶t̶b̶o̶y̶. https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

    I am convinced that we'll essentially see Year One set against the backdrop of No Man's Land this season. That giant window in the Wayne Manor study has been waiting for a bat to fly through it since the pilot, and I think it all ends with Bruce on a rooftop in the Batsuit (much like Smallville ended with Clark on the rooftop tearing open his shirt to reveal... a blue T-shirt with the \S/ CGI's onto it. :-/

        Different actor. Bruce Wayne technically doesn't even become batman until he's 25 years old in the comics.

Chris, you said you don't have time to read comics, but if you have time to watch this crap I'd really suggest you take 10 minutes a week to read an issue. Tom King's current run is far superior to this nonsense in every way.

  And I know of other people who've been reading comics for years (say, Jamie on Holy Batcast) and think Tom King's run is a giant stinking pile of dung.

    The opinion that King's run is dung is a minority one, just as is the opinion that this TV show is good.

      I am not here "just to be contrarian," I'm here because I have my own opinions. At this stage in my life, those opinions are driven by two factors: I no longer care at all about comics canon, because no one who produces the books really does, either, and I am more interested in new and different takes on the characters than I am in seeing the "traditional" versions rehashed in different media.
      In short, I think, I no longer care all that much about "DC Batman..." what I want to see is "Vertigo Batman."

        I guess for me comics Batman IS Batman and we are still yet to see a faithful live action adaptation bar the 60s version, so I would still hold out for that.
        Don't mind other interpretations, but often they ignore what I feel is core to the character, or are rather silly in premise like I think Gotham is.

        Fair enough as well. So far as why I don't make an account, Chris asked me that a month or so ago, and my answer is: because I already have Google and Facebook stalking me all over the Internet, and I don't need Disqus doing the same. :)

      Hard to say. I've seen plenty of disdain for King's batman. Issue 50 certainly pissed off A LOT of people. Can't say I'm the biggest fan personally. Occasionally he will do a cool little thing here or there. Like his Riddler or the occasional little one off issue with a neat little dark detective story. But other than that his stuff really hasn't grabbed me.

        At least the current arc with him being on the jury I think was good. I loved the stuff leading up to the wedding also.

      I liked the Jury arc until the last issue what was bullshit.
      Honesty so far no Batman comic us good right now, hopefully that will change once Tomasi takes over Detective Comics.

I don’t understand you guys who complain about chris posting Gotham stuff. It’s literally the only show right now connected to Batman...why in the hell wouldn’t he post. On top of that I don’t understand why this show is so hated. It’s excellent IMO one of the best shows on tv. You people can’t take this elseworld take but accept all the stuff Nolan did, which was basically an elseworld take. Just enjoy Batman people!

  Super weird to post this to the front page and not reviews of Batman comics lol. Almost no one cares about this crap. So, it's not surprising it gets hateful comments.
  As to why it's hated? It's because it's garbage that is just cashing in on the brand. How the fuck does it make sense to introduce adult versions of Batman's villains, most of whom he was responsible for creating or who came to Gotham because of him?
  Sure, it's a different take, I get it, but I've seen enough clips of 'Jerome' and Riddler and Catwoman to be aware it's hot garbage.
  I mean, I feel like the only people who like and watch this just blindly watch and like anything attached to Batman.

    I guarantee you that more people watch Gotham in a week than buy Batman comics in a year. I have nothing against the comics at all (I still have a pull list at my friendly neighborhood store), but the monthly publishing business has shrunk so dramatically that I'd be willing to bet that the main economic reason for continuing it is to keep the copyrights alive for characters they aren't using for other purposes.

        Niche nerd fansites can't always survive on niche nerds alone; sometimes they need traffic driven thru google analytics etc to the mass public watching Gotham, to stay alive and put out niche nerd articles... I can't speak for the site's actual traffic, just spitballing here :)

        Sure, but then why not promote more articles to the front page, not less.
        Most of the comic articles hidden away get more comments than the average Gotham article.

    It's super weird because when you look at the navbars at the top, every other category of news story makes it to the front page, even games for which there is rarely news. It's only comics that are denied this, and it's not like he doesn't already have the content. It would only help the website. It's just...weird to me to limit attracting more people, views and thus making more money when it would be effortless to do so.

    I do. Because they've made great many decisions that robbed the characters of their uniqueness. And what's worse is that it gives some producers the wrong impression that this is how it should be done. Hence, we are getting the mothafukin Batwoman on CW without Batman as her inspiration.

This is introducing new characters to an already cluttered landscape.
I would have preferred with a short season a long Joker story arc.

But the mutants are supposed to be young when Batman is old... That's sorta what makes them interesting. The show should have stuck to the crime families and penguin.

As someone who really isn't into Gotham (mainly because of the awful Batman and Bruce Wayne actor)
What is the context and reasons for the Mutants to show up? Even for me it seems extremely out of place
